Palak Tiwari opens up on not being a ‘typical' star kid: There is privilege but not enough of it
Two years after her debut in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Palak Tiwari returned to the big screen this May with the horror-comedy The Bhootnii. But the actor insists that her journey hasn't been like any other industry kid. Being the daughter of actor Shweta Tiwari, Palak Tiwari is a star kid, but with her mum's stronger background being in TV, she wasn't seen as any other star kid in the Hindi film industry. 'I was somewhere in this middle ground. I was like, 'oh these people are calling me a star kid, but I'm not really a star kid. But also, I'm not a normal person who's auditioning in Andheri'. So, there was this privilege but not enough of it; there was also normalcy, but not enough of it too. It was very tough to find my place. In many ways, it was a privilege, but in many ways, I was typecast instantly. I did struggle with that, but I'm still trying to find my place,' she says. Ask Palak if she feels she is somewhere living her mum's dream of being on the big screen too with her journey, and she shares, 'My mother got multiple chances to be on the big screen, but she was very content with television. It has given her and us so much. I have a house with a roof, and I have cars in my life due to it. My life is comfortable, my brother has lived a comfortable life, all because of television, so I will always respect and honour television. My mom was very happy there and aisa kabhi nahi tha unhe ki wo chod ke films mein jana hai. She really knows her roots, and she never was greedy in that sense.' So, with a legacy of her mother behind her name, why did she decide to venture into films and not TV? 'It wasn't like I didn't want to do television because it's a smaller medium, not at all. TV has given our industry such brilliant, versatile and phenomenal actors. But I felt that because of my mom's legacy in television, everything that there was to be explored, she had done that. So, there was nothing new for me to discover there,' she responds.

From 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama' to 'The Bhootnii': Sunny Singh is quietly owning Bollywood's comedy space
From the moment he appeared as the lovably confused character in 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama', Sunny Singh caught the audience's attention with his impeccable comic timing and perfect dialogue delivery. In a space often dominated by over-the-top antics, Sunny's style of comedy is refreshing, realistic, with a dash of sarcasm, and endearing innocence. Over the years, he has carved a niche for himself in Bollywood's comedy genre with films like 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety', 'Jai Mummy Di', 'Ujda Chaman', and the recent 'The Bhootnii', proving that he's not just the funny guy, but the relatable one. In 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama', Sunny played the role of Chauka, one of the three friends trying to make sense of modern-day relationships. While the film's infamous monologue by Kartik Aaryan went viral, Sunny's contribution lay in his relatable expressions and the subtle yet hilarious way he responded to his friends' chaos. His natural screen presence and effortless timing didn't go unnoticed. The film became his stepping stone, paving the way for his journey up the ladder of success. HAMID BARKZI,ROZLYN KHAN,PRATIK GANDHI & RASHIKA DUGAL AT THE RED CARPET OF 8TH TALENTRACK AWARDS Then came 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety;, the film that cemented his place in mainstream comedy. As the naive and trusting Titu, Sunny's restrained performance was the perfect foil to Kartik's high-energy Sonu. His character's simplicity and emotional vulnerability brought balance to the bromance, and his dialogues, especially 'Mujhe toh Sweety sahi lagti hai yaar', sparked countless memes and were repeated in everyday conversations. What stood out was how naturally he embodied the confused, love-struck boy, without ever going over the top. In 'Jai Mummy Di', he stepped into the role of a young man stuck between love and a hilarious family feud. While the film had a chaotic, almost sitcom-like energy, Sunny stood out with his grounded performance. He portrayed frustration and helplessness in a way that wasn't just funny but also highly believable, a boy next door who just wants peace but gets caught in a storm. Ujda Chaman was a departure from his usual comic outings. Here, Sunny played a prematurely balding man dealing with societal judgments. While still a comedy, the film leaned into satire and self-reflection. Sunny brought a layer of sensitivity and depth to his role, showing that he could do more than just punchlines, he could make you laugh and think at the same time. His recent performance in Wild Wild Punjab was another example of how he adapts his style to fit ensemble comedies. Amid the madness of the bachelor party gone rogue, Sunny's understated wit helped bring moments of calm hilarity. And in his recent film The Bhootnii, he once again reminded everyone of his strength, being funny without trying too hard. His expressions, especially in ghostly situations, were priceless. What makes Sunny Singh unique is his ability to be the heart of a comedy without demanding the spotlight! The Times of India editorial team was not involved in the creation of this content. ‘Kapkapiii' movie review: Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade's unfunny horror-comedy is instantly forgettable
