UAE to grant 100,000 Pakistanis five-year visas this year – Sindh governor's office

KARACHI: The United Arab Emirates plans to issue five-year visas to 100,000 Pakistanis this year, according to an official statement released by authorities in Pakistan's Sindh province on Wednesday, following a visit by Governor Kamran Khan Tessori to the UAE consulate in Karachi. The governor's office and UAE authorities in Pakistan said this week all visa-related issues between the two countries had been resolved, and Pakistani nationals could now apply for five-year visas to the Emirates. The development came amid widespread reports in recent months of a decline in visa approvals for Pakistanis, allegedly due to violations of local laws and customs, as well as political sloganeering while abroad. Tessori visited the UAE consulate in Karachi on the invitation of UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi following a meeting between the two officials in Karachi on Monday. 'The governor of Sindh, Kamran Khan Tessori, was warmly welcomed by the UAE ambassador and consul general during his visit to the UAE consulate,' the Governor House said in a statement. 'The governor toured the visa center at the consulate, where the ambassador briefed him on the facility,' it added. 'Ambassador Hamad Obaid Al-Zaabi said 100,000 Pakistanis would be granted five-year visas. The consul general added that applicants would be treated with great respect at the visa center and receive full cooperation.' Earlier this week on Tuesday, the UAE consulate in Karachi issued a statement on the meeting between Tessori and Al-Zaabi. 'We love Pakistanis very much,' the statement quoted Consul General Bakheet Ateeq Al-Rumaithi as saying. 'Every person can apply for a UAE visa … Pakistani citizens can also apply for a UAE visa for work, medical treatment and other needs.' The UAE is home to more than a million Pakistani expatriates, making it the second-largest overseas Pakistani community globally and a major contributor to remittance inflows to Pakistan. Policymakers in Pakistan also view the UAE as an ideal export market due to its proximity, which reduces transportation and freight costs and facilitates smoother trade.

Pakistanis eligible for five-year visa to UAE — officials

KARACHI: A provincial governor in Pakistan and the UAE consulate in Karachi said this week visa issues between the two countries had been resolved and Pakistanis could now apply for five-year visas to the Emirates. There have been widespread reports in recent months of a decline in visa approvals by the UAE for Pakistanis and a decrease in overall employment opportunities for the South Asian country's nationals, allegedly due to their lack of respect for local laws and customs, as well as their participation in political activities and sloganeering while abroad. News that visa issues had been resolved first came on Monday from the office of the governor of Pakistan's Sindh province after he met UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi in Karachi. 'In a meeting with Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori, UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Al-Zaabi said that visa issues have been resolved, Pakistanis can get five-year visas,' Tessori's office said in a statement. On Tuesday, the UAE's consulate in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, also released a statement about the meeting between Al-Zaabi and Tessori, quoting the governor as saying Pakistanis could avail the five-year visa facility. 'We love Pakistanis very much,' the statement added, quoting Consul General Bakheet Ateeq Al-Rumaithi. 'Every person can apply for a UAE visa … Pakistani citizens can also apply for a UAE visa for work, medical treatment and other needs.' In February, Pakistani Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, had said several factors were contributing to Pakistanis' inability to obtain visas, including problems with documentation and criminal records of applicants. There are approximately 1.5 to 2 million Pakistanis living in the UAE, making them the second-largest expatriate group after Indians. The Gulf nation is also the second largest source of foreign remittances to Pakistan after Saudi Arabia.

Tessori has also invited the affected families to visit the Governor House on April 12, 2025, to discuss further plans and provide necessary support. Tessori made these remarks during a media interaction after expressing his condolences to the family of Nazar Abbas, a victim of a traffic accident, in the Yousuf Goth area of Surjani Town. The Governor assured the grieving family of justice and pledged to provide an 80-yard plot to the victim's family. In addition, he announced that the children of the deceased would be supported with their educational expenses and a monthly stipend. It is important to note that Nazar Abbas was left disabled in the traffic accident, while his wife tragically lost her life. Tessori further emphasized the neglect faced by Yousuf Goth, stating that the area suffers from a lack of infrastructure, including electricity, gas, and clean drinking water. Despite facing numerous hardships, the residents of this area have never abandoned their community. Tessori reiterated that he considers himself the brother of every oppressed individual in this city and assured them that Karachi is not an abandoned city; it belongs to its residents, and he stands by them. He added, 'Even without being in power, I have come to the house of my brother.' Give me the DIG for a week, I'll resign if a dumper crash happens: Governor Sindh

Listen to article Governor of Sindh, Kamran Khan Tessori, on Tuesday took a firm stance against Karachi's notorious dumper mafia, stating that if he is given authority over the DIG Karachi for just one week and a single dumper-related accident occurs, he will resign from his position. Addressing a public gathering in Hyderabad, Governor Kamran Tessori discussed various pressing issues and announced initiatives aimed at the city's development. He criticised the situation in Karachi, saying, 'The public has been misled, and now these dumpers are crushing our own children.' Tessori further claimed that if the Mayor of Karachi were placed under his supervision, the city's old roads could be restored immediately. The governor also suggested that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) should merge completely with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to bring greater political stability in Sindh. Reflecting on IT education in Hyderabad, he lamented the delay in completing courses. 'We conducted IT tests here months ago, but five months have passed and the courses remain incomplete. If I reveal the real reason, the whole of Hyderabad will take to the streets,' he remarked, adding that he is exercising patience. Tessori highlighted social welfare activities being held at the Governor House in Karachi, including daily Iftar dinners during Ramadan, where items such as plots, motorbikes, and Umrah tickets are distributed. He also shared that over 1 million ration bags and more than 12,000 laptops have been distributed so far, 'without taking a single rupee.' He thanked the people of Hyderabad for their warm welcome, calling their hospitality 'historic' and added, 'If the police ever harass you unnecessarily, just tell them the Governor is your brother—it will elevate your respect.' Speaking about looming challenges, Tessori warned that certain forces want Sindh's people to remain weak so they can 'take over.' 'Half the takeover has already happened—hasn't the municipal administration already been seized?' he asked. He concluded his speech by urging the people of Hyderabad to remain united and resilient, saying, 'Tougher times are coming, but together, we will face them.' Yesterday , a young couple, Abdul Qayum and his wife Zainab, were expecting their first child after Eidul Fitr but a driver speeding his water bowser ran over their motorcycle, killing the would-be parents and their unborn child near Malir Halt Flyover in Model Colony. The truck driver dragged the bike under his vehicle killing Qayum on the spot. Zainab, lying in a pool of blood, in her death throes, gave birth to a child, who also died later. Witnesses described the accident as horrifying, with onlookers screaming in shock. A video clip surfaced on social media, showing a passerby attempting to save the newborn's life by rushing it to a hospital. This deadly crash brings the total number of traffic accident fatalities in the city so far this year to 214. Heavy vehicles have claimed 68 lives in 83 days, including 17 from dumper collisions, 24 from trailer collisions, 14 from water tanker collisions, five from Mazda-truck collisions, and eight from bus collisions.
