Works Ministry to address key Kenyir route repairs
KUALA BERANG: The Works Ministry will hold a meeting with the Terengganu Public Works Department (PWD) to obtain feedback regarding the collapse of the Aring 8–Kenyir–Kuala Jeneris Road near Tasik Kenyir last November. Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said he would raise the issue at the post-Cabinet meeting scheduled for tomorrow. He said the road, which connects Cameron Highlands in Pahang, Perak, and Gua Musang in Kelantan to Terengganu, should be restored as soon as possible to facilitate the movement of residents who have been cut off since last year. "The repair cost is quite high, which is why it requires additional funding from the Economy Ministry and the Finance Ministry, so the process is taking some time. "If we receive the allocation, we will proceed with the repairs. We are currently seeking funding, and the process is ongoing. "We hope everyone will be patient, as the required allocation is substantial," he said at a press conference after visiting the Malaysian Construction Academy (ABM) East Region in Jenagor here today. It is understood that the repair cost for the road is estimated at RM36 million. Severe soil subsidence between Km187 and Km189 of Jalan Aring 8–Kenyir–Kuala Jeneris in Hulu Terengganu had forced the complete closure of the route to all vehicles.
