Three Terengganu officers remanded over RM25k bribery for building approvals
KUALA TERENGGANU: Three local authority officers in Terengganu have been remanded for six days over allegations of accepting bribes totalling RM25,000 to facilitate building plan approvals. The remand order, issued by Magistrate Yuhanis Mohd Roslan, follows an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). The suspects, two men and one woman aged between 40 and 50, were detained yesterday afternoon after giving statements at the Terengganu MACC office. A source revealed that the alleged offences occurred between 2015 and 2019, with bribes transferred into their personal bank accounts. 'Initial investigations found that the three suspects allegedly committed the offences between 2015 and 2019. They are believed to have received bribes amounting to about RM25,000 through separate fund transfers into their respective personal bank accounts,' the source said. The bribes were linked to 14 projects. The arrests follow a separate case in January involving a government agency director detained over a RM900,000 bribery scandal. Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the latest arrests, stating the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. Three local authority staff held over alleged RM25,000 graft in Terengganu
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested three local authority staff in Terengganu for allegedly accepting bribes amounting to RM25,000 in exchange for facilitating building plan approvals. The suspects, comprising two men and a woman in their 40s and 50s, were detained at 2.30pm yesterday when they turned up at the Terengganu MACC office to have their statements recorded. Magistrate Yuhanis Mohd Roslan granted a six-day remand order after the MACC filed an application at the Kuala Terengganu magistrate's court this morning. A source said the trio are believed to have committed the offences between 2015 and 2019. "They are suspected of receiving various sums totalling RM25,000, channelled into their personal bank accounts via fund transfers from a private company," the source said. The arrests were made following the detention of a government agency director in January over a separate RM900,000 graft case. Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. He said more arrests may follow as investigations progress.

Two policemen suspected of soliciting bribes remanded for one week
KUALA TERENGGANU: Two police personnel have been remanded for seven days starting today on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM5,000 in return for covering up gambling and drug activities. The remand order against the two male suspects, who are working at one of the Terengganu district police headquarters (IPD), was issued by Magistrate Mohd Zul Zakiqudin Zulkifli after granting an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). According to sources, initial investigations found that the first suspect, who is in his 50s, is believed to have solicited and accepted a bribe of RM3,000 from an individual around August last year in return for not taking action on gambling and narcotics offences. 'Meanwhile, the second suspect, who is in his 40s, was remanded on suspicion of soliciting and accepting a bribe of RM2,000 between December 2022 and May 2023 in order to avoid taking action on narcotics offences from an individual. 'Both suspects are suspected of receiving bribes in cash and transactions to their respective bank accounts,' he said. They were detained between 12.30 and 2 pm yesterday when they appeared to give statements at the Terengganu MACC office. Meanwhile, Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid when contacted confirmed the arrests and said the cases were being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
