Rockies beat Marlins 6-4

Hunter Goodman homered twice, including a go-ahead two-run shot in the fifth inning, and the Colorado Rockies beat the Miami Marlins 6-4 on Monday night to snap their fourth eight-game losing streak of the season. It was the 10th win against 50 losses for the Rockies, who had already wrapped up the worst 60-game start in the modern era (since 1901). The 1904 Washington Senators and 1932 Boston Red Sox both opened 11-49. Goodman had a two-out single in the first off Max Meyer, and Thairo Estrada followed with an RBI double to give Colorado the lead. Goodman was charged with an error in the bottom half when he dropped a throw at home plate, allowing the tying run to score. Otto Lopez added an RBI single off Germán Márquez, and a sacrifice fly by Eric Wagaman gave Miami a 3-1 lead. Jesús Sánchez's run-scoring double made it 4-1 in the second. Goodman homered in the third, and Tyler Freeman's two-out RBI single in the fourth got the Rockies within a run. Ezequiel Tovar singled leading off the fifth and Goodman followed with his ninth homer for a 5-4 advantage. Keston Hiura doubled leading off the ninth for his first hit with Colorado, and Sam Hilliard's one-out double drove in an insurance run. Márquez (2-7) allowed four runs — three earned — and nine hits in five innings. Jake Bird, Tyler Kinley and Seth Halvorsen each pitched a scoreless inning before Zach Agnos worked the ninth for his fourth save. Meyer (3-5) gave up five runs — four earned — and 10 hits in five innings. Miami has lost three of four to begin a six-game homestand. Sánchez singled leading off the ninth for Miami (23-35) before he was forced out at second on a pop fly by Agustín Ramírez that dropped in front of Freeman in right field. Agnos got Kyle Stowers to hit into a game-ending double play two pitches later. Goodman, a third-year catcher, leads Colorado in home runs and RBIs (34). Marlins RHP Sandy Alcantara (2-7, 8.47 ERA) starts the middle game of the series Tuesday. The Rockies hadn't announced a scheduled starter.

Thairo Estrada activated from 60-day IL to make Rockies debut

NEW YORK (AP) — Second baseman Thairo Estrada was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Friday and immediately inserted into the cleanup spot for his Colorado Rockies debut against the New York Mets. Estrada had been sidelined all season with a broken right wrist. He batted .304 (7 for 23) in five rehab games with Triple-A Albuquerque. Interim manager Warren Schaeffer thinks Estrada can provide a boost for a reeling team that was 9-47 — the worst record through 56 games of any major league club in the modern era (since 1901). 'I think it's going to be a big addition,' Schaeffer said. 'I mean, everyday second baseman. Got a lot of big league experience. The way he plays the game — hard. He takes everything seriously. He loves baseball.' The 29-year-old Estrada is a .251 career hitter with 48 home runs, 52 stolen bases and a .694 OPS in six major league seasons. He broke into the big leagues with the New York Yankees in 2019 and spent the past four years with San Francisco. A right-handed hitter, Estrada was set to bat fourth against Mets left-hander David Peterson in the opener of a three-game series at Citi Field. 'It fits there today against a left-hander,' Schaeffer said. 'Thairo's a professional hitter. For me, you can hit him anywhere in the lineup.' In another roster move, the Rockies selected the contract of outfielder Sam Hilliard from Albuquerque and he was available off the bench. Colorado outfielder Nick Martini was designated for assignment. The club optioned infielder Adael Amador to Triple-A on Thursday. 'Just shaking things up a little bit,' Schaeffer said. 'Sam brings speed. Sam brings a solid glove in the outfield. My style of baseball is putting the ball in play and running, and being aggressive.' Estrada signed a $4 million, one-year contract with Colorado in January. He has a $3.25 million salary this year and the deal includes a $7 million mutual option for 2026 with a $750,000 buyout. His wrist was broken during a spring training game in March when he was hit by a 97 mph sinker from Texas Rangers right-hander Kumar Rocker. ___ AP MLB:

Rockies add OF Sam Hilliard, INF Thairo Estrada to roster

May 30 - The Colorado Rockies purchased the contract of veteran outfielder Sam Hilliard from Triple-A Albuquerque and reinstated infielder Thairo Estrada from the 60-day injured list on Friday. In corresponding moves, outfielder Nick Martini was designated for assignment and infielder Adael Amador was optioned to Triple-A. Hilliard, 31, is set to appear in the major leagues for the first time this season. He batted .239 with 10 home runs for Colorado last season and is a career .219 hitter with 42 home runs and 104 RBIs in 312 games over six seasons with the Rockies and Atlanta Braves (2023). Estrada, 29, fractured his right wrist during spring training. He is a career .251 hitter with 48 home runs and 195 RBIs in 469 games over six seasons with the New York Yankees (2019-20) and San Francisco Giants (2021-24). Martini, 34, was batting .225 with one home run and four RBIs in 43 games during his first season in Colorado. Amador, 22, was batting .146 with one home run and five RBIs in 33 games with the Rockies. --Field Level Media

Disabled craftsmen make batik bags for Asean 2025

This afternoon, the Colorado Rockies announced a series of roster moves: The promotion of Carson Palmquist (No. 9 PuRP) was not unexpected based on reporting yesterday from Thomas Harding. The return of infielders Tyler Freeman (oblique injury), Aaron Schunk (groin injury), and Ezequiel Tovar (hip injury) moves the Rockies closer to becoming the team they had hoped to be when the 2025 season opened though Thairo Estrada continues to recover from a wrist injury. Sean Bouchard and Anthony Molina both return to Albuquerque. In 72 plate appearances, Bouchard is slashing .169/.250/.246 (29 wRC+). Molina, meanwhile, was brought into relieve an exhausted bullpen. He has pitched one inning for the Rockies. Owen Miller and Alan Trejo were designated for assignment. During the offseason, the Rockies traded for Miller from the Milwaukee Brewers. In 17 plate appearances, he has slashed .143/.294/.143 (29 wRC+). Trejo is familiar to Rockies fans. The Rockies traded for him with the Texas Rangers when their inventory of middle infielders was completely depleted. Since returning to the Rockies, Trejo has slashed .175/.190/.225 (-2 wRC+). Notably, second baseman Adael Amador will remain with the Rockies, presumably until Thairo Estrada has fully recovered. The Rockies have one open spot on the 40-man roster. ★ ★ ★ Please keep in mind our Purple Row Community Guidelines when you're commenting. Thanks!
