A former traffic officer in Mpumalanga has been sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment for housebreaking and the murder of his wife's lover, Thamsanqa Sbusiso Nkosi. The Mpumalanga Division of the High Court sentenced Abednego Desmond Mbuyane on Tuesday, 3 June 2025. A former traffic officer in Mpumalanga has been sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment for housebreaking and the murder of his wife's lover, Thamsanqa Sbusiso Nkosi. The Mpumalanga Division of the High Court sentenced Abednego Desmond Mbuyane on Tuesday, 3 June 2025. Hawks provincial spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Magonseni Nkosi, confirmed to The South African that Mbuyane killed Nkosi after finding him in a room with his wife at Kwanyoni Lodge, Nelspruit, in April 2023. The former traffic cop had been calling his wife multiple times to no avail. Seeing that she was not answering his calls, he became suspicious and tracked the vehicle she was travelling in, which pointed him to the lodge. 'Upon arrival, he identified the room where the vehicle was parked nearby. After knocking without response, he forcibly entered by kicking the door open. Inside, he found his wife and the deceased,' read the police statement. An altercation ensued, prompting his wife and lover to flee the room. The accused continuously chased the deceased and fatally shot him in the head and shoulder and fled the scene. He later handed himself to the police. During court proceedings, the accused pleaded guilty to murder and housebreaking. However, the State rejected his plea and ruled out the murder as premeditated. The court also sentenced him to 5 years' imprisonment for housebreaking, adding to the 12 years' imprisonment for murder. A man was sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment for killing his 23-year-old girlfriend in Naledi Park, Botshabelo. Radisebo Jacob Sebatli (30) killed his girlfriend in August 2024 after forcefully entering the house where his girlfriend stayed and calling out for her. 'The 23-year-old victim tried to escape, but Sebatli ran after her stabbing her with a sharp object at the back, the neck and stomach. The victim fell to the ground and succumbed to the stab wounds,' the police said. The Bloemfontein High Court found Sebatli guilty of housebreaking with the intent to murder and murder.
