The general rise in the price of goods and services is trending towards the Fed's 2% goal as of late, which is good news. The higher rates that fought inflation also didn't slow economic activity enough to catalyze a recession. So far, soft landing. This, combined with recent rate cuts (half a percent in September 2024 and a quarter percent in November 2024) have led to strong stock market performance in 2024. The icing on the cake for 2024 returns was Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. Presidential Election in early November, sending major indices to all-time highs in the week following the election. Still, debates around the health of the economy and the impact of potential tariffs and corporate tax cuts remain, leaving much uncertainty around 2025. As Parramatta's Powerhouse Museum reaches full height, secret lifted on target opening date

Parramatta's $915 million Powerhouse Museum is being targeted to open in September next year after four years of construction on the largest new cultural institution in the state since the Sydney Opera House. The intended opening date puts it close to two years behind its promised opening date, which has been pushed back due to unseasonal rains and a complex building process. The new target opening date was inadvertently revealed by Premier Chris Minns at a press conference at the site on Friday morning, during which he announced a $5 million donation from the philanthropic Neilson Foundation for a range of exhibitions at the site. 'It's not far away, probably September of next year it'll open its doors, and it'll be an exciting day for our beautiful city,' he said. When a reporter clarified the target opening date, Minns responded: 'Well, it may well be that I wasn't supposed to say that, but that's what we're aiming for, and so it's not too far away. We really want to open as soon as possible. 'If it's held back, it will only be because it'll be a bigger, better exhibition.' The museum has now reached its full 75-metre height, and its exoskeleton – the 'milk crate'-like external steel pillars that leave the internal floor space free of columns – is also complete. The Neilson Foundation's donation will go towards new exhibitions at the venue, including The Dark, a children's exhibition focusing on 'the new frontiers of discovery', said billionaire founder Kerr Neilson. While Powerhouse Parramatta is expected to open next year, its Ultimo site (which will still house exhibitions) is also undergoing a major renovation. The museum's move to Parramatta has been controversial, with cost blowouts and changes made over concerns the area, next to the river, could flood.

Kavitha drops letter bomb on dad, pans BRS chief's Warangal speech

1 2 3 4 5 6 Hyderabad: In a first in the 25-year history of BRS, party MLC K Kavitha has expressed reservations about the speech of party supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao at the pink party's recent silver jubilee public meeting at Elkathurthy in Hanumakonda district. In a letter, that went public on Thursday, Kavitha provided 'feedback' to her father, stating "people expected some more punch in your speech. But the cadre and leaders are happy". BRS held the public meeting on April 27, but she reportedly wrote the letter on May 5. The purported letter came to light on Thursday on the eve of Kavitha's return to Hyderabad from the US. She was in the US for the past 10 days to attend her son's graduation ceremony. Kavitha noted that some key issues were missing from the BRS president's speech and lacked clarity. She said KCR should have targeted BJP, talked about the Waqf Amendment Act and 42% reservation for BCs, and emphasised on his "inaccessibility to his own party leaders". She also pointed out his speeches were usually peppered with Urdu words and phrases, but were surprisingly missing this time. The six-page handwritten letter, in a mix of Telugu and English, addressed to 'Daddy', listed 20 points, 'eight positive and 11 negative'. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Dark Truth Nobody Talks About! Expertinspector Click Here Undo "You spoke about BJP for just two minutes. This has led to speculations that BRS will align with BJP in the future. Even I personally felt that you should have targeted BJP. Maybe because I suffered. Our party cadre and leaders are of the opinion that Congress has lost credibility at the grassroots, and some people think BJP will emerge as an alternative in the state," Kavitha said. "Another reason for the speculation is that BRS did not contest the MLC election, mainly to help BJP. To address the prevailing political scenario, everyone expected you would provide a special programme or guidelines. At least now, we can hold party plenary for one or two days to mainly hear the opinions from the party cadre and give them direction," she said. The BRS leader made a mention of reported complaints from former ZP chairpersons, ZPTCs, and MLAs that they could not get an appointment with KCR, citing "selective access" to their leader. She advised her father to "kindly reach out to everyone". Regarding leadership and responsibilities, Kavitha said for such a huge meeting, some old hands were given in charge roles, and those who participated in the Telangana movement were ignored. On the positives of the meeting, Kavitha said the big-ticket event boosted the morale of the party cadre, and they stayed till the end listening to the KCR's speech with rapt attention. "Many people liked your mention of Operation Kagaar (sic) and also 'Congress Fail Fail' and (homage to) the Pahalgam victims," she added. "Many people appreciated criticising CM A Revanth Reddy without taking his name, even though he is attacking and criticising you. People think it is your stature," the MLC said. Once again, it was proved that BRS means Telangana, and Telangana means BRS. She mentioned that he should have spoken about changing the Telangana Thalli statue in the speech. "Overall, the participants and people expected some more 'punch' in your speech. But the cadre and leaders are happy," she said, concluding the letter. Party leaders said this was the first time a leader has expressed her opinion openly in the form of a letter in the 25-history of the party. However, there was no official reaction from KCR's office.
