Top 10 pick reveals Jim Harbaugh said Chargers were selecting him in 2024 NFL draft
Top 10 pick reveals Jim Harbaugh said Chargers were selecting him in 2024 NFL draft The Chargers struck gold with the selection of Joe Alt with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. But there was a possibility that they were going to go in a different direction, as told by the player who thought he was going to end up in Los Angeles. Titans' JC Latham was a recent guest on the podcast Bussin With The Boys, and he went on to reveal that Jim Harbaugh told him that the Bolts were going to take him with the fifth pick. "When I met with the Chargers, Harbaugh said we're taking you," Latham said. "Harbaugh said we're taking you. You're our guy and we want you at right soon as I left, Mel Kiper tweeted out that the Chargers said they are taking Latham at five." Latham said at that point he wasn't sure if Harbaugh was joking when he said that they were going to pick him. His agency told him that the word around the Chargers building was that they were going to take him. However, it did not come to fruition. "When the fifth pick came up, I'm in the green room and 30 cameras came right in front of me," Latham added. Right in front of my face. Phone is in my lap. And then I realized that this was going to happen, and then they pick Joe Alt." It remains to be seen whether the Chargers were targeting Latham with the pick, assuming Alt was not going to be available. Or if Harbaugh was joking all along. Los Angeles did seem to show high interest in Latham, as offensive line coach Mike Devlin worked with the former Alabama product at his pro day. Nonetheless, the Chargers seemed to get it right by taking Alt, who had a sensational rookie season. Latham dealt with more growing pains than Alt as he transitioned to left tackle in his first year. He is going back to his natural right tackle position, though.

NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds: Omarion Hampton could be sneaky good bet
NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds: Omarion Hampton could be sneaky good bet The Chargers are hoping to boost their offense this season with the arrival of running back Omarion Hampton, who was selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. Hampton will share the backfield with veteran Najee Harris, but the former North Carolina product should still have a sizeable role in the offense, one big enough that it could put him in the mix for Offensive Rookie of the Year. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Hampton's odds to win the award are +1600. That means if you bet $100 for Hampton to earn OROY and he does, you'd profit an additional $1600. Ahead of Hampton are Raiders' Ashton Jeanty (+200), Titans' Cam Ward (+230), Jaguars' Travis Hunter (+750), Saints' Tyler Shough (+1200), and Panthers' Tetairoa McMillan (+1400). While Hampton is viewed as a longshot, it's not a bad idea to throw something on him to win. All it takes is for injuries to occur to the frontrunners or them not to live up to the expectations and Hampton could have an exceptional enough rookie season to hoist the trophy. Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman are going to emphasize running the football and, given his talent, a system tailored to Hampton's skill set and an improved offensive line, Hampton could make some serious noise in Year 1.

Report: Chargers hosting TE Evan Engram for visit
Report: Chargers hosting TE Evan Engram for visit The Chargers are hosting free agent tight end Evan Engram on a visit today, according to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero. Engram previously took a visit with the Broncos. To clear up some cap space and due to a change in the offensive regime, the Jaguars released Engram last week. Engram, a two-time Pro Bowler, is one of the better receiving tight ends in the NFL, which is what Los Angeles needs. A torn labrum limited Engram to nine games in 2024, but he still finished with 47 catches for 365 yards and a touchdown. The year before that, Engram caught 114 passes for 963 yards and four scores en route to one of his Pro Bowl appearances. Engram was originally selected by the Giants in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft. In eight seasons in the NFL, he has posted 496 career receptions, 4,922 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns.
