SGI Q1 Earnings Call: Revenue Miss, Guidance Cut, and Tariff Mitigation Plans Detailed

Bedding manufacturer Somnigroup (NYSE:SGI) missed Wall Street's revenue expectations in Q1 CY2025, but sales rose 34.9% year on year to $1.6 billion. Its non-GAAP EPS of $0.49 per share was 5.1% above analysts' consensus estimates. Is now the time to buy SGI? Find out in our full research report (it's free). Revenue: $1.6 billion (34.9% year-on-year growth) Adjusted EPS: $0.49 vs analyst estimates of $0.47 (5.1% beat) Adjusted Operating Income: $182.8 million vs analyst estimates of $185.4 million (11.4% margin, 1.4% miss) Management lowered its full-year Adjusted EPS guidance to $2.47 at the midpoint, a 11.6% decrease Operating Margin: 0.8%, down from 11.1% in the same quarter last year Market Capitalization: $13.6 billion Somnigroup's first quarter performance was shaped by the initial integration of Mattress Firm and the ongoing launch of new product lines, particularly the Sealy Posturepedic collection in North America. CEO Scott Thompson cited 'continued strong performance in our international business' and highlighted solid mid-single-digit sales growth in key markets, despite the impact of foreign exchange. Management also addressed weaker-than-expected U.S. consumer demand over the President's Day period and a challenging market backdrop. The company's operational focus included expanding distribution, accelerating private label initiatives, and streamlining logistics, all of which were intended to counteract industry headwinds and drive market share gains. Looking forward, Somnigroup's revised outlook reflects lowered expectations for the U.S. bedding market, with management now projecting a mid-single-digit industry decline for the year. CFO Bhaskar Rao attributed the guidance cut primarily to a 'rapid change in consumer confidence or sentiment in the U.S.,' describing it as volatile and policy-driven. The company plans to offset new tariff costs by combining supplier negotiations and price increases, which are set to take effect in the third quarter. Management emphasized upcoming marketing campaigns and the ongoing rollout of the Sealy collection as potential drivers for a modest second-half improvement, though they cautioned that overall industry demand is likely to remain subdued. Management discussed the integration of Mattress Firm, evolving market conditions, and the company's response to tariff developments as major themes impacting the quarter. International business momentum: The international segment, led by the Tempur brand, delivered mid-single-digit sales growth on a reported basis and high single digits in constant currency. Management highlighted the success of new Tempur products and an expanded price range that increased distribution opportunities and market reach. Sealy Posturepedic launch progress: The comprehensive rebranding and rollout of the Sealy Posturepedic collection in North America was a major operational focus. Early locations showed encouraging results, and the product is expected to be widely available by Memorial Day, supported by a national advertising campaign. Mattress Firm integration and synergies: Somnigroup completed the first phase of integrating Mattress Firm, focusing on leadership alignment, cost reduction, and logistics optimization. The company increased its near-term synergy target for 2025 to $15 million and is leveraging Mattress Firm's home delivery network for enhanced operational efficiency. Tariff mitigation strategy: Facing new tariffs, Somnigroup acted to reduce exposure through supplier changes and cost-sharing arrangements. The remaining impact will be addressed by a 2% price increase in North America, effective in the third quarter, with management expecting the combination of actions to fully offset the tariff cost. Advertising and merchandising changes: Somnigroup is doubling down on advertising scale, aiming for more effective campaigns by aligning messaging and leveraging buying power. Mattress Firm is also expanding its assortment through new vendor partnerships and increasing the share of Tempur Sealy-manufactured products, including an expanded private label offering. Somnigroup's updated outlook centers on cautious U.S. consumer sentiment, cost pressures from tariffs, and the pace of synergy realization from the Mattress Firm acquisition. Consumer confidence uncertainty: Management attributed the lower guidance to a double-digit decline in U.S. consumer confidence, which it sees as the main determinant of short-term demand. While this index is considered highly volatile and policy-sensitive, any recovery in sentiment could improve sales trends. Tariff pass-through and cost management: The company expects to manage increased tariff-related costs by shifting suppliers and raising prices. While these actions are intended to neutralize the margin impact, there is a lag in implementation, leading to a temporary headwind in the second quarter. New product and marketing initiatives: The ongoing rollout of the Sealy Posturepedic collection and the reimagined Mattress Firm advertising campaign are expected to drive incremental demand in the second half. Management is also focused on merchandising changes and expanded vendor partnerships to enhance store traffic and average order value. In the coming quarters, the StockStory team will be watching (1) the pace of synergy realization and operational improvements following the Mattress Firm acquisition, (2) the market response to new product launches and expanded vendor partnerships, and (3) the effectiveness of tariff mitigation and price increase strategies. Progress on these fronts, as well as shifts in U.S. consumer confidence, will be key indicators of future performance. Somnigroup currently trades at a forward P/E ratio of 22.7×. The best sleep masks for a restful night, tried and tested

