Scot raising funds for new video game after ‘GTA Paisley' viral success
A Renfrewshire man is seeking funds to develop a new video game after going viral on social media with a showcase of his Grand Theft Auto (GTA)-like project based on Paisley. Richard Gellatly has turned to the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter for his latest venture after the response to his last video 'exploded' on social media. Originally posted by his partner on TikTok, it gathered almost 400,000 views on the platform. 'The amount of people showing interest in making this happen made the choice obvious,' explained the 34-year-old graphic designer from Paisley. 'With this idea being quite a varied and dense one, it would take many years to make without funding, and with funding it would take many less.' Bovine Richard wants to make sure his project is as authentic and as detailed as possible. Bovine, Richard's professional pseudonym, is looking to crowdfund £12,000 that would enable him to spend more time working on the game and properly delve into things like developing the game's code, characters and story. The Crystal Garden is to be a mystery game that players progress through via puzzles and character interactions. The latest trailer shows the streets of Paisley shrouded in darkness on a wet night, with the game's description teasing a touch of the supernatural. While the Crystal Garden represents Bovine's maiden video game project, he hopes to rely on his rich experience in graphic design, with work for large music festivals such as TRNSMT and Terminal V on his resume. And although he admits that 'the internet liking your idea poses dangers of inflating one's ego beyond reality', he is trying to stay humble and realistic about his latest project. Bovine The latest trailer shows the streets of Paisley shrouded in darkness on a wet night, with the game's description teasing a touch of the supernatural. He added: 'I'm confident I can make something engaging that'll look good and resonate with people who know the area.' 'The player should feel relaxed and not like they are experiencing a modernity overdose – it'll be quite cosy and allow you to go at whatever pace you like.' Bovine hopes the campaign's success will allow him to make a game enjoyed by many, one that could turn into a 'series of Paisley games'. But he says a potential lack of funding won't stop him either. 'I'll keep working on it, but just at a slower rate, and it will not be the same end product,' he said. 'But I enjoy working on it far too much to just stop, regardless of it being funded or not.' However, several videos circulating on social media show dozens of audacious individuals breaching security barriers while a lone security guard looks on. In one clip, several youths are seen toppling a metal barrier and climbing over gates to access the venue without paying. In another video, a large group can be seen running across a field adjacent to the site near the capital's airport. Other footage captures boys and girls squeezing through a gap in the fencing as other festivalgoers film their actions on mobile phones. Organisers initially stated they were aware of "organised groups of fence jumpers" attempting to gain unauthorised entry, which they claimed had been "swiftly addressed." However, subsequent videos show young males, believed to be between the ages of 12 and 14, being carried on the shoulders of revellers during festival performances. Another short clip features two young boys dancing alongside adults in an outdoor area. Paying attendees spend nearly £150 for a weekend ticket to the popular techno event. The festival's licence was approved by council officials in March 2025, despite concerns raised over "noise and drug use". DJ Hannah Laing at BCM Magaluf Historically, arrests and drug-related incidents have occurred at the event, with Police Scotland making 21 arrests across the festival's two editions last year. Convicted killer Luke Mitchell's parole hearing pushed back after legal team request extra time
The parole hearing of convicted killer Luke Mitchell has been pushed back after his legal team asked for extra time to prepare - despite having over a year to do so. The 'official' Luke Mitchell Campaign confirmed on 'X' the hearing has been delayed at the request of Mitchell's representatives, sparking anger and frustration from those connected to the case, reports the Daily Record. The now 36-year-old was jailed for life in 2005 for the brutal murder of his 14-year-old girlfriend Jodi Jones in Dalkeith, but has always denied any involvement in her death. He was ordered to serve a minimum of 20 years in prison. READ MORE: Moment brazen Edinburgh youths without tickets leap fence at Terminal V festival READ MORE: 'I started an Edinburgh group to make friends and am gobsmacked at the result' A source close to the Jones family told the Daily Record: 'It's hard to believe that his legal team still aren't ready after all this time. 