40 people freed from bonded labour in Andhra Pradesh
ONGOLE: In a significant rescue operation, Prakasam district authorities, alongside police and NGO representatives, freed 40 individuals from bonded labour at two shrimp farms near Ananthavaram village of Tanguturu mandal. The rescued group comprised 17 individuals from Odisha and 23 from Chhattisgarh, including 11 women and a minor. The operation, conducted over the weekend, targeted Golden Aqua Farm and Ram Brothers Aqua Farm, with raids in Tanguturu, Pakaala, and Pasukuduru areas. Cases have been filed against the farm managements under the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, and Minimum Wages Act. Prakasam Collector Thameem Ansariya issued relief certificates to the labourers and ensured their safe return to their native states, coordinating with officials from Odisha and Chhattisgarh. The rescued workers were initially moved to a relief centre in Ongole after their statements were recorded at the Tanguturu PS. The labourers, trafficked from vulnerable tribal and rural communities in Koraput and Malkangiri in Odisha, and Bastar, Dantewada, and Kanker in Chhattisgarh, were subjected to inhumane conditions. They were lured with a Rs 15,000 advance via UPI and promises of decent jobs, and faced exploitation upon arrival.

State govt aims for poverty-free society by 2029
Giddalur, (Prakasam Dist): Prakasamdistrict collector A Thameem Ansariya stated that the Andhra Pradesh government has launched the P4 (Public, Private, People, Partnership) programme with the ambitious goal of establishing a poverty-free society by 2029. Collector Thameem Ansariya, alongside local MLA Muthumula Ashok Reddy, participated in a constituency-level awareness meeting on P4 in Giddalur on Tuesday. The session, attended by officials, village secretariat staff, and mentors, focused on the programme's objectives. Speaking at the meeting, the collector emphasised that P4 aims to eliminate inequality by fostering connections between economically strong individuals and underprivileged families. She explained that the initiative seeks to create a society where all citizens can live as 'wealthy, healthy, and happy.' The collector elaborated that through a comprehensive survey, the government has identified families requiring economic and social development as 'Bangaru Kutumbalu' while capable individuals are registered as mentors. She announced that 74,911 Golden Families have been identified across the district, with 34,000 already adopted by mentors. She stressed that participation in the programme is entirely voluntary, with no coercion involved. MLA Ashok Reddy highlighted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Konidela Pawan Kalyan, the state is committed to comprehensive development through poverty eradication and economic equality. In the Giddaluru constituency, 5,868 out of 10,879 identified Golden Families have been adopted, leaving 5,011 families still requiring mentors. ZP CEO Chiranjeevi provided an overview of the program's objectives, and several mentors shared their experiences. The event saw participation from officials across six mandals within the constituency.

Improve infrastructure in ST colonies, Collector tells officials in Andhra
ONGOLE: Prakasam Collector Thameem Ansariya emphasised the urgent need to improve infrastructure in all Scheduled Tribe habitations, especially those under the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) limits. She directed officials to prioritise essential facilities and ensure swift implementation of welfare schemes. During a special review meeting held at the Collectorate on Tuesday, the Collector assessed the progress of various tribal welfare initiatives, including PM Jan Man and Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA). She instructed ITDA officials to coordinate with other departments to provide road connectivity, electricity, drinking water, Anganwadi centers, domestic gas connections, mobile medical units, and telecom infrastructure in tribal villages. The Collector stressed the importance of regular monitoring and field-level supervision of housing schemes. Officers were asked to prepare village-wise action plans to expedite construction, ensuring beneficiaries complete works promptly to facilitate bill clearance. She assured that government funds are ready for release and urged officials to resolve technical issues soon.

Awareness key to combat drug abuse: Collector
Ongole: Prakasam district collector A Thameem Ansariya emphasised that creating awareness among everyone is the only effective way to prevent narcotic drugs and intoxicating substances in the district. She directed the officials to not only explain the harmful effects of drug use on a large scale, but also to implement stringent measures for complete control throughout the district. The District Level Narcotics Control Coordination Committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Collector Thameem Ansariya, at the collectorate on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the collector suggested that all government departments should work in coordination to completely eradicate drugs in the district. She asked the authorities to conduct awareness programmes in every educational institution. She directed that Eagle Clubs be established in all government and private educational institutions by the next academic year. The collector ordered drug control officers to jointly inspect medicine shops and recommended enhanced surveillance and more effective measures to prevent drug use and transportation. She called for widespread publicity of the toll-free number 1972, which has been set up for filing complaints. Addressing the meeting, District SP AR Damodar detailed the measures taken to curb intoxicants and narcotics in the district. He clarified that no cannabis cultivation is taking place in the district, though transportation through the district continues, which they are working to prevent. He cited the number of registered cases as evidence of their enforcement efforts. He mentioned that 283 individuals have been identified recently in connection with drug use and supply. He said Eagle Teams and drop boxes are being set up in colleges, and emphasised the need to strengthen the de-addiction centre in the district. He also called for special supervision of government and private hostels to prevent drug use, and suggested installing posters about anti-drug measures in schools, colleges, hostels, and medical institutions. Additional SP Nageswar Rao, Markapur Sub-Collector Sahadhith Venkat Trivinag, DRO Chinna Obulesu, RDO Lakshmi Prasanna, GGH Superintendent Dr Jamuna, Medical College Principal Dr Edukondalu, DD Social Welfare Lakshma Nayak, and officials from related departments participated in the meeting.