Getting a steady eight hours of sleep a night doesn't always come naturally, but just like finding the best mattresses and pillows to help you get some solid rest, finding the best sleep mask can make a world of difference when you're trying to block out light for some crucial added ZZZs. Sleep masks can range in price from £5 to £150 depending on the type of fabric you want to invest in (you'll find everything from cotton to mulberry silk in our round-up) or high tech features you may want to add to your sleep experience, like a mask that massages your eyes or has built-in headphones. I tested some of the best sleep masks, from leading brands such as Tempur, SnoozeBand, Drowsy and Boots, to see how they aided a good night's sleep. This guide is also regularly checked and updated. The best sleep masks: At a glance How to choose the best sleep mask for you Whether you need a sleep mask to help with having a lie-in, resting during the day after a night shift, or blocking out distractions on a flight, start by choosing the right material for your skin. Consider whether silk, cotton, or velvet will be best suited to sit over your eye area, and whether the material inside the mask, such as memory foam or polyester, will give you a more comfortable experience overall. Dr Linsday Browning, author of Navigating Sleeplessness and bedroom furniture brand And So To Bed's sleep expert, says using a 'poor quality eye mask made of fabric that is not breathable and may cause you to sweat and overheat. Also, if they are not soft, you may find the fabric irritating against your face'. Hygiene and fit are important factors to consider, too. 'Ensure that your eye mask is washable, so that you can regularly wash it to keep it hygienic and that the strap that goes around your head is tight enough so that it doesn't slide off your face during the night, but not too uncomfortable,' she adds. While elasticated straps should provide a decent fit for most, look for adjustable straps if you'd like a truly customisable fit. Finally, consider whether you want any additional features such as headphones, massaging or contoured eye pads with your mask. How we test sleep masks I wore each sleep mask for number of nights consecutively to test how comfortable it was against my face for up to eight hours, and whether it threw up any features that positively or negatively impacted my sleep. I tested how well the masks blocked out light by wearing them during the day, at night with a low light on, and in complete darkness. I also took note of how soft and breathable the different materials felt against my skin, and the overall hygiene of each mask by how easy it was to wash. I also looked for how comfortable the different fastenings were and how well the masks fit my head, and whether they felt secure or slipped off during the night. Best Buy Sleep Mask: Drowsy Silk Sleep Mask This sumptuous silk sleep mask by Drowsy is one of the most luxurious on the market. Its cloud-like padding is soft and comfortable, wrapping all the way around my head, and left my eyes feeling cushioned and supported. This is a true blackout eye mask and successfully blocked out any light. It lay flush against my face to keep everything dark, even around my nose where light can often seep in. The wide adjustable strap provided a snug but comfortable fit and meant I didn't have to worry about it moving during my sleep. I didn't wake up with marks, creases or lines on my face, which sometimes happens with other masks. The mask's mulberry silk is 22 momme (the weight measurement for silk). The higher the momme, the heavier and more premium the silk, with this considered midweight. It requires more gentle care than cotton and polyester so you can either hand wash this sleep mask, which is my preference, or Drowsy suggests you can machine wash it on a cold or delicates cycle in a laundry bag. There are 18 shades to choose from. I tried (and loved) the lilac lavender haze colour but others available include deep rouge, emerald green, pumpkin spice and pale pink. There's even one inspired the mask worn by Audrey Hepburn's character Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's, complete with gold embroidery and eyelashes. This is one of the more expensive sleep masks on the market, but having tried it, I would happily pay the £70 RRP. Retailers Cult Beauty and Selfridges regularly stock the eye mask at a discounted price, however. Key specifications 2. Best Value Sleep Mask: Boots The Travel Nightshade Eye Mask If you don't want to spend a great deal on a sleep mask but still want it to block out light and fit comfortably, one of the most affordable and impressive options I found is Boots' The Travel Nightshade Eye Mask. Even though it's not available in an array of colours and patterns, the simple grey design is incredibly thoughtful. The elasticated strap meant it fit comfortably around my head and it blocked out practically all light. (A sliver of light appeared when I glanced my eyes downwards into a specific position, otherwise it was completely dark.) The cotton polyester blend felt pleasant against my skin and didn't become sweaty or stuffy, while its lightweight and compact design made it easy to add to a travel bag for a night away. Given that it's by Boots, which often has a store in most major airports, train stations and travel hubs, it makes a good emergency choice if you've left your usual sleep mask at home and been caught short on the road. And if £6 wasn't enough of a bargain, with a Boots Advantage Card you'll save a further 10 per cent on all Boots own-brand products, making it