Former Presidential candidate Peter Casey to build 24 social homes in Donegal
Former Presidential candidate and tech millionaire Peter Casey is to build 24 social housing units in Co Donegal.
The wealthy businessman has submitted a planning application to Donegal County Council for the construction of the specification, two bedroom apartments for social housing on the site of the former Ludden House in Buncrana.

He says the development comes at a pivotal time, as the Government faces increasing pressure to tackle the national housing crisis, particularly in Donegal, where the defective concrete block crisis has left countless families without secure homes.
'The housing situation in Donegal is beyond urgent,' said Mr. Casey. 'I've been passionate about making a difference here for years, and this is a real, tangible step forward, not just building homes, but restoring hope.'
The project will involve the demolition of the long derelict Ludden House, making way for a landscaped, modern apartment complex.
All units will be built using high quality timber frame systems and will meet A1 energy efficiency standards, ensuring long term affordability and sustainability for residents.

In addition to providing much needed homes, the development is expected to generate significant local employment during construction and through related trades and services.
The project will be delivered by The Craig Group, a construction firm known for its meticulous standards and commitment to quality.
A spokesperson for The Craig Group commented: 'This is more than just another development, it's a community project, built by local people, for local people.'
Casey said the development is part of his long standing commitment to revitalising Donegal's housing stock and supporting communities during a time of urgent need.
With planning now submitted, the team is hopeful for a swift approval, enabling construction to begin and bringing the region one step closer to addressing one of its most critical challenges.
