'Carlos Alcaraz needs to stay away from controversy - I want to spoil his party'

Alexander Zverev has been speaking about the emerging rivalry between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, and the German has changed his tune when it comes to his chances of success against them Alexander Zverev has warned Carlos Alcaraz to stay away from controversy if he wants to remain tennis' golden boy, adding that he's here to crash his party. ‌ The world No.3 declared himself "not good enough" to take on Alcaraz and Wimbledon winner Jannik Sinner after losing to the latter in the Australian Open final in January, but has since changed his mind. ‌ Zverev now reckons he's close to gatecrashing the Alcaraz and Sinner show. The German told Tennis365:"Maybe it hasn't been my best year, but I don't think I'm as far away as some people might think. ‌ "At the moment, Carlos is the star boy. He just brings great energy to the court, and along with Jannik, they are the players to beat. I just hope to spoil their party a little bit, and I think I can do that." It's a far cry from his previously defeatist attitude, where he said after his defeat to Sinner: "You're just too good. It's as simple as that. I want to thank my team. We're trying to do all the right work. I'm just not good enough. It's as simple as that. I don't know if I'll ever be able to lift the trophy, but I'll keep coming back, I'll keep trying." ‌ Zverev may have touted Alcaraz as the 'star boy' of tennis, but he made sure to warn the Spaniard that he must remain attractive to the tennis fans and avoid any controversial moments in order to keep this persona up. "Carlos is a great guy. He is fun to be around, and he always has a smile on his face. If he can avoid any controversies, he is going to be very, very loved by tennis fans," he added. Zverev has a slight edge in his head-to-head record against Alcaraz and Sinner, boasting one more victory over each. The German tennis ace has notched up six wins against Alcaraz's five, while he leads Sinner with four wins to three. Despite this advantage, Zverev has yet to clinch a Grand Slam title, having fallen short in three finals: the 2025 Australian Open against Sinner, the 2024 French Open to Alcaraz, and the 2020 US Open, where Dominic Thiem triumphed. To truly rival his higher-ranked stars, Zverev recognises the need to reach more major finals and ultimately lift the trophy.

Brit tennis star urges people to leave Emma Raducanu alone after Wimbledon loss

Emma Raducanu was defeated in the third round of Wimbledon by Aryna Sabalenka after a stellar run, and Dan Evans has urged people to let the British No. 3 be ahead of the US Open Former British No. 1 Dan Evans has urged fans to 'leave Emma Raducanu alone' following her encouraging Wimbledon campaign. The shock US Open champion reached the third round at SW19. Raducanu encountered a stern examination at the All England Club earlier this month when she took on world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. The 22-year-old, who stunned the tennis world by claiming the US Open in 2021 as a qualifier, had already seen off former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova before her third-round clash. ‌ The British star fought courageously, going down in straight sets 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, with Evans now making a plea following this heartening display ahead of the upcoming US Open. ‌ "Emma should definitely take a lot from the Sabalenka match," Evans told Tennis365, when quizzed about the British No. 3's Wimbledon journey this year. "It was great to see her out there fighting the way she did and I thought she was the better player for long periods of that match against Sabalenka, who is the world No.1. "I'm interested to see what comes next for Emma. She is already back on the court working hard, and I think the summer in America is going to be good for her. ‌ "We always need to manage expectations a little around Emma, but let's leave her alone, let her enjoy playing tennis and she has a decent chance to do well heading into the US Open." The Big Apple was the backdrop for Raducanu's stunning triumph four years ago, as she powered through top-tier opponents like Belinda Bencic, Maria Sakkari and Leylah Fernandez to clinch the US Open title without dropping a set until the semi-finals. ‌ Since her meteoric rise, Raducanu has seen a revolving door of coaches, parting ways with Andrew Richardson just a fortnight after her US Open victory. As she gears up for a return to the prestigious tournament in August, she's yet to progress beyond the opening round since her historic win, reports the Express. The British tennis star's coaching situation remains uncertain. She's been with Mark Petchey sporadically since the Miami Open, and although he steered her to notable performances at Wimbledon, it's still up in the air if their partnership will persist beyond this competition. Evans, adding to his perspective on how Raducanu should be treated, hinted at a potential future in coaching once he puts down his racket. "Coaching is something I would look at," Evans confessed. "It depends on what opportunity came up and the idea of working with players and see that improvement might be interesting. "When you are working on the other side of the fence as a coach, you might argue it gives you even more satisfaction to see a player improving."

Novak Djokovic provoked to act by John McEnroe's 'don't be fooled' accusation

Novak Djokovic provoked to act by John McEnroe's 'don't be fooled' accusation Novak Djokovic faces Alexandre Muller this afternoon on Centre Court at Wimbledon Novak Djokovic of Serbia (Image:) Novak Djokovic is back at Wimbledon and is straight into the action this afternoon. The 38-year-old is seen very much as the veteran of the men's game now, with a new generation of stars emerging in the shapes of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in the past two years or so. ‌ Still, Djokovic remains a formidable opponent, especially on grass, and the Serb will be hoping to take his game to French opponent Alexandre Muller this afternoon on Centre Court. ‌ Last year, at the same venue, Djokovic's preparation was far from ideal, heading into the tournament carrying a knee injury. The seven-time SW19 champion had been forced to retire from the French Open at the last-eight stage with a torn meniscus, which needed surgery. Against all the odds, he decided to accept his place at Wimbledon just four weeks later, much to the confusion of his wife. He admitted he could not give Jelena a straight answer. Article continues below When asked by FOX News why he opted not to sit out the historic competition, Djokovic quipped: "My wife also kind of asked the same question, right? Which is normal. "[You are] 37 years old, you want to maybe have less risk and prepare yourself for the Olympic Games? So from that perspective, I don't have an answer to that. "But, I do have something that is described as a feeling of not missing out at a Grand Slam while I can still play and while I'm still active and at this level. ‌ "I wouldn't call it a fear of missing out. I would just say it's this incredible desire to play, just to compete, particularly because it is Wimbledon, the tournament that always has been a dream tournament for me when I was a kid. Just the thought of me missing Wimbledon was just not correct. I didn't want to deal with that." Feud with McEnroe Injury struck Djokovic again this year at the Australian Open. The Serb suffered a muscle tear during his quarter-final win over Alcaraz and was in visible discomfort on the court. John McEnroe, though, on commentary duty, appeared to suggest the Grand Slam winner was making a meal of his injury. "This isn't the first time we've seen this routine. Don't be fooled," he said during commentary. ‌ But the injury was indeed very real, with Djokovic having to retire hurt in the semis against Alexander Zverev. He then posted an image of his MRI scan, saying: "Thought I'd leave this here for all the sports injury 'experts' out there." Speaking later about the controversy ahead of the Qatar Open, via Tennis 365, he appeared to take aim at McEnroe, adding: "Well, I was provoked by the fact that several times in a row, as long as I was in Australia, I was injured on the 21st and the 23rd. "I can't say everyone, but I felt a fairly large group of people thought that it was not true and that my injuries were actually some kind of provocation on my part or to play strategic mental games with my opponents. Article continues below "And I would not have reacted if some legends of our sport had not reacted. "I think that when some things remain on social media, that's fine, but when it escalates to the point where people have a dilemma and simply question my integrity and the credibility of what I said. "Especially when it comes from some people who are really legends of the sport and who have a multi-million audience that listens to them when they broadcast the matches, then I felt the need to react, to show the recording from the MRI."