just £5.40. The only slight inconvenience is that it needs to be hand washed, but it's hard to complain given the price. Key specifications 3. Best Sleep Mask with Headphones: SnoozeBand Deluxe Sleep Mask Headphones If you need music, a podcast or an audiobook to lull you to sleep, this is the solution for you. It's a sleep mask with super slim built-in headphones, so you can drown out a snoring partner or street noise without needing a pair of ear plugs or ear buds. It had such a positive impact on my bedtime routine that it quickly became a go-to every evening. At first, you need to adjust the position of the headphones so that they line up correctly with your ears, and it's not the quickest job. But once done, you can link it to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth to play everything from relaxing music to some of its built-in soothing sounds. With up to 15 hours of playback on a single charge, you can even set up an automatic shut-off timer for between one and three hours to save it from playing for too long after you've fallen asleep. The adjustable strap means that you can achieve a comfortable fit and the blackout design is impressive, keeping all light out. An added bonus is the built-in zippered section which can house an ice or heat pack, which may prove useful if you suffer from a sore head or migraines. Key specifications 4. Best Silk Sleep Mask: SilkAddict 100% Mulberry Silk Sleep Mask Wrap Score: 9/10 We like: It's cooling and light blocking We don't like: Only darker colour options If you're not already aware of the benefits of using a silk pillowcase, it can help prevent you waking up with creases on your face, stop your hair from becoming frizzy in the night, and stop often expensive night creams and moisturisers from sinking into the fabric. Silk sleep masks offer many of the same benefits. Mulberry silk is one to look out for while shopping for silk sleep masks and pillowcases. It s renowned for its strength, softness and hypoallergenic qualities, making it some of the highest quality that you'll find. This mask is 22 momme, and as someone who can often get quite warm overnight, I liked that this mask stayed cool all night long and was lovely and cushioning on my eyes and head. It also benefits from a velcro strap to allow for a superb fit which helps keep all light out. I awoke refreshed, with the sleep mask not having moved since I put it on, and I had no creases or marks on my face either. While it is available in six colours, it would have been nice to see it in a few brighter hues. But if you're looking for a simple and sophisticated design, this could be an excellent choice for you. Key specifications 5. Best Embroidered Sleep Mask: Elizabeth Scarlett Eye Mask If you find that silk masks slip down or move around as you toss and turn at night, a velvet design like this one could be a better option for you. The fabric used is luxuriously soft and the range of embroidered designs (which spans everything from animals and flowers to hearts and fruits, all set against a background of rich hues) adds to its premium feel. Its classic shape doesn't block out light completely, but it was still one of the better traditional options I came across. Plus, the elasticated strap was one of the tightest out of all the sleep masks that I tried, which I appreciated as I have a smaller head. It wasn't baggy and didn't add or cause any pressure on my eyes or around my head as I slept either. It also has enough stretch that it should work for a range of different people. It has a dried lavender filling, which I found was a soothing touch, while the accompanying storage bag makes it another great option to pack in your carry-on or to give as a gift. Key specifications Material: 100 per cent cotton velvet front, 100 per cent polyester velvet back Strap design: Elasticated strap Care instructions: Spot clean only Additional features: Filled with dried lavender 6. Best Blackout Sleep Mask: Manta Sleep Featuring additional eye socket pads, the Manta Sleep Mask has a true blackout design and, once I'd adjusted the pads to fit properly, lets zero light in. It took some trial and error to position pads correctly and when off by even a centimetre or two, I found that it started to press into the sides of my face as I moved from sleeping on my back to my side and vice versa. However, once they were in place, they offered some of the best light blocking of all the sleep masks that I tested. In comparison with the silk or cotton options I tried, the mask's modal fabric wasn't the softest or most breathable, so it could feel quite stifling in warmer weather or when you have the central heating on. It has a somewhat medical look to it too, which might not be to everyone's taste. It comes with a pair of earplugs and an accompanying mesh wash bag, making it well suited for travel and a top pick for blocking out ambient light on a flight, bus or overnight train journey. Helpfully, Manta offers a 60 day trial period, so you can test the mask out for yourself and see if the eye cups and fabric works for you before fully committing. Key specifications Material: Modal eye cups, polycotton outer strap, polyester velour inner strap Strap design: Velcro wrap Care instructions: Machine washable Additional features: None 7. Best Sleep Mask for Comfort: Tempur Sleep Mask You are likely familiar with Tempur's mattresses and pillows, but the bestselling sleep brand also has an eye mask to match. Filled with its patented memory foam (the one originally designed for NASA astronauts), it conforms to the contours of your face in a comfortable, cushioning way while the adjustable velcro straps help you to find the right fit. Fastening it snugly blocks out any light while the soft