'For us, it just prolongs the agony. Every time a date is set and then changed, it brings everything back. But we're confident he won't be released and he shouldn't be.' Mitchell's supporters believe that he has little chance of parole unless he admits guilt- something he has disputed since the day of his arrest. One insider said: 'Luke won't say he did something he maintains he didn't do. But without that admission, it's hard to see the Parole Board letting him out.' Recently, Mitchell won the right to challenge a previous decision by the Parole Board and his legal team continue to claim that fresh evidence could clear his name. A new date for the rescheduled hearing has yet to be confirmed. After being found guilty of the murder of his 14-year-old girlfriend, the then 16-year-old Mitchell was sentenced to life in prison. The High Court of Edinburgh found him guilty of murdering his girlfriend in 2003. Jodi's lifeless body was found mutilated in the woods near her home. Jodi had failed to return home on the evening of June 30th, 2003, and Mitchell was the one who found her body and claimed his dog had led him there while out searching for her. The police described the murder as the most ruthless and gruesome in the history of Scotland, making it a high-profile case with significant media attention. Following a 10-month police investigation, Mitchell was charged with the murder. The prosecutor relied on evidence from Mitchell's brother, a passer-by, Jodi's family members and evidence collected by the police during Mitchell's interrogation. However, his legal team would later challenge the legality of the interrogation evidence during his appeals, claiming the 14-year-old was collected without the presence of a lawyer in contravention of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The accused lodged defences of alibi and incrimination, arguing that he was at home preparing dinner when his girlfriend was murdered. His mother corroborated his alibi, but the prosecutor challenged it based on his brother's statement, which revealed that the brother was at home watching pornography, something he wouldn't do if there were anyone else at home. Mitchell, who has always maintained his innocence, has made several Scottish appeals but failed to overturn his conviction. The first appeal was lodged in 2008 at the Court of Appeal in Edinburgh, but was refused. In 2011, his legal team filed a second appeal at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh, seeking to reduce the minimum term of his life sentence. The court rejected the argument that the 20-year minimum term ought to be reduced on the grounds that he was only 14 years old when he committed the crime. A three-judge bench heard the appeal, and the majority held that the 20-year minimum should remain, given the nature of the crime. The dissenting judge agreed that the minimum years for parole eligibility should have been reduced to 15 years. In 2022, Michael's legal team handed in a petition signed by more than 25,000 people calling for an independent inquiry into the police investigation of Mitchell's case, which they claim was flawed. The team collected 120 items of evidence that they alleged were never forensically tested. The petition came after a 2021 documentary entitled 'Murder in a Small Town' by Channel 5, which raised questions about the conviction and pointed to the possibility of a miscarriage of justice. He became eligible for parole in 2024. However, the Parole Board for Scotland rejected his first bid for freedom, stating that the board could not adequately assess risk. The decision to deny him parole was also influenced by a psychiatric report that labelled him a sexual risk to women. Moment brazen ticketless youths leap fence at Terminal V festival
Groups of ticketless youths leaped fences to gain entry to the techno music festival, while paying attendees forked out over £140 for a weekend ticket. Brazen groups of ticketless youth were captured clambering over fences to gain entry to a popular Scots music festival. Videos circulating on social media have shown youngsters climbing over fences at Terminal V, a two-day music festival known for its techno, hard dance, and trance music, which took place over the weekend at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh. In one clip, a lone security guard can be seen standing by metal fencing as several youths topple over while attempting to climb over, reports Edinburgh Live. A large crowd can then be seen running down a path and into the event while laughing and throwing their hands up. Another clip shows similar scenes unfolding with both boys and girls squeezing through a gap in the fencing as other concertgoers film them on their phones. A spokesperson for the festival confirmed they were made aware of "organised groups of fence jumpers" trying to gain access as local police and G4S security staff were drafted in. The youths appeared to flout the rules while paying attendees forked out over £140 for a weekend ticket to the techno music festival. A spokesperson from Terminal V said: "We witnessed some organised groups of fence jumpers trying to access this event without a ticket, over the festival weekend. However, this was swiftly addressed via a collaborative and effective response from Terminal V, G4S, Police Scotland and Royal Highland Centre." Police Scotland have been approached for a comment. In March, it was reported how organisers were awarded a licence by Edinburgh Council despite concerns about noise and drug taking at previous events. A Police Scotland representative said 21 arrests took place at the festival's two events last year, 18 of which were for possession of drugs with intent to distribute. A statement on the festival's website reads: "If you've attended Terminal V festival before, you'll know there is a zero tolerance approach to drugs. Terminal V work closely with Police Scotland and event Security/Safety to review and improve the already robust search/security measures we have in place. "These measures prevent the chance of organised crime and help make Terminal V a safe festival to attend. Anyone found in possession of drugs or selling drugs at Terminal V may face prosecution. Please don't ruin your day, we urge you not to bring or use illegal drugs at our festival. "If you decide to bring drugs to the festival and have a moment of clarity on your way in to the site, it's not too late. Use the AMNESTY BINS (a place you can safely dispose of any drugs, without getting into trouble) located before the queue and search lanes at the site entrance."