Cast: Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Sonia Rathee, Abhishek Kumar, Varun Pandey, Manmeet Kaur Director: Sangeeth Sivan Language: Hindi The landscape of horror-comedy is now getting frustrating and futile. The genre was mastered by the remarkable Stree in 2018 until many titles followed and took away its innocence and ingeniousness. Stree 2 , despite paling in comparison in terms of writing, at least for the grammar of visual effects spot on. The ingenious characters are for the ages. But Hindi films don't want to be ingenious, they prefer being inane to please the box office despite ghastly results. So after the entirely washed-out The Bhootnii that scared its distributors more than the audiences, we have another utterly and immeasurably forgettable Kapkapiii. Yes, it has three 'i's in its name to either suggest too much panic or maybe due to numerological reasons. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The film is a remake of the Malayalam film Romancham. It's a story that talks about seance, blind faith, and a rather unknown disease. Kapkapiii is directed by the late director Sangeeth Sivan, the man behind Kya Kool Hain Hum and Apna Sapna Money Money. Sivan had a flair for slapstick comedy but here, he buried under the pressure to get the genre of horror-comedy right. It's all too pretentious and predictable. He brings his two regular actors Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor back. These two individuals have scored in the Golmaal series but the collective failure here shows how it's all about the director calling the shots and not respective tenacities alone. Talpade, in particular, is one remarkable talent who never got the due he deserved. He completes 20 years in cinema this year. His Iqbal is one of the finest pieces of work by a debutant. Unfortunately, he was made a sidekick in most of the corny comedies. Kapoor looks and acts the best when mute. Barring Khakee and Shor In The City, he hasn't had one solid performance in his repertoire. To be honest, both the actors are capable of so much more. What the film is about? Without giving away much of the puerile plot, Kapkapiii is about a man desperately trying to meet his roommates to tell them something but is not allowed to meet anyone. The story then moves into a flashback. It's about silliness and subterfuge. With dried results of course. Unlike the Malayalam original, the remake fails to do justice to the rootedness of the story. The makers are too busy in trying to gratify the appetite of the audience to see more films of this genre but fail. What exactly makes a horror comedy work? The ability of the entire team to make people laugh when they are supposed to be scared. Or create a blend of two contrasting emotions. Kapkapiii fails in these accounts. Even the ensemble delivers run-of-the-mill likes and performances. I had expectations because this is one genre that has the potential to score well. But it seems it's now suffering from fatigue. We may have to call an emcee to drive away with the ghost of horror comedies. Rating: 1.5 (out of 5 stars) Kapkapiii is now playing in cinemas

Insider job? Pirated versions of Hindi films surface days before box office release
Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Mumbai: Marquee Hindi films such as Sikandar, Jaat, Raid 2 and The Bhootnii were leaked online, kneecapping their run at the box office at birth, according to film trade films were released on pirated and illegal web sites and applications on Thursday, a day before their formal release, bucking a pirating practice of releasing new films a day after their run at cinemas."There is a growing trend of movies, especially Hindi and Tamil films, being leaked on the day before the release. In such cases, the role of an insider is suspected," said a senior Maharashtra police officer."Piracy before the day of release of a film implies that it is an insider job. There are three channels through which a film can get leaked. They are post-production studios, content delivery agencies and nefarious elements in exhibition companies," said Girish Wankhede, a movie trade analyst.A recent EY study with the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) showed that 51% of media consumers access content from pirated sources. There are four key sources of piracy: illegal streaming platforms, mobile applications, spreading of pirated links on social media, and report noted that instant messaging platform Telegram is a widely preferred platform for consumers of pirated content and pirates alike as it allows transfer of files up to 2 GB. According to the report, in 2023, theatres and the streaming industry lost '13,700 crore and '8,700 crore, respectively, due to said the new trend of piracy before release is largely connected with how strong the buzz or interest that a film has generated before its release."A pre-release leak is not just piracy-it is economic sabotage. It destroys a film's theatrical potential, jeopardises digital (streaming) and satellite deals, and kills audience curiosity before the first show," said Suniel Wadhwa, co-founder & director, Karmic Films. "The buzz or interest around a film is a key factor whether a film's print gets leaked before or after its release," Wadhwa veterans said it was critical to follow a multi-layered approach which covers legality, technology and systemic aspects associated with piracy. They suggest that the increasing use of AI and collaboration with technology companies such as BLOCK X Technologies, which spot sites and other sources of pirated content, must be the norm in the industry to reduce piracy in the industry."To avoid piracy, with help of right stakeholders, we are working on a technology which will break a movie into three parts and these three parts can only be joined with a password," said Wankhede.
