The Brief A 66-year-old man is in critical condition after police say a fight turned into a shooting in Franklinville Monday. A 74-year-old man is in police custody. This is an ongoing investigation. PHILADELPHIA - An investigation is underway after police say a fight turned into a shooting that left a 66-year-old man in critical condition. What we know At around 7:30 p.m. Monday, Philly police and Temple University police responded to the 3300 block of North Park Avenue for a call of two people fighting. Police say the person who called in the incident also said they were going inside to "get some guns." Upon arrival, one police officer heard a gunshot and rushed to the area where he discovered a 66-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound to the head. The 66-year-old was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he was placed in critical condition. The 74-year-old man, who police believe to be the shooter, was taken into custody. This is an ongoing investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit. PHILADELPHIA - A fatal shooting occurred in Philly's Fairhill neighborhood Monday afternoon. What we know At around 3:37 p.m., police say a man was shot on the 2700 block of North Orkney Street. The victim was transported to Temple University Hospital by medics, where he was pronounced dead at 4:08 p.m. No arrests have been made. The investigation is being actively handled by the Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit. Man shot, killed by Philadelphia officers during scuffle in North Philly, police say
A man was shot and killed by Philadelphia police in North Philly on Wednesday night following a scuffle with officers, police said. Philadelphia Police Department First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford said the shooting happened just after 6:30 p.m. in the area of Mutter and West Somerset streets. Stanford said that police approached a man to conduct an investigation, but then a scuffle ensued. During the scuffle, Stanford said the man took a handgun out of his bag, and the weapon discharged. He said that two officers returned fire at the man, striking him in the torso. Stanford said it's unclear if the man fired his gun or the weapon accidentally discharged amid the scuffle. Stanford declined to say how many shots were fired by officers during the shooting, but said that will be a part of their investigation. The man was taken to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead, according to Stanford. It's unclear why the man involved in the scuffle was approached by officers, Stanford said. Both officers who fired their weapons were wearing body cameras, Stanford said. They will each be placed on administrative duty after the shooting, per Philly Police Department policy. The officers weren't injured during the incident, according to Stanford.

A man was shot and killed in North Philadelphia on Tuesday night, police said. The shooting happened on the 3400 block of Hope Street at around 8 p.m., according to police. Police said the man was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:14 p.m. So far, no arrests have been made. The shooting is under investigation.

Philadelphia rapper LGP Qua was murdered on Sunday (May 11) after being gunned down on Mother's Day in what has been described as a botched armed robbery. According to reports, Qua, born Qidere Johnson, was shot in the chest shortly before 4:40 p.m. while in Philly's Juniata Park neighborhood. Johnson was transported via private vehicle to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after. Johnson was 30 years old at the time of his death. No suspects have been arrested in connection to Johnson's murder at this time. A $20,000 reward is being offered by Philadelphia police for information leading to an arrest and conviction. After news of Johnson's death spread, a social media account created by his family made a post confirming the rapper's death while paying tribute to his life and legacy, both as a rapper and a beacon of positivity in Philly's Hip-Hop community. 'Rest In Peace to Qidere 'LGP Qua' Johnson. A kid with a dream that turned to a man with a vision,' the post, which included a photo of Johnson along with clips of him rapping, read. 'He had dreams of bettering his community using rap to influence the mind sets of the youth. So young, so much talent. Qidere was known to his friends and family as someone who would ride til the wheels would fall off.' The post also acknowledged Johnson not allowing his own 'struggles' as an inner-city youth to negatively impact his outlook on life or the message he wanted to spread in his hometown and beyond. 'Qidere deserved to grow old,' the post continued. 'In neighborhoods and systems that deemed us less Qidere wanted the youth in Philadelphia to know it was more for them to achieve. Qidere felt like if he could beat the odds any of these kids could.' There has been speculation online that Johnson was targeted for his expensive jewelry, which he could often be seen wearing in photos and video clips in recent years. However, no possible motives have been officially released or confirmed by police According to CBS, Qua began rapping after serving an 18-month stint in prison, purportedly on a weapons charge, first making waves in 2017 after his song voicing support for Meek Mill amid the Philly rap star's legal troubles went viral. This buzz would lead to a collaboration with Black Eyed Peas member titled 'Insomniac' the following year. LGP Qua's last officially released single, 'Earned' featuring DJ Drama and Tory Lanez, was released in 2023 through French Montana's Coke Boys Records.
