Amazon Prime Video Cancels Fan-Favorite Series After One Season

A tough decision appears to have been made by Amazon Prime Video regarding one of their newest series. While there are plenty of fans for this live-action series, it looks like the show didn't perform well enough, as Amazon's streaming platform has announced that the series will be canceled with only one season. This is always the kind of disappointing announcement that fans never want to hear. Sadly, however, it looks like the ratings for the series just didn't reach the numbers Amazon was hoping for. In fact, it appears to have made the #9 spot on the Originals chart for the Nielsen Top 10 streaming rankings before dropping off the ranks in its second week. While the series also performed well critically, it seems as though there just wasn't enough of a dedicated audience to keep it at the top of the platform's charts. Without a worthwhile performance, then, Amazon Prime made the decision to outright cancel the series. As shared via Deadline this resulted in the following cancellation: 'Prime Video has opted not to proceed with a second season of its supernatural action drama The Bondsman starring Kevin Bacon.' The outlet explained the various ways in which the series performed during its initial run, which during its second week, it still managed to stay 'on Prime Video's platform Top 10 list, currently at No. 5 in the U.S., after holding the #1 spot earlier in its run.' The action horror series The Bondsman stars Kevin Bacon as an undead bounty hunter named Hub Halloran. With a cast that also included Jennifer Nettles, Beth Grant, Damon Herriman, Maxwell Jenkins, and Jolene Purdy, it's a shame to see that it didn't captivate enough of an audience to keep going. Of course, subscribers have become quite familiar with the way streaming services curate their content, which can often be a harsh and unforgiving landscape if a series fails to perform well enough. As such, we'll have to see what other updates come next regarding our favorite shows. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional television updates as we have them.

As TVLine's Inside Line column recently told you, once Neagley's freshman season has wrapped filming, the cameras will get rolling on Reacher Season 4 (since the shows share much of the same crew). Reacher Season 4 was greenlit way back in October, well ahead of the well-reviewed third season's February premiere. Little has been revealed yet about the supporting cast or which Lee Child novel is being adapted this go-round, but Ritchson in a Wednesday Instagram post shared a photo of him with the Reacher stunt team, saying, 'Season 4 is going to be the most intensely physical season yet. My body is ready.' Filming for Season 4 'is right around the corner,' Ritchson suggested, 'and dare I say… May be the best season yet?' Kevin Bacon Gets Disappointing Career News

Prime Video released the -led horror series The Bondsman just over a month ago and has already canceled it, according to Deadline. The official show description explains that Bacon plays "Hub Halloran, a murdered bounty hunter, is back from the dead after being resurrected by the Devil to trap and send back demons that have escaped from the prison of Hell; by chasing them down, Hub learns how his own sins got his soul condemned." All eight of the first season episodes dropped on Prime Video on April 3 after premiering at SXSW a month earlier. Initially, there were high hopes for this series after it started with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 100 percent (which later dropped to 83 percent). Even on Prime Video, The Bondsman started strong with the series landing in the Nielsen Top 10 streaming rankings at number 9 in its first week. Despite dropping off in the second week, Bacon's latest series is still listed as No. 5 in television shows on Prime Video. The disappointing news didn't seem to bother Bacon much. On the same day the cancellation of his show was announced, the 66-year-old actor shared a video on Instagram and didn't mention the end of the series. Instead, he showed a makeup artist adding his character, Hub Halloran's scars and tattoos—which must be done each day before filming begins. There's plenty more on the horizon for Bacon, who stars alongside his wife, , in the movie, The Best You Can, which is set for a June 7 release. He also plays Peter in the five-part mini-series Sirens, coming out on May 22. on Netflix.
