Outlander's Caitriona Balfe worlds away from Claire Fraser in new film role
The Irish actress has transformed for her new movie Outlander actress Caitríona Balfe looks completely different in her exciting new film role. after it was confirmed she was also starring in a historical drama and the final scene of her Starz series was teased. The actress, 45, has foregone the wigs and period costumes for a choppy blonde bob and a contemporary outfit as she stars in the boxing movie The Cut. The Claire Fraser star shared a trailer on her Instagram account and captioned it: 'Every comeback comes at a price. Watch the official trailer for #TheCutMovie - Only in theatres September 5.' Balfe stars opposite Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom and Severance's John Turturro in The Cut. The psychological sports thriller follows a former champion boxer in the aftermath of a career-ending defeat as he tries to regain his former glory. However, as his obsession to reach his former heights takes hold, reality starts to unravel and he might be spiralling into something much more terrifying. Balfe plays Caitlin Harney, the boxer's girlfriend who fears for him as he begins a brutal training regime with the uncompromising Boz (Turturro). Other cast members include The Wheel of Time's Claire Dunne, Here We Go star Ed Kear, Gary Beadle from A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, Oliver Trevena from Paradise City, and Emmerdale actor Andonis Anthony. Many rushed to the comment section to praise the film, with Bloom's former partner Katy Perry posting: 'The best movie!' A second person wrote: 'Gahhh Caitríona!!! This looks freaking amazing! Can't wait to see you in it!! [sic].' As a third added: 'Looking forward too see my favorit actress and storyteller Caitriona Balfe in her new movies the cut and Tenzing [sic].' A fourth fan commented: 'Thrilled for this and all of you! Cheering @caitrionabalfe on and the entire cast and crew!' As another added: ' @caitrionabalfe with the most expressive face. Excited to see her in this.' The Cut marks Balfe's latest role away from Outlander after she appeared in the thriller The Amateur earlier this year opposite Rami Malek. She is currently working on a very different project starring as Regency matriarch Mrs Dashwood in the upcoming Sense and Sensibility film, alongside Normal People's Daisy Edgar-Jones, Hanna star Esmé Creed-Miles, George MacKay from The Beast, Killing Eve's Fiona Shaw, and Harry Potter actor Frank Dillane. Balfe will also be appearing in the film Tenzing, which is in production. The eighth and final season of Outlander will be hitting screens in early 2026 after filming was completed in November 2024 and went into post-production. Both Balfe and Sam Heughan are now working on various new projects since completing work on Outlander. Although Outlander season eight is still a while off, prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood will be arriving this week to sate fans. The show follows the dual love stories of Jamie (Heughan) and Claire Fraser's parents. Much like the parent series, there will be time travel and romance among the Scottish Highlands for fans to enjoy.

UK accountancy firm buys Dublin-based MSD in foray into market
UK accountancy firm DHJ has acquired Dublin-based MSD Accountants in Dublin and plans to use it as a platform for buying other firms, as consolidation in the sector gathers pace. DHJ, which is backed by London private equity firm Tenzing, said that MSD will continue to be led by managing partner Richard Daly and head of assurance Brendan Murtagh. Swords-based MSD has 30 staff in total. 'The partnership also gives us the perfect platform to target more M&A activity in Ireland,' said DJH chief operating officer James Beardmore. DHJ has already carried out 15 acquisitions in the United Kingdom since it was set up four years ago. READ MORE The small- to mid-tier Irish accounting sector has seen a surge in deal making in the past three years as overseas firms, often backed by private equity money, seek to tap into the EU's fastest growing economy and the European base for a host of global tech and pharmaceutical groups. The attraction of private equity to the sector lies in the fact that much of accounting revenue is recurring, which makes it easier for private equity firms to fund borrowings in takeover transactions. For small domestic practices, the burdens of mounting regulation and compliance, technology costs and succession planning are also driving consolidation conversations in the sector. ETL Global, the German-based accounting group, entered the Irish market in early 2023 by acquiring 51 per cent of the Noone Casey practice in Dublin and has followed up with other deals. London-based Azets also purchased Baker Tilly Ireland the same year before rebranding the firm and securing other purchases. Elsewhere, Dains, a UK accountancy group backed by investment firm Horizons, acquired McInerney Saunders Chartered Accountants in Dublin early last year and has given the Irish firm a mandate to find follow-on deals. Other UK firms Moore Kingston Smith and AAB are also among overseas players that have been actively acquiring Irish businesses in recent times.

Somersaulting red panda dies at California zoo
A red panda known for his somersaults has died at the San Francisco Zoo. The panda, named Tenzing, recently started to experience 'intermittent neurological symptoms,' prompting the zoo's medical staff to take him in for observations. In a social media post announcing his death on Friday the zoo said he started to also exhibit balance issues and episodes became more frequent and lasted longer. After several imaging sessions and testing, staff discovered Tenzing had sarcocystosis, a parasitic infection that is common in red panders, zookeepers said. 'Despite receiving intensive medical care, Tenzing's condition deteriorated rapidly, and he passed peacefully under the care of his dedicated animal health team,' the post read. Tenzing first arrived at the zoo in 2014 as part of The Association of Zoos and Aquariums' Species Survival plan, specifically for red pandas - a rare and endangered species. The 'fan favorite' animal was best known for his 'playful somersaults and engaging personality,' as he was often featured in viral videos, the zoo wrote. 'His keepers recall his remarkable participation in his own healthcare, including voluntary behaviors like stepping onto a scale, entering a crate, and even holding a brush to create his signature watercolor paintings,' it went on. He was seen in pictures getting examined by a team of doctors in May as they reviewed his brain scans and placed him in the MRI machine. The life span of red pandas is between eight to 10 years in the wild. They are known to live up to 15 years 'under human care.' The zoo said: 'Tenzing lived a rich and full life and will be remembered for his spirited nature, his artistic flair, and his invaluable contribution to global conservation. 'Tenzing was more than an ambassador for this endangered species, he was family. Our entire team deeply feels his passing, but his legacy will live on in the vital conservation work he helped inspire.' Several of Tenzing's fans said their final goodbyes to him after the zoo announced his death. 'So sad. We loved seeing him on our many visits,' one said. 'Oh Tenzing. I'm so sorry you were sick. What an incredibly sad loss for your zoo family, the Red Panda family and all who loved you all around the world,' wrote another. Someone else commented: 'I'm Speechless. My deepest Condolences to everyone.' Red pandas are endangered species because they are often poached, or illegally hunted, and have experienced a habitat loss. Less than 10,000 remain in the world, according to the World Wildlife Fund. Nearly 50 per cent of the red panda's habitat is located in the Eastern Himalayas, but because of the loss of nesting trees and bamboo that they depend on, there is decline in the population. The creatures are often caught in traps meant for other wild animals like pigs and deer. Some are hunted for their distinctive, red pelts, or fur, in Myanmar and China, the website said.
