Chuck Todd tears into Biden's family-man image, questions if we 'were sold a 40-year bill of goods'
Former NBC News host Chuck Todd wondered on Monday if the media were sold a "40-year bill of goods" about former President Joe Biden being a family man during a discussion about Biden's decision to run for re-election. "You and I covered, for most of our professional lives, the story of Joe Biden was: This guy cared about his family so much he commuted home every night from Washington," Todd said during his podcast, "The Chuck Toddcast," first reported by The Daily Caller. Todd spoke to CNN host Jake Tapper about Biden while discussing Tapper's book, "Original Sin," which is about the former president's decision to run for re-election and the cover-up of his decline while in office. "You know what else you could say is, this man was so ambitious that after his family went through that tragedy, he commuted every day to work, like it's the same story. I sit here, I look at this, and I think, were we sold a 40-year bill of goods?" Todd said. I followed that Hunter Biden trial soup to nuts," Todd told Tapper. "I read every single transcript. I read all of the testimony. I cannot believe to this day, Jake, that Joe Biden did this to his kids. I just can't believe that he did it. I can't." Read On The Fox News App The CNN host said a person close to the Biden family had told him there were a lot of "truths the family did not want to face up to." "One, Beau was dying, two. Hunter is addicted to drugs. Three, Joe Biden cares about his family more than anything else, and those three are not true, this person close to the family said. And when you talk about his running in 2020, I think that comes to bear, because, obviously, he was putting his ambition, and if you want to be charitable, his hopes to save the country from Trumpism, or whatever, obviously he was putting that above what was going on with his family and his two children and their struggles," Tapper said earlier in the discussion. Todd criticized the notion that Biden is a family man in March and has argued that he shouldn't have run for president at all. "I completely got so angry at Joe Biden, the man, when I read the transcript of the Hunter Biden trial, and when I realized that not one, not two, but three Biden children, and I count Beau's widow, were all dealing with drug problems in 2018. And Joe Biden said, 'Now's a perfect time to run for president, because who cares about our family?'" he said. Todd argued that there was a "mythology" about Biden caring so much about his family. Chuck Todd says top Democrats 'paralyzed' by opposite wings of the party
Former NBC "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd said Friday that Democratic leaders Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and Sen. Chuck Schumer were both acting "paralyzed" because of the two different wings within the party. "Jeffries and Schumer are acting paralyzed because they have two different constituencies. They have ones who are worried about a left-wing tea party, and they should be worried about that, because I do think this anger inside the base is real," Todd said during an appearance on CNN. Todd recently departed NBC News after moderating "Meet the Press" for several years. He now hosts a podcast called "The Chuck Toddcast." The panel discussed the Democratic response and protests during President Donald Trump's address to Congress. "Then you have others who are like, hey, I won, and Trump carried my state. So I've got to do this. So, I think that's why Jeffries and Schumer come across as paralyzed because they're trying to placate a coalition party that doesn't know which direction to go to," Todd continued. Chuck Todd, former moderator of NBC's 'Meet the Press,' is leaving the network after nearly 20 years. In an internal memo on Friday, Todd thanked his longtime colleagues and said he has a 'few new projects' in the works, signaling a desire for a more entrepreneurial phase of his career. For that reason, he said he is leaving the network a number of months before his NBC contract was set to expire. Todd said NBC is allowing him to take his twice-a-week podcast franchise, 'The ChuckToddcast,' to a new distributor. For about a decade, Todd was one of the most prominent voices at NBC News, covering the political rise of Donald Trump and the Democratic response. He helmed 'Meet the Press' from 2014 until 2023. Todd was outspoken about the corrosive impacts of Trump-era lies and indecency — and was ridiculed by Trump and others for it. In 2023, after a management change atop NBC News, Todd stepped down from 'Meet the Press' and Kristen Welker took over his role. Todd said it was important not to 'overstay' his welcome — a striking message for a Washington crowd full of elderly politicos. 'I'd rather leave a little bit too soon than stay a tad too long,' he added. Todd saw his air time diminished in recent years, though he remained a prominent part of political and Election Night coverage last November. In a statement on Friday NBC News said, 'We're grateful for Chuck's many contributions to our political coverage during his nearly two-decade career at NBC News and for his deep commitment to 'Meet the Press' and its enduring legacy. We wish him all the best in his next endeavors.' In his memo, Todd said, 'The media has a lot of work to do to win back the trust of viewers/listeners/readers and I'm convinced the best place to start is from the bottom up,' with local instead of national media. 'This is a ripe moment,' he added. 'The only way to fix this information ecosystem is to stop whining about the various ways the social media companies are manipulating things and instead roll up our collective sleeves and start with local.'