velour cover adds yet another layer of relief for your eye area. This combination made it one of the most pleasant masks to wear overnight or for longer periods. The velour fabric could get quite warm however, which wasn't an issue for me during colder nights, but could become a little stuffy at warmer temperatures. It's spot clean only and you can't submerge it in water. For those simply using it at bedtime, while not ideal, this shouldn't be too troublesome (just remember to remove any makeup fully and let all skincare sink in before wear). But it would be hard to clean if it was particularly stained or dirty – something that's likely when travelling. Key specifications 8. Best Contoured Sleep Mask: Slip Contour Sleep Mask Slip has been selling silk sleep masks for many years now, but it's the new contour sleep mask range that caught my eye, and for good reason. It has a memory foam padded contour shape to protect your eyes (and any eyelash extensions) and I found the additional space around my eyes was both a good shield and made it supremely comfortable. It let in a tiny bit of light the elasticated strap meant it fit snugly. While I opted for floral striped motif, it also comes in three solid colours and two other summer-appropriate patterns, meaning there should be a style for every taste. The silk itself felt sumptuous and soft against my skin, too. Despite being a definite investment, the quality of the silk and the inclusion of a sturdy matching gift box makes this a luxury buy. And if you already happen to have one of Slip's matching silk pillowcases, the combination really elevates your sleeping experience; both had a noticeable impact on my hair in particular, leaving it much less frizzy and more manageable than normal come morning. Key specifications 9. Best Sleep Mask for Style: The White Company Silk Piped Eye Mask For something elegant and opulent looking, The White Company's piped silk eye mask is a lovely choice. It has an ivory white body and light silver piping and strap, so would work well for any upcoming brides, or paired with the brand's range of nightwear, silk pillowcases and scrunchies. It didn't completely blot out all light, but it felt silky and soft on my skin, and the elasticated strap kept it in place all night. And when comparing it with the other more affordable silk mask on this list from Marks & Spencer, I preferred The White Company's fit. It is hand wash only, which might put some off, but it only took a quick dip and some hanging outside on the line for it to be refreshed and ready to wear again later that day. The silk is 19 momme, which I was happy with given the price, and it feels like a better quality silk both to the touch and when wearing it. Key specifications Material: 100 per cent silk Strap design: Elasticated strap Care instructions: Hand wash only Additional features: None 10. Best Massaging Sleep Mask: Bob and Brad EyeOasis 3 Score: 7/10 We like: The eye massager, removable gel mask and storage pouch The Bob and Brad EyeOasis 3 is certainly one of the most innovative sleep masks on the market. It massages and gently heats your eyes (there are two settings), while a removable cooling gel eye mask means you can switch between different temperatures depending on what you need on a particular day. The features make it well suited to anyone who often experiences eye ache and headaches or simply wants to relax before bed. It's not suitable to wear during sleep (because of its sturdy and rather bulky design) but as someone who spends most of their time looking at a screen, I often get dry, tired eyes at the end of a long day. Adding this sleep aid to my bedtime routine has been a game changer, however. I wore it for around an hour before winding down each night and while I had been concerned the massage feature may feel intense or intrusive it was instead soothing. There are two additional features that make it stand out. Firstly, its foldable design and accompanying storage pouch mean it's still easy to store, keep clean and travel with. Secondly, and this is similar to the Snoozeband above, it has Bluetooth connectivity allowing you to hook it up to your phone or tablet and play music or podcasts of your choosing. A number of white noise tracks are also preloaded, including soft rain and meditation music, if that's more to your taste. Key specifications 11. Best Cotton Sleep Mask: Desmond & Dempsey Eye Mask Desmond & Dempsey is known for its sophisticated sleepwear, something that extends to its sleep masks. With a fun array of designs to choose from, you can match your sleep mask exactly to your pyjamas or nightdress, and the monochrome white and black jaguar print I tried is its bestselling pattern. Made from 100 per cent organic cotton, the eye mask was one of the most lightweight that I tested, making it a good choice for taking with you on your travels when every gram of that luggage allowance counts. The elasticated strap fitted tightly and securely around my head without leaving any indentations or lines, making it comfortable to wear for a full eight hours. It didn't block all light out, however, as I found quite a bit of bright light was able to filter through it, so it might not be the best option if you're hoping to get some shut eye during the day or somewhere that isn't relatively dark to begin with. The brand also recommends that you hand wash it. Key specifications 12. Best High Street Sleep Mask: M&S Collection Pure Mulberry Silk Eye Mask If you've been on the lookout for a 100 per cent silk sleep mask, you'll know just how tricky it can be to find a good quality one for less than £25. