Woman in the ICU after struck by vehicle while leaving concert in Boone
BOONE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A young woman has been hospitalized after she was struck by a vehicle over the weekend while attending a concert in Boone.
Mallory Price Mayor, 20, of Waxhaw, was seriously injured Saturday, April 26, after being struck by a Toyota Tacoma, operated by a 22-year-old, while crossing Old US 421 South near Cabbage Row Drive. The NC State Highway Patrol responded just before 10 p.m. to the scene.
Highway Patrol confirms with Queen City News that the initial crash investigation did not show impairment or speed as contributing factors. The area was closed for about an hour.
'At the time of the collision, there was heavy pedestrian, as well as vehicular traffic in this area, because of the Thaw Out concert,' Highway Patrol said.
NCSHP confirmed no charges will be filed in this accident.
According to family and friends, Mallory had been returning home from the concert when the accident occurred. She reportedly suffered a fractured skull, brain bleed, and broken femur and underwent emergency brain surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She remains in the ICU but is now breathing on her own following femur surgery on April 28.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover medical and living expenses.
