Margate: Workshops to start to create memorial quilt
The first of a series of workshops in Kent to create a quilt in memory of those who have lost their lives to suicide is set to take Kent Speak Their Name memorial quilt has been inspired by similar projects in Greater Manchester, Yorkshire and in Hampshire in has been organised by the parents of Stefan Kluibenschadl, from Margate, who died in 2022, aged mother, Emma Kluibenschadl, said each square of the quilt made at the workshop in Margate on Saturday would "represent the unique memories of the family or friend who has died".
"The quilt project will get people together, talking about their loved ones and supporting their own mental health," she said."I've had more than 30 people already contact me from all over Kent wanting to take part, which is really encouraging."
Further creative workshops are planned in Margate, Broadstairs and Herne Bay over the coming completed artwork will be displayed at a suicide prevention event, The Baton of Hope, in Margate this September, and preparations are under way for it to travel around venues in Kent from October.