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that Marks & Spencer had a mulberry silk option for just shy of £15. Coming in two somewhat neutral shades – a light blue and creamy mink – it felt soft and cosy on my skin. And unlike the majority of the sleep masks that I've featured in this round-up, you can pick it up in-store, instead of having to order it online. I also appreciated that it can be washed in the machine, as it does save time and energy, though the price does require some compromise. While I liked this sleep mask's feel and construction, I sadly found the elasticated strap to be a bit too big and baggy, which meant that it shifted around on my head quite a bit during the night. Regular readjustment became rather annoying. It is also important to note that it doesn't block out the light completely either, but this is to be expected given that the mask doesn't fully reach down to the nose. Key specifications Sleep mask FAQs Do sleep masks work? Not only can sleep masks be highly beneficial for the skin but 'by blocking out light, they also regulate melatonin production, promoting deeper, more restorative sleep,' cosmetic dermatology Dr. Simon Ourian says. So, if you've been debating adding a sleep mask to your bedtime or travel routine, it is well worth trying one. 'Quality sleep is essential for skin repair, as collagen production peaks at night, helping to maintain elasticity and reduce fine lines. So, a well-chosen sleep mask can contribute to a refreshed, radiant complexion,' he adds. Are sleep masks bad for your eyes? Not if you choose the right one. 'A poorly designed sleep mask – one that's too tight or made from rough fabrics – can cause friction, leading to irritation, puffiness or even fine lines around the eyes,' Dr. Ourian said. 'To protect the delicate under-eye area, opt for silk or satin masks, which minimise friction, prevent moisture loss and help reduce the risk of premature ageing.' Do sleep masks help with dark circles? While sleep masks don't directly eliminate dark circles, they can help prevent them, Dr Ourian says. 'Poor sleep increases cortisol levels, which can break down collagen, leading to under-eye puffiness and dark shadows. By promoting deeper sleep, sleep masks support skin regeneration, reduce inflammation and help maintain a brighter, more youthful-looking eye area.' Cooling or weighted sleep masks may also improve circulation, further reducing dark circles and under-eye bags. Why do eye masks help you sleep? Most of us find that we get a better night's sleep when it's dark. This is because too much light before bed can disrupt melatonin production, making it harder to go to sleep, and light too early in the morning can mean we wake earlier than we would like, Dr. Browning says. 'If you don't have good quality curtains (perhaps you are staying in a hotel room or camping), then an eye mask can be an easy way of solving the problem of disruptive light in the bedroom. This may be especially important in the summer months in the northern hemisphere when the daylight hours are so long.'

5 best mattresses for kids to ensure a good night's sleep

Let's face it - is there anything more precious than your little one getting a proper kip? And investing in the best mattress for kids isn't just about avoiding those early morning meltdowns (though we parents definitely appreciate that part!). 6 " Sleep is not a luxury; it's a fundamental necessity, especially for children," says Lisa Artis, Deputy CEO, The Sleep Charity. "Quality sleep is essential for a child's physical, cognitive, and emotional development, laying the foundation for a healthy and thriving future." Like securing the best pillows for their little heads, finding the best mattress for your child is absolutely crucial for giving them that all-important rest they need. Whether your little one has outgrown their cotbed or their current mattress has seen better days, we've hunted down the top mattresses for kids that'll have them sleeping like, well, babies! From budget-friendly options that won't empty your wallet to premium picks worth investing in, our roundup has something for every family. We've done the hard work testing these mattresses so you don't have to - your child's sweet dreams are just a scroll away. Best mattresses for kids at a glance: How we tested We put these mattresses through some proper testing with our mini sleep experts (aged between four and 13). These brutally honest little reviewers gave us the lowdown on comfort levels, sleep quality, and general bounceability (because what child doesn't use their bed as a trampoline?). We also grilled their equally sleep-deprived parents on whether they noticed any improvement in their little ones' sleep patterns. Beyond comfort, we looked at practicality - can you chuck the cover in the wash after those inevitable accidents? Will it still be going strong after years of jumping abuse? And perhaps most importantly for parents - can you actually get the bloomin' thing up the stairs and into position without putting your back out? 1. Simba Hybrid Kids Mattress 6 Simba Hybrid Kids Mattress, £349 BUY FROM SIMBA Pros: Washable cover, 200-night trial and 10-year guarantee, made from recyclable materials Cons: Expensive, no Euro size Rating: 5 out of 5 We were blown away by the Simba Hybrid Kids Mattress - and honestly, it's worth every penny of that premium price tag. If you've read any of our previous reviews, you'll know we're already huge fans of Simba's adult mattresses, so we had high expectations - and this kids' version absolutely delivered. With a staggering 4.9/5 rating from over 1,800 parents, we had to see what all the fuss was about. My 11-year-old sister (our official tiny tester who LOVES her sleep) gave it the ultimate compliment: "It's like sleeping in mummy and daddy's bed" - considering her parents sleep