Panola College gets more than $250,000 for nursing program

CARTHAGE Texas (KETK)- Panola College has received a $255,633 grant to go towards the school's associate degree nursing program. Man loses all belongings after home catches fire in Payne Springs The college was awarded the Nursing Shortage Reduction Program (NSRP) grant by the Texas High Education Coordinating Board. The board awards these grants to create more skilled nurses as a way to address the nursing shortage in Texas. The grant was coauthored by chair of Panola College's nursing program Annissa JacksonJackson and Natalie Oswalt, their dean of career and technical programs. Panola College's nursing program will use the funds to provide a second spring entry way for students who are applying for the LVN-RN 1-year transition track. The second entry will provide more students the chance to be admitted into the program for face-to-face learning opportunities. Spring forward? Maybe not in Texas as lawmakers mull ending daylight saving time Annissa Jackson, the chair of nursing programs spoke about how much this grant means to the program and how she will be able utilize the grant to benefit nursing students. 'The addition of a spring start for the track will provide an additional opportunity for students to progress their nursing education and provide an increased number of Associate Degree Nursing graduates in the East Texas area,' Jackson said.
