Compensation for rain-hit traders urged
The Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori has assured the rain hit traders and citizens of Hyderabad that the government will try to compensate their losses. Tessori, who visited several localities of Hyderabad on Saturday before addressing a press conference at a hotel, proposed that both the federal and provincial governments should reimburse the affected people of Hyderabad. "One thing is certain the traders and even the ordinary citizens have suffered financial losses," the Governor emphasised. He further asserted that compensation has become indispensable so that the affected traders, especially those who have suffered serious losses may resume their trade. He observed that the two ways of compensation include one by the provincial government and the other by the centre. Governor Tessori said a federal committee comprising MNAs and a provincial committee comprising MPAs should be constituted to assess the losses and decide the amount of compensation. According to him, the tax waivers by the two governments can also be made a means to reimburse the losses. He advised the rain-hit people to submit details of their losses to the federal government through their elected Members of the National Assembly (MNAs). The Gvernor assured that he will make every effort to secure the federal tax waivers. He said an Additional Secretary will be appointed to facilitate coordination between the traders' community and the federal government to address the civic issues. The governor apprised that the centre had announced a Rs10 billion development package for Hyderabad, adding that half of that allocation has already been disbursed. Tessori announced the establishment of an information technology institute in Hyderabad which he expected will benefit over 50,000 students. He told that governor house funded IT courses will also commence within the next two months in Hyderabad.

Governor visits site of Lyari building collapse
KARACHI: Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, visited the site of the tragic building collapse in Baghdadi, Lyari, describing the incident as one that defies adequate condemnation. 'While the world continues to move forward, this calamity struck, leaving no one the chance to recover,' he remarked. Tessori praised the Sindh government's swift actions, including the removal of the director general, but stressed that simply changing personnel will not resolve systemic issues. He called for an investigation into the factors leading to the collapse, specifically regarding the building's construction timeline and approval process. The governor emphasized his commitment to ensuring justice for the victims without politicizing the matter. He highlighted the presence of many substandard buildings on 80-square-yard plots around the city, all of which will undergo reassessment. Additionally, he announced the launch of a helpline, '1133,' at the Governor House, assuring that residents of buildings deemed dangerous will receive alternative plots of the same size. Tessori noted with regret that most of the deceased were from the Hindu community and instructed the Sindh Building Control Authority's DG to conduct an immediate survey of all dilapidated structures in the city. 'This city does not belong to orphans; Lyari belongs to everyone,' he affirmed. He also pledged to create job opportunities for those affected, stating, 'I've spoken to the builder; we will reach out to more builders for those who register. The doors of the Governor House are open to all.' In a related development, residents near the collapsed Junaid Arcade protested, alleging they have been prohibited from returning to their homes for four days, despite being told by the administration to evacuate for only one hour. Many affected families are currently staying with relatives. Governor Tessori remarked that the gap between one building's collapse and the subsequent construction reflects a failure of the system. He concluded, 'I have always advocated for system reform, and my voice will grow louder.'

UAE to grant 100,000 Pakistanis five-year visas this year – Sindh governor's office
KARACHI: The United Arab Emirates plans to issue five-year visas to 100,000 Pakistanis this year, according to an official statement released by authorities in Pakistan's Sindh province on Wednesday, following a visit by Governor Kamran Khan Tessori to the UAE consulate in Karachi. The governor's office and UAE authorities in Pakistan said this week all visa-related issues between the two countries had been resolved, and Pakistani nationals could now apply for five-year visas to the Emirates. The development came amid widespread reports in recent months of a decline in visa approvals for Pakistanis, allegedly due to violations of local laws and customs, as well as political sloganeering while abroad. Tessori visited the UAE consulate in Karachi on the invitation of UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi following a meeting between the two officials in Karachi on Monday. 'The governor of Sindh, Kamran Khan Tessori, was warmly welcomed by the UAE ambassador and consul general during his visit to the UAE consulate,' the Governor House said in a statement. 'The governor toured the visa center at the consulate, where the ambassador briefed him on the facility,' it added. 'Ambassador Hamad Obaid Al-Zaabi said 100,000 Pakistanis would be granted five-year visas. The consul general added that applicants would be treated with great respect at the visa center and receive full cooperation.' Earlier this week on Tuesday, the UAE consulate in Karachi issued a statement on the meeting between Tessori and Al-Zaabi. 'We love Pakistanis very much,' the statement quoted Consul General Bakheet Ateeq Al-Rumaithi as saying. 'Every person can apply for a UAE visa … Pakistani citizens can also apply for a UAE visa for work, medical treatment and other needs.' The UAE is home to more than a million Pakistani expatriates, making it the second-largest overseas Pakistani community globally and a major contributor to remittance inflows to Pakistan. Policymakers in Pakistan also view the UAE as an ideal export market due to its proximity, which reduces transportation and freight costs and facilitates smoother trade.
