The big fast bowler snaring 36 wickets at 29.78 and in the process became the fifth South African bowler to join the 300-wicket club in Tests. His strike rate of 39.2, is the best among all the world's bowlers who have achieved this milestone. Pant unfazed by threat from returning England pacer

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant believes India are in a strong position heading into the third Test against England at Lord's, emphasising the importance of continuing to stick to plans, despite the quick turnaround after their commanding win at Edgbaston. India head into the Lord's Test with a 1-1 series scoreline and all the momentum, following a dominant 336-run victory in the second Test in Birmingham. While the short gap between matches might pose a challenge, Pant sees it as a potential advantage. 'Definitely it's a short turnaround, but like you said, when you have momentum in your side, you want that short turnaround,' said Pant on the eve of the third Test. 'We are not thinking about it too much. It's good for us to have the momentum, but eventually you've got to play good cricket. This team will play better, and will win eventually.' Pant remained tight-lipped about India's bowling combination for Lord's, with the team weighing up whether to go with three pacers and a spinner, or add an extra spinner to the mix. 'I think the option is still open. Discussions are still going on. 'Whether it's 3-1 or 3-2, we'll know by tomorrow. Because sometimes in two days, the wicket changes colour, the moisture becomes less. We'll take a final call based on how we think the pitch will play.' India opted for a lone spinner in Ravindra Jadeja in the first Test, before bringing in Washington Sundar for the second at Edgbaston, with the team also favouring Nitish Kumar Reddy over Shardul Thakur. Jasprit Bumrah on winning the ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year award | ICC Awards 2024 Jasprit Bumrah revels in winning the ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year award | ICC Awards 2024 Diving further, Pant heaped praise on ICC No.1 ranked Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who put on a clinical show in the first Test and sat out the second Test to manage workload and is in contention to start at Lord's. 'I think everything - how accurate he is, the way his mind works - he's just an amazing man,' Pant said. 'That late movement he gets is especially difficult. I think it's more challenging for the wicketkeeper than the batsman, especially in England.' To spice things up, England have included Jofra Archer in their playing XI for the third Test against India at Lord's. This marks Archer's first Test appearance in more than four years, and Pant welcomed Archer's return to the red-ball format. 'Personally, whenever I step on the field, I enjoy my cricket and give my 200%. It's not particularly about any individual. Yes, it's going to be a good contest because he's coming back after a long break. I'm happy he's back.' The fiery quick has returned commanding numbers in the longest format, snapping 42 wickets in 13 contests and returning three five-wicket hauls. Pant also shed light on the unpredictable nature of the Dukes ball in this series, which has tested both batters and wicketkeepers with its inconsistent behaviour. 'It's definitely irritating for the players. Every ball plays differently. 'When it becomes softer, it doesn't do too much, but as soon as it's changed, it starts doing a lot again. So as a batsman, you've got to keep adjusting constantly.' The two sides square off in the third Test at Lords, beginning Thursday, 10th July. ICC World Test Championship, 2025/27NewsRishabh Pant

More change in top 10 as Test Batter Ranking race tightens

Further recognition has come for Rishabh Pant after the India star rose to a new career-best rating on the latest ICC Men's Test Batter Rankings . Pant earns a career-high mark on the back of twin centuries for India during the opening Test of the ongoing series against England away from home. The 27-year-old showed his class with innings of 134 and 118 as India fell to a five-wicket loss and in the process gained one spot to move to sixth overall on the latest rankings for Test batters. It is one spot shy of the career-high ranking of five that Pant held during this corresponding period in 2022, but his overall rating of 801 points is a new best and has the keeper within 88 points of No.1 ranked batter Joe Root. The ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year: Joe Root Joe Root was crowned ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year in 2021 Root maintains his narrow advantage at the top after scores of 28 and 53 not out during the Headingley contest, with teammate and No.2 ranked batter Harry Brook 15 rating points behind his more senior teammate. England opener Ben Duckett also improves to a new career-high rating in eighth place on the batter rankings following his match-winning innings of 149 in the second innings of the Leeds Test, while there are further movements inside the top 20 following the completion of two other Test matches around the world. Australia defeated the West Indies by 159 runs in the opening Test in Barbados , with left-hander Travis head gaining three places to move to 10th overall on the list for Test batters after a pair of half-centuries during the hard-fought contest on Kensington Oval. Sri Lanka also clinched an emphatic victory over Bangladesh in Colombo, with Pathum Nissanka the big winner on the rankings as the right-hander rises 14 places to 17th overall for Test batters following his innings of 158. There are gains for Sri Lankan teammate Kusal Mendis (up four places to 30th), while impressive South African youngster Lhuan-dre Pretorius enters the batter rankings at 68th following his century against Zimbabwe. India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah remains at the top of the rankings for Test bowlers following his five-wicket haul against England at Headingley, with Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood the big mover inside the top 10 as the right-armer gains one place to fourth overall. West Indies quick Jayden Seales also gains a spot to move to ninth overall on the same list, while Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya earns a one-place rise to improve to equal 14th following his own five-wicket haul in the second innings against Bangladesh. India spinner Ravindra Jadeja stays at the top of the rankings for Test all-rounders despite a modest output against England, while a pair of South Africans are rewarded following strong efforts against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. Wiaan Mulder gains seven spots to improve to equal 15th after a century against Zimbabwe, while teammate Corbin Bosch jumps a whopping 42 places to move to 19th overall following his own hundred in the same match.

Bumrah is ICC Test Cricketer of the Year

DUBAI: Jasprit Bumrah was named the ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year for 2024 after the India pace spearhead produced his best annual haul in the red-ball format, the sport's governing body said on Monday. The 31-year-old seam-bowling genius topped the wicket-taking charts in test cricket last year with 71 from 13 matches, 19 more than second-placed Gus Atkinson of England (in 11 games), having returned from a back injury in late 2023. Despite being on the losing side in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, Bumrah finished the five-match test series, which concluded earlier in January, with 32 wickets at an average of 13.06 and was the obvious choice for the Player of the Series award. "His (Bumrah) average across the year was a ridiculous 14.92, and he ended 2024 with an annual strike rate of just 30.1," ICC said in a statement. "Across test history, none of the 17 bowlers to have taken 70+ wickets in a calendar year did so at an average as low as Bumrah's." Bumrah beat England duo Harry Brook and Joe Root as well as Kamindu Mendis of Sri Lanka to win the prestigious award. The last Indian cricketer to win it was batter Virat Kohli in 2018. "I am deeply honoured to receive the ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year award. Test cricket has always been a format I hold close to my heart, and to be recognised on this platform is truly special," Bumrah said. "This award is not just a reflection of my individual efforts but also of the unwavering support of my teammates, coaches, and fans who continue to believe and inspire me every day. "Representing India is a privilege I deeply cherish, and knowing my efforts bring smiles to people around the world makes this journey even more special."