on a £3,000 Tempur, that's quite the endorsement! First impressions? While it looks worryingly slim at first (more like a luxury topper), it takes about 7-8 hours to fully inflate. Even then, it remains surprisingly thin, making it perfect for bunk beds or shallow frames. Despite its modest depth, the five layers of sleep-tech deliver incredible comfort. My sister described it as "sinking into a cloud" - and the morning struggle to get her out of bed speaks volumes! It's slightly firmer than Simba's adult versions, but still wonderfully supportive, particularly for children with joint issues who need proper alignment during sleep. The washable cover is an absolute godsend for parents (trust us on those inevitable Capri Sun spills and biscuit crumbs). And with that impressive 10-year guarantee and 200-night free trial, Simba's confidence in their product is clearly justified. Sizes available: Single (90x190cm). Depth: 16cm. Ages recommended: 3 to adult. Type: Hybrid 2. Stompa S Flex Airflow Pocket Mattress 6 Stompa S Flex Airflow Pocket Mattress, £279 BUY FROM DFS Rating: 5 out of 5 This hybrid mattress from kids' bed specialists Stompa arrived vacuum-packed in a surprisingly compact box that we had no trouble lugging up to the bedroom (a major win for parents everywhere!). After unrolling and giving it a few hours to expand to its full glory, we discovered it's got quite a bit more bounce than we were expecting - much to the delight of our four-year-old tester who couldn't resist using it as an impromptu trampoline. The cover feels wonderfully smooth and soft against the skin, and parents will love that it's removable for those inevitable midnight accidents. At just 16cm deep, it's one of the slimmer options on our list, making it absolutely perfect for bunk or cabin beds. Don't let that fool you though - it still delivers impressive comfort and support where it counts. The ultimate test? Our little tester nodded off in under five minutes at bedtime. If that's not a ringing endorsement, we don't know what is! 3. Little Green Sheep Natural Junior Mattress 6 Little Green Sheep Natural Junior Mattress, £345.95 Cons: No washable cover Rating: 4 out of 5 If you're looking for something that's kind to both your little one's skin AND the planet, this gorgeous mattress from Little Green Sheep ticks all the right boxes. Made exclusively from natural ingredients, it's a beautifully crafted piece of sleep tech that feels genuinely premium. The innovative core combines thousands of coconut fibres blended with natural latex (essentially creating tiny natural springs), topped with luxurious wool and finished with a pure cotton cover. For parents of kids with sensitive skin or allergies, this natural approach means it's wonderfully breathable and hypoallergenic - though you'll definitely want to invest in their waterproof mattress protector too if your child is prone to nighttime accidents! We found it sits on the firmer end of the spectrum compared to others on our list, but the gentle bounce is lovely and impressively, it doesn't sink or dip even when an adult plonks down for storytime. The quality of materials feels genuinely luxurious - honestly, it feels much more expensive than it actually is. And with a five-year guarantee, it's built to last through those crucial growing years! 4. SnuzSurface Max Junior Mattress 6 SnuzSurface Max Junior Mattress, £249.95 BUY FROM SNUZ Rating: 4 out of 5 If you're after a decent mattress that won't completely empty your wallet, this offering from baby and child sleep specialists Snüz is well worth checking out. After all, these folks literally specialize in helping little ones get a proper night's kip! Price-wise, it sits comfortably in the mid-range bracket and comes with some impressive perks - a five-year guarantee, that all-important waterproof and washable cover, and the option of a Euro size for those continental bed frames. When it comes to comfort, we found this mattress pleasantly firm and supportive. Yes, the waterproof cover does feel a tad plasticky compared to some of the premium options we tested, but once you've thrown a sheet over it, your little one won't notice a thing. Our five-year-old tester (predictably) used it as a trampoline first, then settled down for a solid night's sleep looking comfortable and well-supported. An unexpected bonus? The fun purple color looks absolutely brilliant peeking through top bunk bed slats! And like most modern mattresses, it arrives vacuum-rolled, making that awkward upstairs manoeuvre significantly less painful. 5. Nöa & Nani Jax Single Mattress 6 Noa and Nani Jax Single Mattress, £158 BUY FROM NOA & NANI Pros: Removable cover, eco foam, washable cover, budget-friendly Cons: Heavy Rating: 3 out of 5 If you're watching the pennies but still want a decent night's kip for your little one, this simple foam mattress from Noa and Nani might be just the ticket. Made from recyclable eco foam (thumbs up for sustainability!), it offers a pleasingly firm feel with just enough bounce to keep kids comfortable. The removable cover feels soft and plush against the skin, and at just 14cm deep, it's perfectly suited for cabin or bunk beds. Fair warning though - this foam is surprisingly hefty, so changing the cover on a top bunk requires some serious muscle power! Not one for those with a dodgy back. Our five-year-old tester seemed perfectly content with this budget-friendly option, sleeping soundly through the night and waking up well-rested. It might not have all the bells and whistles of pricier models, but it certainly gets the job done without emptying your wallet. Kids mattress FAQs How to choose a mattress for kids? Getting the right mattress for your little one isn't just about having somewhere