Football club selling Oasis-inspired jerseys to help family devastated by cancer

A football club has unveiled a unique one-off fundraiser jersey with a design twist inspired by the iconic Bohemian FC x Oasis collaboration. Templeogue United's Over-35s team is selling jerseys to raise urgent funds for the O'Neill family, lifelong Templeogue United members who have dedicated over 30 years of service, passion, and heart to the club. The campaign's message is simple: "'Some might say' it's just a jersey, but for Templeogue, it's about being Together For The O'Neills." Tragedy has struck the family not once, but twice. 20 years ago, they lost their 15-year-old son Tiernan to cancer. Now, heartbreakingly, their 17-year-old son Ultan has also been diagnosed with the disease. Barry McCarthy, team member and campaign organiser, said: "With the nation gripped by Oasis fever, in particular by men and women of my vintage, we designed a jersey that would be the perfect accessory for fans who also want to give something to an amazing cause. "The O'Neills have given so much to this club for decades, and now it's our turn to give something back." The specially designed jersey is both a tribute to the O'Neills' strength and a rallying cry for support from the Templeogue community. Every cent raised will go directly to the family to help ease financial and emotional burdens during Ultan's battle. While the design is a nod to Bohs' famous Oasis collaboration, it carries its own twist by spelling out OVER35S in a manner that mimics the Manchester band's iconic logo. In addition to the jersey fundraiser, the club will host a star-studded concert at The National Basketball Arena on August 21 featuring The High Kings, Abbaesque, Keith Barry, Luke Thomas, Steptacular Stage School, and WTA Dance Studio. League of Ireland legend backs Oasis inspired fundraiser for cancer-hit family

League of Ireland legend Dane Massey has given his backing to a fundraiser that has been inspired by the collaboration between Bohemians and rock legends Oasis. Junior football giants Templeogue United have released a jersey with 'over35s' in the iconic Oasis font where the sponsor's logo would be. The shirt retails at €35, with all proceeds going to the O'Neill family, who have been 'at the heart' of Templeogue United 'for over 30 years'. According to the club website: 'The O'Neills have been lifelong supporters, players, and volunteers at Templeogue United. But tragedy has touched their lives not once, but twice. 'Their son Tiernan tragically passed away from cancer at the age of 15. And now, heartbreakingly, their 17-year-old son Ultan is facing his own battle with cancer. 'This jersey is more than fabric – it's a tribute to the O'Neill family's resilience, and a way for our community to stand firmly beside them during this unimaginable time.' Massey, a five-time Premier Division winner with Dundalk, now lines out for Templeogue's Over-35s. A key figure in Stephen Kenny's all-conquering Lilywhites outfit, he also collected three FAI Cups, and was named in the PFA Ireland Team of the Year in 2015. Massey, now 37, played in Dundalk's historic Europa League group stage campaign, while injury meant he missed their return to the group stages in 2020. His eight-year spell at Oriel Park came to an end when he joined Louth rivals Drogheda United ahead of the 2021 season, while he finished his League of Ireland career at his first senior club Bray Wanderers. According to the Templeogue website, the shirt is 'inspired by the iconic Bohemian FC x Oasis collaboration. 'All proceeds from the jersey sales go directly to the O'Neills. Whether it's to ease financial pressure or simply show them they're not alone, every contribution helps. 'The jersey may echo a famous design, but this one is uniquely ours. It's a grassroots fundraiser, built on friendship, loyalty, and the belief that football clubs should always look after their own.' You can buy the shirt here.
