Tennessee High School receives gold award for voter registration

BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett presented the Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Award for Voter Registration to Tennessee High School on Monday. The award goes to Tennessee schools that register 100% of eligible students to vote. Tim Tebow speaks at Tri-Cities Community Prayer Breakfast 'It says to me that they're politically engaged and evolved, and the whole mission of the school is to prepare students for post-graduate success,' said Andrew Cross, who teaches government and economics at Tennessee High. 'We want to do that both in the classroom, but also in the voting booth and in the economy. This tells me that they're prepared to go out in the world and become an active member civically in our society.' Monday marked the second year that Tennessee High achieved the award. 'It isn't really something that is about myself or my fellow student ambassador,' Tennessee High senior Anna Grace Hodges said. 'It's about the impact we've had on our fellow students in our community, because both of us have recognized the importance of voting and the meaning of it, and how we can change our country for the better.' TN High students create film advocating against texting while driving

BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — Tennessee High School's (THS) Criminal Justice 2 class worked with the Bristol, Tennessee, Fire Department Saturday to make an awareness video on the dangers of texting while driving. Senior Fairyn Meares said the project follows a class poll in which students admitted to texting while driving. 'Hands Off!' rallies held around the region 'We just know that it's difficult for young people nowadays with all the social media and everything that they feel compelled to look at,' Meares said. It's just trying to send awareness out to everyone, especially everyone in our school, to focus on yourself and safety first.' The City of Bristol, TN, said in a social media post, 'We commend these THS students for focusing on the dangers of texting while driving during National Distracted Driving Month.' The video was filmed on the old access road to Holston View Elementary School. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
