Colchester teen arrested as hoax calls made to two Essex schools

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after threatening hoax calls were made to two schools. Essex Police said calls were made to schools in Colchester and Tendring on Tuesday afternoon. The force said it "responded swiftly" and worked with the schools "to ensure the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff". The boy, from Colchester, was arrested on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat and causing a public nuisance, and remains in police custody for questioning. A police spokesperson said inquiries "soon established the threats were unlikely to be of a credible nature"."At this stage, nothing found during our investigation has indicated that the threats made were in any way viable or likely to be carried out," they added. Both schools followed safety protocols, as a precaution, and will be kept updated, the force said. Follow Essex news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X.
