Repeated airspace incursion over Trump's Bedminster golf club: Fighter jets intercept civilian aircraft; seven violations during weekend

Seven violations of Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR) were reported over the weekend near Bedminster, New Jersey, where US President Donald Trump was reportedly staying at Trump National Golf Club. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'Pilots: There have been seven TFR violations near Bedminster, NJ this weekend. Avoid trouble - make sure to check NOTAMs before you fly to stay clear and compliant,' said First Air Force through a post on X. Fighter jets were scrambled on Sunday to intercept a civilian aircraft that breached restricted airspace overTrump's Bedminster retreat, reports Fox News. The aircraft entered the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) zone around 12.50 pm ET, as per the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD). 'The civilian aircraft violated the TFR at approximately 12.50 pm Eastern Daylight Time. The civilian aircraft was safely escorted out of the area by NORAD aircraft,' reported NORAD. NORAD said its aircraft used flares to signal a civilian plane that had entered the restricted airspace, before escorting it out of the area. The incident marked the second airspace violation of the day, with another unauthorized aircraft also entering the TFR zone earlier. The flares "are employed with the highest regard for the safety of the intercepted aircraft and people on the ground,' added NORAD. "General aviation pilots are reminded to verify all Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs) and Fly Informed before every flight; in the instance of the Bedminster, New Jersey region, specifically FAA NOTAMs 9839, 9840, 9841 and 9842," NORAD said, as reported by Fox News. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now NORAD uses a multi-layered defense system that includes radars, satellites, and fighter jets to detect and respond to potential threats, as per DVIDS. The identification and interception of the civilian aircraft highlights how NORAD carries out its aerospace warning and control responsibilities for both the United States and Canada. In July, too, a NORAD fighter jet intercepted a civilian aircraft that entered the restricted airspace over Bedminster, New Jersey, where Trump was spending the 4th of July weekend.

Temporary Flight Restrictions issued in Hill Country area as search for flood victims continues

AUSTIN (KXAN) — More Temporary Flight Restrictions have been issued for parts of Central Texas as the search continues for those who remain missing after devastating floods swept across the state. What to know about Temporary Flight Restrictions after drone collides with helicopter responding to Texas floods The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Thursday issued two new Temporary Flight Restrictions, or TFRs, in the Hill Country. Temporary Flight Restrictions are issued by the Federal Aviation Administration and restrict aircraft (including drones) from operating without permission in a certain area for a limited time, according to the FAA website. They are communicated through Notices to Airmen, or NOTAMs. Pilots must always check NOTAMs prior to their flights, per the FAA. A press release from the FAA said the TFRs were issued because 'the search efforts in Kerr County and beyond create an ongoing operation with a high volume of aircraft operating in a tight corridor,' and 'adherence to the temporary flight restrictions rules must be followed for the safety of all aircraft and ground personnel within the area.' Reasons for issuing a TFR, according to the FAA, include: Natural disasters such as wildfires and hurricanes Certain major sporting events Emergency or national security situations There are six different TFR types: Space Operations, Air Shows/Sports, Security, Hazards, VIP, and Special. One of the two TFRs issued Thursday is categorized as security, and the other is VIP, which are typically issued to protect travel of the President, Vice President, or other high-ranking government officials, according to the National Business Aviation Association. President Donald Trump is expected to visit Kerrville on Friday, along with several Texas political leaders. Trump, Texas leaders to visit Kerrville on Friday The area and time frame of TFRs are subject to change, but active TFRs are published on the FAA's TFR website and updated in real time. TFRs are also displayed in FAA resources for drone pilots: Low Altitude Authorization And Notification Capability (LAANC) – applications provided by FAA-approved companies to deliver airspace authorizations on behalf of the FAA B4UFLY App – an app designed for recreational drone flyers Only pilots cleared through the Air Operations Center (AOC) may operate within the TFR. After pilots receive clearance, their activity will be tracked. Those with a legitimate need to operate within the TFR can contact the Air Operations Center – UAS Command at (936) 577-2370. Lakeland pilot among 24 aircraft intercepted near President Trump's Mar-a-Lago property

The Brief NORAD says they have intercepted 24 aircraft in the restricted airspace near President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago property while he was president. A Lakeland pilot was among them and was not harmed in the interception. Each one costs $25,000 an hour and involves two F-16 fighter jets each. LAKELAND, Fla. - A Polk County pilot was among the 24 violators surrounding Mar-a-Lago's restricted airspace while President Donald Trump was president. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) reports that with every violation, two F-16 fighter jets, each costing $25,000 an hour, are deployed to interfere with the aircraft. Last weekend, NORAD reported that fighter jets had to be deployed twice to interfere with civilian aircraft entering the restricted airspace, which spans a radius of 30 nautical miles. Dig deeper NORAD reported that around 1 p.m., a Cessna Skyhawk that left Lakeland Linder Airport entered the restricted airspace. Fighter jets deployed flares to get the pilot's attention. Another pilot was escorted out of the area around 9 a.m. one day prior. What they're saying Gregory Guillot, Commander of NORAD, said in a statement: "NORAD and the FAA work closely together to keep skies over America safe, with close attention paid to area with Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR). Adherence to TFR procedures is essential to ensure flight safety, national security, and the security of the President," he added, "The procedures are not optional, and the excessive number of recent TFR (Temporary Flight Restriction) violations indicates many civil aviators are not reading Notice to Airmen, or NOTAMs, before each flight as required by the FAA, and has resulted in multiple responses by NORAD fighter aircraft to guide offending aircraft out of the TFR." Fighter jets again intercept aircraft near Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate

(NewsNation) — U.S. fighter jets were scrambled twice over the weekend to intercept civilian aircraft in the skies over Palm Beach, Fla., where President Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago estate. The North American Aerospace Defense Command said the most recent incident occurred around 1 p.m. Florida time on Sunday when NORAD aircraft escorted a civilian aircraft out of the area after setting off flares to get the pilot's attention. The airspace over Trump's property has a permanent flight restriction that expands to a radius of 30 nautical miles when the president is in residence. Robotic dogs are patrolling Mar-a-Lago to help protect Trump, Secret Service confirms NORAD said its aircraft have responded to more than 20 'tracks of interest' since Trump took office on Jan. 20. The agency reported three interceptions just last week. The military command reminded pilots to stay current on the 'Notice to Airmen,' or NOTAMs, issued by the federal government, which include Temporary Flight Restrictions, or TFRs. 'The excessive number of recent TFR violations indicates many civilian aviators are not reading' the notices, Air Force Gen. Gregory Guillot, Commander, NORAD and U.S. Northern Command, said in a news release. Sunday's incident took place as Trump finished a round of golf at his West Palm Beach golf course. Jets also conducted an intercept on Saturday morning shortly after Trump arrived at the course from his private Mar-a-Lago club and residence. Trump's schedule was not affected over the weekend, officials said. The Associated Press contributed to this report. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