for them to crash after a long day of wreaking havoc - it's actually pretty crucial for their development (and your sanity!). When it comes to picking the perfect bed, there's plenty to think about beyond just "will it fit?" We're talking firmness levels, materials that won't trigger allergies, and covers that can withstand everything from bedtime milk spills to the occasional accident. The good news? We've done the hard work for you! After watching our mini testers bounce, roll, sleep and (sometimes) drool on these mattresses, we've figured out what really matters when you're shopping for kids' beds. Where should I buy a mattress for the kids? When it comes to finding the perfect kip station for your little ones, there's a whole world of options out there - and honestly, it can feel a bit overwhelming! If you're scratching your head wondering where to start, we'd recommend taking a peek at specialist mattress retailers like Simba or Emma, who have dedicated children's sections with options specifically designed for smaller sleepers. Alternatively, established bed and furniture retailers like Dreams, DFS, or John Lewis have fantastic kids' ranges with helpful staff who can talk you through the options. Don't forget online marketplaces too - places like Amazon often have competitive prices and quick delivery, which is perfect when you need that new mattress pronto (because let's face it, once you've decided their old one needs replacing, you want the new one yesterday!). How much do kids' mattresses cost? You're looking at anywhere from a budget-friendly £100 right up to a wallet-wincing £1,000 depending on what you're after. Generally speaking, a fancy hybrid mattress (with springs and foam) will set you back more than a simple foam option. But here's the thing - before you have a mini heart attack at some of those price tags, remember that this is where your child will spend nearly half their life! When you break it down as cost-per-use, even that pricier mattress suddenly seems like a bargain. You can also watch out for the best mattress deals right here. Our advice? Spend as much as you can reasonably afford without feeling the pinch - think of it as an investment in your child's development (and your wellbeing when they're not cranky from poor sleep!). What type of mattress is best for kids? Kids spend nearly half their lives sleeping, so investing in a decent mattress is absolutely crucial. But before you start panic-scrolling through endless options, take a breath - we've got you covered with everything you need to know. When shopping for your child's perfect sleep spot, you'll want to consider firmness (medium-firm is generally best for growing bodies), materials that won't trigger allergies or skin issues, and durability to withstand their inevitable mattress gymnastics sessions. From pocket-sprung options that provide solid support to hybrids that offer the best of both worlds, we've tested them all with our mini sleep critics. And trust us - when it comes to getting the thumbs up from fussy sleepers, these recommendations have passed with flying colours! Is a hard or soft mattress better for kids? When it comes to what firmness is best for your little one, it's not quite as simple as "hard vs soft" - there's a bit of a Goldilocks situation going on here! Generally speaking, most sleep experts recommend a medium-firm mattress for growing children, which provides that sweet spot of support for developing bones without being uncomfortably hard. Too soft, and your child might sink in too deeply, causing alignment issues for their growing spine (and possibly making it harder for them to roll over or move during sleep). Too firm, and they might wake up feeling achy or struggle to get comfortable in the first place. The good news? Most kids' mattresses are designed with this balance in mind, though you'll find some brands lean slightly firmer or softer. Your best bet is to consider your child's specific needs - heavier children might need more support, while very lightweight little ones might find a slightly softer surface more comfortable. Can kids have a memory foam mattress? The short answer is yes - but there are a few things to consider before you dive into memory foam territory for your little ones! Memory foam mattresses can be a brilliant option for school-aged children (typically 5+), offering excellent pressure relief and support that can be particularly helpful for restless sleepers or kids with growing pains. However, for very young children and toddlers, most experts recommend avoiding memory foam as they might not have the strength to easily change positions if they sink too deeply. There's also the potential for memory foam to retain more heat than other mattress types - something to bear in mind if your little one is already a hot sleeper who kicks off the covers! If you do opt for memory foam, look for CertiPUR-US certified options with low VOC emissions and consider a hybrid version that combines memory foam comfort with the support of springs - the best of both worlds for growing bodies! How are children's mattresses different from adult mattresses? Is a kids' mattress just a single adult mattress? Not exactly. Kids' bodies are always developing and changing size and shape, so children's mattresses tend to be designed with additional support for growing bones. They will generally feel like a medium-firm/firm adult mattress and will often come with additional features such as waterproof or washable covers for potential night time accidents. If you're shopping for a top bunk bed or cabin bed, you need to check the depth of your mattress too, as the safety rails around your bunk need to be at least 16cm taller than the mattress to prevent falls.

