New Food Court Opens At India Gate, Offering A Taste Of More Than 10 Indian States

The India Gate has always been a popular hangout spot for Delhiites and tourists visiting the city. The monument commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during World War I. Just a glimpse of the memorial is enough to fill the heart with national pride. The India Gate was once a beloved picnic destination, with families carrying boxes and casseroles of food to enjoy on its wide lawns. However, visitors are now prohibited from bringing bags, luggage, food, and pets into the monument area, ending the picnic culture around the site. Now, a new foodie initiative aims to attract more visitors. A food court has recently opened at the India Gate. Just take the underpass, and you will reach the newly opened spacious and clean food court. There are two sections - North and South - serving popular Indian dishes from various states, all at affordable prices. The food court is an open space with small tables shaded by umbrellas, surrounded by multiple stalls offering cuisines from different regions of the country. Some of these outlets include a Hyderabadi cuisine stall by Telangana Tourism, Cafe Kudumbashree by the Government of Kerala, Roots from the hills of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam Food Counter, Rajasthani Food Counter, Sikkim Food Court, Aaharika serving Bihari cuisine, Meghalaya Collectives Cafe, Tamil Nadu Food Court, and MTDC Maharashtra Food Stall. The new food court is a great place to grab a quick bite after a walk around the India Gate, especially during the pleasant monsoon weather.

Amid glitz and glam, pageant spawns slew of chances for all

Hyderabad: Beyond glamour and headlines, Miss World 2025 is delivering a tangible cultural and economic boost across Telangana. From artisans in Pochampally to folk performers at Gachibowli, the event has created hundreds of opportunities for local communities. Hotels, transport providers, event technicians, designers, and handloom workers have become part of a global showcase turning Telangana's grassroots talent into international ambassadors. This is not just a beauty pageant; it is a tribute to Telangana's spirit where tradition meets transformation. The synergy between pageantry and purpose has created an experience that is as meaningful for locals as it is for global delegates. India's proud legacy with Miss World began in 1966 when Dr Reita Faria became the first Indian and first Asian to win the crown. Since then, India has won the Miss World title six times, tying with Venezuela for the most crowns in the pageant's history. India's winners include Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999), Priyanka Chopra (2000), Manushi Chhillar (2017). This year, Nandini Gupta of Rajasthan represents India, carrying the hopes of a billion as she competes on home soil. Other crown-holding nations include the United Kingdom with five wins, and South Africa and the United States, each with three. These rankings reflect not only beauty standards but evolving representations of purpose, intellect, and compassion. From May 20–24, the spotlight shifts to talent rounds, fashion showcases, and arts workshops at Shilparamam. On May 26, the Beauty with a Purpose Gala at HITEX will feature powerful social impact projects from each contestant, alongside cultural performances and a Telangana Food Festival. The grand culmination will be on May 31 at HITEX, with a glittering red carpet event at 5:30 pm, followed by the coronation gala from 10 pm to 1 am. The celebrations close on June 2 with a high tea at Raj Bhavan hosted by the Governor and Chief Minister, coinciding with Telangana Formation Day a proud reminder of the State's dynamic journey. The Telangana government has meticulously planned each element of the festival from logistics, security, and transport to cultural showcases, accommodation, and hospitality. The coordination reflects the State's capability to host mega international events with world-class precision. To democratise access, Telangana Tourism has opened free registration for the public via its website, where selected participants can attend events through an interactive quiz system ensuring that the global celebration includes local pride, says M Kiranmayee, a senior official from the I&PR Department. As the crown travels through temples, looms, and centuries-old trees, Miss World 2025 is no longer just a beauty contest; it is Telangana's way of telling the world our traditions walk with grace, our hospitality welcomes with pride, and our women rise with purpose.

Beauty and the buzz: over 7,000 make a play for Miss World 2025 event passes

Telangana Tourism's move to distribute complimentary entry passes for the general public to attend events of the ongoing Miss World 2025 has drawn an overwhelming response, with over 7,000 registrations recorded within just three days of the announcement. The announcement for the distribution of complimentary passes was made by Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary for Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture on May 6. He stated that the passes would be issued through an official online selection process hosted on the Telangana Tourism website. To be considered for the passes, interested participants had to engage in an interactive quiz based on Telangana's culture and heritage. According to Tourism officials, applicants were required to correctly answer five questions, such as identifying the State song and selecting the UNESCO heritage site located in Telangana. The response was swift and enthusiastic. However, as the number of applications surged past 7,000, the department paused the selection process. Now, those attempting to register are redirected to a Google form that displays a message acknowledging the influx. 'We are overwhelmed with your responses. We have received over 7,000 requests. Eligible applicants will be accommodated for the first few public events. We will open the registration window once again after 10 days,' the message reads. The notice, posted two days ago, suggests the next round of registrations may open next week. Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Ranjan highlighted the significance of public participation in the global event. 'The initiative offers a unique opportunity for citizens to attend and experience a global celebration of beauty, talent and cultural diversity. We invite all to register and be part of this prestigious occasion,' he said. Miss World 2025 is being hosted across multiple venues in Telangana, culminating in the grand finale on May 31 at the Hitex Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad.
