Patrick Mahomes Reacts to Major Texas Tech Announcement on Sunday
Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has had a busy offseason since we last saw him on the field in Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles. Over the past two weeks, he was officially inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame—a moment he celebrated alongside his wife Brittany and the rest of his family. Just this past weekend, he hosted an event for his foundation, which included plenty of golf and community engagement. Advertisement Despite the packed schedule, Mahomes has stayed tuned in to the sports world. On Sunday, he reacted quickly to major news out of his alma mater, Texas Tech. The Red Raiders women's softball team clinched a spot in the Super Regionals after a dominant performance and a thrilling 9–6 victory over Mississippi State. Mahomes celebrated the milestone with a clear two-word message as he retweeted Texas Tech's post on social media. "Let's go!!!!" Mahomes reacted. Mahomes attended Texas Tech University from 2014 to 2016, serving as the Red Raiders' starting quarterback for three seasons before declaring for the NFL draft, where he was selected 10th overall. Since then, he has remained closely connected to Texas Tech athletics and proudly true to his Texas roots. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes at a Texas Tech Raiders basketball game on Feb. 24, C. They were led by standout pitcher Nijaree Canady, who carried a heavy load in the circle. She threw an incredible 111 pitches over five innings, allowing just three earned runs on eight hits while striking out four. With Canady needing support at the plate, the offense came through in a big way. Texas Tech jumped out to a 4–0 lead early. After a strong push from Mississippi State, the Red Raiders held an 8–6 cushion before adding an insurance run to close out the win. Hailey Toney was the clear player of the game, launching two home runs in the victory. With the win, Texas Tech advances to face No. 5 seed Florida State in a best-of-three Super Regional next weekend. Related: Deion Sanders Makes Big Personal Announcement on Sunday

'When you go around the league, all I brag about is Texas high school football and how much it means,' Mahomes said, via KRQE News. 'People talk about the players that come out of different states but they don't know how much it means to be in Texas high school football and I think it's a special place to be at.' Mahomes - who called football his 'last sport' after spending much of his childhood playing baseball and basketball - admitted he 'never thought' he would make it to the pros. His wife Brittany was on hand to help him make a special announcement on Saturday 'My goal growing up was to win a district championship in Whitehouse, Texas,' he said. The quarterback, 29, also announced during his speech that he and Adidas were partnering to create custom jerseys for 15 different high schools around the country. Of course, that list included his old school Whitehouse, and Brittany handed him one of the new jerseys as he was onstage. Mahomes was one of nine inductees from this year's class, which also included 2013 NFL Rookie of the Year Robert Griffin III. Griffin starred in high school at Copperas Cove before going on to play collegiately at Baylor. Mahomes, meanwhile, also stayed in Texas during college as he played for Texas Tech.
