Bobby Deol Hugs SRK, Recalls Their Emotional Conversation: ‘We Live In Fear Because…'

Last Updated: Bobby Deol gets emotional as he recalls Shah Rukh Khan's words and praises Aryan Khan's debut project The Ba**ds Of Bollywood, set to release on Netflix. Netflix launched the preview of its much-awaited series The Ba**ds Of Bollywood in a grand event in Mumbai, marking the directorial and writing debut of Aryan Khan, son of Shah Rukh Khan. The show features Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, and Bobby Deol in key roles. While the unveiling was filled with excitement, the highlight of the evening came when Shah Rukh Khan introduced Bobby Deol to the audience with heartfelt words, recalling their long-standing friendship and Bobby's debut days in the industry. Shah Rukh Khan's Heartfelt Introduction For Bobby SRK fondly remembered the time when Bobby Deol made his debut in 1995 with Barsaat alongside Twinkle Khanna. 'Toh itna handsome aadmi maine life mein nahin dekha tha. Blue glasses pehen ke khada tha Bobby Deol. Uski picture aanewali thi Barsaat. And I was like, 'I wish I can be like him,'" Khan shared, drawing applause from the crowd. He went on to say, 'Since then we became friends. He is among those heroes and friends who have always been with me during my happy and sorrowful times. Ladies and gentlemen, he is a genuine superstar. We are so happy for each other whenever we do well. And we are always together." The moment turned emotional as Bobby joined SRK on stage and the two stars shared a warm hug. Bobby Deol On Aryan Khan's Debut Speaking about the significance of the day, Bobby Deol said, 'The 20th of August will always remain special for me. I remember when Shah Rukh bhai once said, 'Hamare bachche hai, and they want to join the industry.' Today, seeing Aryan take that step feels surreal. I have seen him as a little boy, and then years later, when I heard him speak, there was something magical about him, as if he was ready to conquer the world." The actor revealed how he came on board the project. 'I clearly remember getting a call from Red Chillies. They said, 'Aryan is doing this show, would you like to be a part of it?' I instantly said yes. Aryan still wanted to narrate it to me himself. I sat for almost seven hours listening to the script. The conviction with which he narrated it left me amazed," Bobby said. 'We Live In Fear Because…' Deol went on to reflect on the struggles of being a parent in the industry. 'That made me so happy because, as parents, we always wish for our children to be talented and successful. At the same time, we live in fear because we know the struggles we went through to reach where we are," he added. Praising Aryan's vision, Bobby concluded, 'It's not special because it's Aryan's or Shah Rukh bhai's project, but because it truly is massive. Every actor has performed brilliantly, but it's the director who brings out the soul of the story. Aryan pushed us, made us do many takes, but he brought out the best in everyone." The Ba**ds Of Bollywood will begin streaming on Netflix from September 18. First Published: August 20, 2025, 21:56 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Aryan Khan's jail time, Karan Johar cuss-filled rant, and Shah Rukh Khan's real-life journey to stardom: Decoding the The Ba***ds Of Bollywood preview

The wait is finally over! The preview of Aryan Khan's directorial debut The Ba**ds Of Bollywood was released on Wednesday and it created quite an impression on the audience. The show, which Shah Rukh Khan described as a 'raw, edgy and mad tale of Bollywood,' features cameos by some of Bollywood's biggest names and also includes subtle references from both Shah Rukh and Aryan's lives. Let's take a look at all the cameos and references in the recently released preview of the show: Aryan drew inspiration from his father's journey and reflected it in his debut show. The series revolves around the story of an outsider, played by Lakshya, who gets his dream debut in Bollywood. Shah Rukh's story in Bollywood is also somewhat similar –he came from a non-filmy family and went on to become the King of Bollywood. The opening scene of the teaser shows Lakshya performing a high-octane action sequence as Shah Rukh's voiceover says, 'Bollywood ek sapno ka shehar par ye sapno ka shehar sabka nahi hota. Aur iss sapno ki duniya mein kuch log Hero ke ghar paida hote hai, kuch hero paida hote hai' (Bollywood is the city of dreams, but this city doesn't accept everyone. While some are born in a hero's house, some are born heroes). The show introduces newcomer Sahher Bambba as the 'nepokid,' while Bobby Deol's Ajay Talvar plays the role of the biggest superstar in the industry. The actor has a powerful entry in the preview as he is seen surrounded by cameras with fans shouting his name — very much like Shah Rukh's stardom in real life. Another eye-catching cameo comes from Karan Johar, who is seen swearing in the preview like never before. The filmmaker-producer sports a hoodie with the message, 'I did nothing, I just got lucky,' a subtle dig at his critics who often accuse him of promoting nepotism in Bollywood and giving breaks to star kids. It almost feels like Karan is venting out at all his critics in this scene. Karan is the son of late Bollywood producer Yash Johar. The preview also hints at Aryan revisiting Satish Shah's iconic character from Shah Rukh Khan's film Main Hoon Na. In the film, Satish's professor character often spat on Shah Rukh while talking, and in The Ba**ds Of Bollywood,* Raghav Juyal is seen spitting on Lakshya while speaking to him, almost as a playful homage. Salman Khan makes his appearance in his trademark nonchalant style as he disses the party he's attending. He can be seen saying, 'Bulls**t party.'* Ranveer Singh also features in the preview, delivering the iconic dialogue from his film Gully Boy — 'hard haan, bahut hard.' One of the boldest references comes when the show's lead, Lakshya, is seen walking out of jail after spending a night there. It seems Aryan drew from his own life experience for this scene, turning a personal tragedy into comedy for his audience. In the scene, a police officer tells Lakshya, 'Tension nahi lene ka andar jane ke baad log aur bhi famous hojate hai (Don't worry, people who go inside jail become even more famous).'

