Telangana agri varsity to distribute quality seeds to farmers
Hyderabad: Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, in collaboration with the department of agriculture, is set to launch an innovative programme, 'Distribution of Quality Seeds from the Agricultural University to Every Village', coinciding with the State Formation Day.
As part of the Formation Day celebrations in various districts, ministers, public representatives, and officials from the department of agriculture and the agricultural university would ceremonially distribute quality seed kits for five major crops (rice, pigeon pea, green gram, black gram, and sorghum) to selected progressive farmers. The remaining selected farmers would receive the seed kits on June 3 at their respective village farmer forums under the supervision of local authorities, along with nodal officers from the agricultural university.
Approximately 40,000 progressive farmers across 11,000 villages would receive quality seed kits under the initiative.
Officials said that state ranks first in the country with a seed replacement rate of 92%. With the rising demand, numerous seed companies have emerged, selling seeds at high prices.
With the available resources, the university has prepared around 10,250 quintals of seeds, ready for distribution to farmers.

If the farmers cultivate these quality seeds and share them with others, seed self-sufficiency could be achieved in the next two to three years, reducing the high costs associated with seeds.
Last rabi (yasangi) season, under the direct supervision of university scientists, foundation seeds were produced at various research stations, cleaned, and packaged into 6 or 10-kg packets, ready for distribution to approximately 40,000 farmers. The farmers receiving these kits were encouraged to follow proper management practices and supply the resulting seeds from this kharif (vanakalam) season's yield to fellow farmers in their villages.

Hyderabad: On the occasion of the 12th State Formation Day, Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU) has launched the 'Quality Seeds to Every Village' programme across the state. The university planned to distribute quality seeds to about 40,000 progressive farmers in approximately 11,000 villages, through the 'Quality Seeds to Every Village' programme. On the occasion of State Formation Day, around 300 farmers received seeds in various districts. The remaining selected farmers will receive seed kits on June 3 through local Rythu Vedika platforms in the presence of public representatives, agricultural extension officers, agricultural officers, and university officials.

CPET merit list for PG admissions out
Bhubaneswar: The higher education department on Monday published a state-wide merit list for Common Postgraduate Entrance Test (CPET-2025) conducted by the State Selection Board (SSB). The merit list is required for admission to PG courses offered by state public universities and degree colleges. According to the SSB, 62,321 candidates applied for CPET-2025. As many as 56,976 candidates appeared for the test, and all of them were selected to participate in the admission process. The state has 30,802 seats offered by 116 higher educational institutes. Official sources said the results were published on the SAMS (Student Academic Management System) PG portal at 4 pm on Monday. Applicants can check the SAMS portal to view their subject-wise and social category-wise ranks, according to an official statement from the department. The next stage of admission process will start on Tuesday. Eligible applicants will be able to exercise their choice-filling options from June 3 to 8. Further, the provisional allotment of seats for the first round selection process shall be published at 4 pm on June 13. Students can report to allotted institutions for admission between June 16 and June 18," said the official statement. Provisional allotment of seats for the second round of selection will be published on June 23 (4 pm). Admission for eligible students the second round will be conducted from June 24 to 26. The third or final round allotment list will be published on July 3. Admission for eligible students will be held between July 4 and 8. After the third round, a list of waitlisted candidates will be published on July 22. They will take admission between July 23 and 25. Classes for first-year PG students will commence on July 10, official sources said.

Chennai: Due to the tough JEE (Advanced) question paper this year, there was just one student from Tamil Nadu featured among the top 100 JEE rankers. The topper, Divyant Jayakumar from Chettinad Vidhyashram, got an All India Rank of 80 with 285 out of 360 marks in the entrance exam for prestigious IITs. Last year, three students from the state got within the top 100 ranks, and the topper secured the 42nd rank. IIT Kanpur, which conducted the JEE (Advanced) exam, declared the results on Monday. Of the 1,80,422 candidates who appeared for the exam, 54,378 qualified, and of them, 9,404 were girls. Tamil Nadu topper Divyant Jayakumar is planning to join computer science engineering at IIT Bombay or IIT Madras. "I was expecting a score above 280 marks. I am happy to get within the top 100 ranks. JEE (Advanced) paper two was one of the toughest papers in recent years," he said. He started the JEE preparation from Class IX onwards. He said starting the preparations very early helped him. Besides academics, he likes to listen to music and play football. Other students, Shreyas Ramakrishnan and Muhammed Safwan R, got the AIR 154 and 314 ranks, respectively. The number of students securing top 100 ranks also came down from three last year to one this year.