Simba Sleep is giving away up to £836 in 'freebies' when shoppers purchase a mattress

The sleep tech brand is offering luxury bedding, such as pillows and duvets, on the house Everyone knows how crucial a good night's sleep is for well-being. While investing in a quality mattress and bedding can feel like a splurge, it pays off night after night. With that in mind, sleep tech brand Simba has launched a seriously tempting offer that makes upgrading any sleep setup even more worthwhile. Right now, when purchasing a Simba mattress, shoppers can receive up to £800+ worth of free sleep-enhancing gifts, including pillows, mattress protectors and a premium duvet. For instance, with a double, king, or super king Simba Hybrid mattress, customers will get two free memory foam pillows (worth £218) and a mattress protector (worth up to £169) - that's £387 of added value. If you're after a single-size mattress, you'll get the same deal - but only one pillow instead of two. Meanwhile, the Simba Luxe Mattress (from £1,119) comes with even more premium freebies. If shoppers buy any double, king or super king Luxe, they'll receive a Hybrid 3-in-1 duvet, a mattress protector and two Hybrid pillows — worth up to £836. As before, single mattresses are also included in the offer, but with one pillow instead of two. If you're not familiar with Simba mattresses, its bestselling Hybrid Mattress is probably the best known. It has racked up over 100,000 five-star reviews for its 'supportive' five-layer design, which combines springs with memory foam. The brand also offers a 30-day trial and a 12-month guarantee. One happy user said: "After spending a few weeks sleeping on the Simba Hybrid mattress, I can confidently say it lives up to much of the hype. It's a great blend of support and comfort, and the materials feel premium from the moment you lie down." A second chimed in: "The mattress arrived on time with an easy delivery. It is super comfortable and folded out well. I was a bit worried when it was all crushed up in the box, but it is firm and doesn't have any dips in it. Also, the duvet and pillows are great so far and stay plump." However, someone complained: "It wasn't comfortable for me. No quibble return was provided, though, with mattress collection provided." If you're keen to shop around before purchase, plenty of other top-quality mattresses are on the market. Tempur, for instance, uses NASA-approved technology to design mattresses, all of which mould to your unique shape to relieve pressure wherever you need it most. Emma Sleep is also a good option. Its award-winning Hybrid Premium Mattress features three layers of advanced foam, each designed to enhance sleep by increasing breathability, evenly distributing weight and minimising movement. Another Simba Hybrid Mattress fan said: "I love this mattress. We bought it for our first home, and it gave us a great night's sleep. Firmness is perfect for us. No sore backs. No more tossing and turning. Comfort level is 10/10." Buying a mattress is a big-ticket purchase, but these generous extras could be the best investment you make for your sleep health this year. The whole Simba range is available to shop here and the sale ends on May 5.

Uniqlo Sets Up Sewing, Retail Training Skills Center In India

Uniqlo is taking on a bigger presence in India, this time with a job vocational training center to empower underprivileged youth. The three-year program—Job-Oriented Vocational Training Centre—is designed to provide young job seekers with sewing machine and retail training skills, as well as life skills such as financial literacy. It targets young adults between ages 18 and 29 from economically disadvantaged households. The Saksham Centre in Dwarka, Delhi, will host the program, which is in collaboration with Plan International and a donation of 120 million Japanese Yen from Uniqlo parent Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. It is fundamental for UNIQLO that, in every country and region that we operate, we always contribute to the society, and this new project reaffirms our long-term commitment to the Indian community,' Uniqlo India's CFO and chief operating officer Kenji Inoue said. 'Education is an integral part of individual and societal development and, working with Plan International, we look forward to providing opportunities to empower young people.' Plan International's India Chapter executive director Mohammed Asif said that the program will provide young women and men with market-oriented skills so they can become 'active contributors to nation building.' Uniqlo India operates 15 retail stores and is looking to expand its store presence. Its first store in New Delhi opened in 2019. Most of the store locations are in New Delhi. The retailer opened its first Mumbai store in 2023. The brand sources some of its product locally, although T-shirts and its Heattech apparel that are manufactured in India are exported to its global store network. The brand is also considering retail internships at its stores for those who train at the Saksham Centre. Uniqlo in January agreed to stop using gig economy apps, such as Tempur and YoungOnes, to hire temporary store-based workers. The U.K. Trades Union Congress at the time asked some retailers—the retailers, including Uniqlo, are believed to have used the apps only briefly for the holiday selling season—to stop the practice due to concerns that freelancers hired through the apps weren't getting basic employment rights. When Fast Retailing posted first-quarter profits in January, the company said Uniqlo's businesses saw 'favorable' expansion in Southeast Asia, India & Australia, North America and Europe. The focus of store openings has been across North America and Europe. Fast Retailing in October 2023 detailed plans on how it would step up new store openings.
