Egyptian Photographer Captures Qatar National Museum in Monochrome

Based in Kuwait, Thabet was announced as the winner of the 2nd prize in the architecture category at Paris Photo Awards. Kuwait-based Egyptian photographer Ahmed Thabet clinched the 2nd prize in the architecture category at Prix De La Photographie Paris by capturing the exterior of Qatar National Museum, which was designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel. Finding solace in photography, Thabet - a pediatrician by profession - procured his first camera to capture the innocence of his child, and quickly grew an award-winning portfolio. The architectural marvel in Qatar, with its desert rose form, became one of the latest muses for Thabet's artistic vision. The Qatar National Museum, an elliptical circuit around a central court known as the 'Howsh', serves as a fusion of culture and climate in Qatar. Thabet's lens brings to life the shadows that dance around the museum's sand-coloured concrete cladding. Thabet's abstract monochrome photography transforms the museum's interlocking disks, varying curvatures and large openings into an architectural symphony. Transcending the mere representation of a building, the juxtaposition of light and shadow in the architecture - accentuated by the photography - invites the eye to journey through the design. The abstraction elevates the museum's architecture, offering a glimpse into the soul of this cultural gem.

Abu Dhabi's state-owned utility TAQA targets US energy sector expansion

The Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) is exploring acquisition opportunities in the US and other regions to expand its international presence and meet its growth targets, as reported by Reuters. ADPower, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund ADQ, holds a little over 90% of TAQA, which has been diversifying its investments in various markets, including the US. CEO Jasim Husain Thabet stated: "If the right opportunity presents itself for TAQA, we would be pursuing that." In 2024, TAQA's Masdar unit acquired a 50% stake in US renewable energy company Terra-Gen. The UAE has recently announced plans to increase its energy investments in the US to $440bn by 2034, aligning with US President Donald Trump's objectives to secure significant business agreements during his May 2025 Gulf tour. TAQA has outlined a strategy to invest $20bn between 2023 and 2030 in both organic and inorganic growth, to expand its capacity to 150GW from the current 56GW. Thabet expressed a preference for acquiring fully integrated companies that include generation, networks and a growth pipeline. While TAQA is monitoring potential investment opportunities in Syria following the lifting of US sanctions, Thabet considers it too early to commit but remains watchful of the evolving situation. Following a successful bond sale in October 2024 which raised $1.75bn, TAQA is not in immediate need of additional debt but may consider market options if a significant merger and acquisition (M&A) deal arises. Contrary to a news report from March 2025, Thabet confirmed that TAQA has not engaged in discussions with shareholders of Spanish utility Naturgy about acquiring a stake, following abandoned talks in summer 2024. Thabet did not give details of the reasons for the breakdown of negotiations with investor Criteria over its 26.7% stake in Naturgy. In April 2024, TAQA acquired Transmission Investment, a UK-based electricity transmission development and services company, to expand its presence in the offshore electricity transmission sector. Tunisia weaves Its way Into major European markets as textile powerhouse

Tunisia has solidified its position as the 9th largest apparel supplier to the EU, with textiles accounting for 16% of national industrial exports (worth TND 9 billion in 2024) and achieving a 127% coverage rate, said Industry Minister Fatma Thabet Chiboub. Speaking at the 'Tunisian-European Textile Summit' in Monastir, Thabet added that the textile sector accounts for 29% of industrial employment, with more than 150,000 jobs, and includes 1,400 industrial companies, i.e. 31% of the total number of industrial companies. The Industry Minister took the opportunity to underline the importance of this event, which will help to further strengthen the Euro-Mediterranean partnership to ensure a sustainable, innovative and environmentally responsible textile industry. She was briefed on the components of the Global Textiles and Clothing Programme (GTEX/MENATEX), implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and financed by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), which aims to strengthen the export competitiveness of the textile and clothing sector in 5 countries, including Tunisia. According to data recently published by the Textile Technical Centre (Cettex), Tunisia has a great opportunity to develop exports of jeans and workwear, particularly to Germany and traditional markets. This opportunity could lead to an increase in exports of around 160 million euros and create more than 25,000 jobs. In this context, the Centre believes that the development of Tunisian clothing exports requires greater technical and financial support to assist SMEs in their sustainable and digital transition to comply with European regulations and the rapid transition to the application of simple transformation quotas benefiting from rules of origin. This also requires personalised support for new investors wishing to set up in Tunisia, diplomatic and economic support to promote Tunisia as a location, and the implementation of a specific promotion plan for each market with measures to support operators in the sector. Tunisia is the fourth largest supplier of denim trousers to the EU, with a market share of 8.63% in 2021 compared to 8.46% in 2020, but the analysis of its market positioning shows that there is still room for improvement. It has confirmed its expertise and competitiveness in this flagship product for the sector, according to the same source. In fact, Tunisia will export 17.76 million units of jeans to the EU in 2021, worth 322 million euros, representing a 14% increase in units compared to 2020. EU imports of jeans totalled 438 million units in 2021, with an average price of 8.53 euros. In fact, one in three trousers imported by EU countries is a pair of jeans, compared to one in four 11 years ago. The European jeans market is extremely buoyant, but hyper-competitive,' says the centre. However, Tunisia has the highest average unit price of jeans in the EU at around €18.14, which will increase by 0.22% in 2021 compared to 2020 and by 3.93% compared to 2019(…).

Egypt - Q Developments held its 2025 annual event to highlight recent achievements, investment strategies, sales performance, and expansion plans for the coming year. In March 2024, Q Developments secured major global partnerships, signing an agreement with Crystal Lagoons to develop waterfront features at Q North and partnering with Accor Hotels to manage the project's hotel under the Novotel brand—marking Novotel's debut on Egypt's North Coast. Expanding further, Q Developments announced its first project in New Zayed, Q Hills, during a press conference in November 2024. The company also achieved a significant milestone in December 2024, delivering Q San Stefano ahead of schedule. As of January 2025, construction at Q North remains ahead of schedule, with over 3,000 working hours completed. The company has already finished 45% of the first phase's concrete structure, 40% of foundation waterproofing, 35% of masonry work, and 25% of plastering. This rapid progress positions Q Developments to deliver fully furnished and finished units to customers ahead of schedule.
