Scottish city 'village' with luxury homes named coolest neighbourhood in the UK
It was praised for its wide variety of restaurants and independent businesses. A neighbourhood in a Scottish city has been named as the "coolest" in the country". It was singled out by The Telegraph for its atmosphere and independent businesses. All of Scotland's cities are home to trendy neighbourhoods that are popular amongst young people and creatives, from Finnieston in Glasgow to Broughty Ferry in Dundee. However, one in Edinburgh could have them all beat according to a new article. On Monday, July 7, The Telegraph published an article about "the Edinburgh 'village' that might be Britain's coolest neighbourhood". The newspaper suggested Stockbridge was the UK's top chic destination. Stockbridge is a district in the Scottish capital that is known for its cobbled streets and Georgian architecture. Situated just a short walk from the centre of Edinburgh, it is among the most expensive destinations in the city when it comes to property. As reported by the Daily Record, one of the priciest streets in Scotland is situated in Stockbridge. Properties on Ann Street fetch an average of around £1.8million. The Telegraph praised Stockbridge as "a tree-lined district of luxury homes, Michelin stars and hip bakeries". The newspaper singled out a wide range of food businesses in the neighbourhood. Among the eateries that were applauded is The Captain Darling. The pub and restaurant, which is located on Hamilton Place, serves up a varied lunch and dinner menu that includes dishes such as Chicken Schnitzel, courgette and lentil lasagne, and beef shin and Guinness pie. The Telegraph described The Captain Darling as Edinburgh's "hottest newest dining spot". In particular, the newspaper praised its "prawn cocktail reinvented with west coast langoustines". Elsewhere, another restaurant that was featured on The Telegraph's article is The Scran and Scallie. The award-winning gastropub offers a modern Scottish menu, as well as a large selection of draught and bottled beers and whiskies. Another popular food venue in Stockbridge is sandwich shop Mootz General Store. As reported by the Daily Record, we recently reviewed the eatery—praising its large portions and "perfect balance of flavours". Meanwhile, one aspect of Stockbridge that was commended is its shopping opportunities. All around the neighbourhood, there is a wide variety of independent businesses selling all kinds of goods. One store that earned praise from The Telegraph is Sculleries of Stockbridge, which specialises in kitchens and interiors. Another business mentioned in the article is Rare Birds Books, which is dedicated to women's writing. Other elements of Stockbridge that received praise are its views over the Water of Leith river and its "serenity". The neighbourhood was also noted for nearby attractions such as the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and Inverleith Park. The Telegraph wrote: "This idyllic hideaway of shaded river banks and elegantly old-world, tree-shrouded streets reclines barely a 10-minute stroll from the core of one of the world's most wondrous cities."
