Rail users association seeks amenities at Kumbakonam railway station
The Thanjavur District Railway Users' Association has submitted to Southern Railway a list of amenities identified by rail users that are to be revived/created at Kumbakonam railway station, which is to be redeveloped at a cost of ̥₹99 crore. In a memorandum addressed to Additional General Manager of Southern Railway Kaushal Kishore, the association said that passengers prefer the creation or re-establishment of certain facilities as part of the Station Redevelopment Work project. Some important works identified are provision of shelters in all platforms, revival of emergency medical facility, provision of digital locker facility, erection of digital train arrival and departure information board outside the concourse, provision of digital coach position indicators and public announcement system in all platforms, provision of lifts/escalators to reach island platforms, setting up of an information counter near the booking office and re-establishment of coach watering facility.

Restore Tambaram-Coimbatore Special Express, Thanjavur association urges railways
. The Thanjavur District Railway Users' Association has exhorted the Southern Railway to revive the Tambaram-Podanur / Coimbatore-Tambaram Weekly Special Express train (06184/06185) to connect Delta districts with Palani, Pollachi, and Kinathukadavu region. In a letter to Southern Railway General Manger, association secretary A. Giri said this train had evoked good response from passengers with a high level of occupancy benefitting passengers of all intermediate stations. But non-extension of its service beyond June 8 has caused much disappointment to the passengers. In case the railways faced any constraints in operating the train from Tambaram because of ongoing work at Chennai Egmore, it may be either operated with rake maintenance in Coimbatore or between Chengalpattu and Podanur Junction / Coimbatore, Mr. Giri added.