Ba***ds of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan said Aryan Khan doesn't have what it takes to be an actor', called son ‘his set-up for the future'

The wait for fans eager to catch a glimpse of Aryan Khan's directorial debut The Ba***ds Of Bollywood will soon be over. Before the makers unveil the web show's teaser on Wednesday, we look back at moments when Shah Rukh Khan praised his son Aryan for his writing skills, while also openly pointing out his shortcomings as an actor. After Aryan announced his directorial debut, an old clip of Shah Rukh from the promotions of his film Zero resurfaced online. In the clip, King Khan cheekily admitted that Aryan is his 'set up' for the future, while also revealing that his son has no interest in acting. He said, 'My son does not want to act, he wants to make films. He writes a bit, and he writes quite well. He's learning to be a film director or writer.' He added, 'He is my set-up for the future. When no big director wants to work with me, I'll bring my own big director.' 'I'll bring my own big film director.' – Shah Rukh Khan in an interview 2019 Aryan is now currently working on his first project as a film director/writer#AryanKhan #ShahRuhKhan @iamsrk — Aryan Khan Source (@aryankhansource) April 7, 2023 Shah Rukh Khan spoke in detail about Aryan's future plans during his interaction with David Letterman, when the talk show host visited his Mumbai bungalow. In that conversation, SRK revealed that Aryan himself recognises that acting is not his forte. He said, 'He (Aryan) doesn't have what it takes to be an actor and he realises that too, but he's a good writer. I think wanting to be an actor has to come from within. Something you really need to do and find a set of skill that helps you do it and learn it. But I think I realised it from him when he said that to me.' Shah Rukh also admitted that Aryan feels the pressure of living up to his father's legacy and is wary of constant comparisons. 'He came to me and said, 'I don't think I want to act.' His issue was – which I think is practical and honest – he said, 'Every time I'll be compared to you… and I don't want to be in that position',' Shah Rukh had revealed. Interestingly, while SRK has often expressed doubts about Aryan's ability to act in past interviews, fans have been going gaga over his screen presence, looks, and voice after watching the recent promotional video of The Ba**ds Of Bollywood*. The clip featured Aryan making a cameo to introduce his show, and fans were quick to point out that his screen presence is eerily similar to Shah Rukh's. Some even vouched for him to consider an acting debut. Aryan had made his interests clear to SRK years ago, and the superstar respected his choice by encouraging him to focus on filmmaking instead. In an old interview, Shah Rukh recalled sending Aryan to celebrated cinematographer Ravi Varman to learn camera work, and explained why he never imposed acting on his son. He said, 'I told him to learn whichever aspects of film he can go and learn… The other day I met (famed cinematographer) Ravi Varman, I told him go and learn camera (work) with him. He has been doing that.' During the same interaction, Shah Rukh also stressed that he wants his children to carve out their own path and not ride on his stardom. 'As actors and filmmakers, my kids, in case they wish to come in, they have to bring something new. They can't live off the stuff their father has managed to do. It's important they bring in something new and if I impose myself, they won't be able to. Let them go and bring in something radical and strange. Wrong, maybe. But it should be newer than what I have been able to give,' the actor had said.
