Imam dies while leading Friday prayers in Raub
RAUB: An imam collapsed and died while leading Friday prayers at the Rahmat Mosque in Felda Lembah Klau near here today, shocking the congregation.
Tengku Badri Tengku Jaafar, 60, was leading prayers for about 500 worshippers when he collapsed around 1.40pm.
State Islamic Religious Department director Datuk Ahmad Khirrizal Ab Rahman said a medical assistant from the Lembah Klau Health Clinic, who was also attending prayers in the same mosque, immediately stepped in to provide assistance.
"The medical assistant provided first aid, but Tengku Badri breathed his last at the imam's prayer section. Tengku Badri was appointed as the mosque's second imam in May this year.
"The Felda settler's remains were buried at the Felda Lembah Klau Muslim burial ground after Isyak prayers today," he said.
Meanwhile, Raub police chief, Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman, said that Tengku Badri had previously received treatment for heart disease at Raub Hospital.
He said the case has been classified as a sudden death.
