Police: Five teens led deputies on multi-county chase, damaging numerous other vehicles

HOWELL TWP. — A group of teens allegedly led deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff's Office on a multi-county chase Wednesday, April 9, that resulted in numerous vehicles being damaged. Around 4:34 p.m. on eastbound I-96, deputies tried to stop a 2020 BMW X5 that had been reported stolen in Calhoun County. The car fled at a high rate of speed, then exited I-96 in Brighton before turning onto a dead-end street. According to a release from LCSO, the BMW struck a patrol car while trying to evade deputies, then got back on I-96, this time traveling west. Stop sticks were used multiple times during the pursuit, but were unsuccessful. While still in Livingston County, the BMW struck two other vehicles on I-96, police said. The pursuit entered Ingham County before ending in Lansing near the intersection of Cedar Street and Jolly Road, when the BMW crashed into multiple other vehicles. The BMW was disabled, so the five occupants exited and fled on foot. All were located and arrested. According to the release, the BMW was reportedly involved in multiple thefts Wednesday in neighboring communities. Officers reported seeing the suspects throwing two handguns out the window. Both were later recovered and identified as stolen firearms from other counties.
