Hyderabad: In a first in the 25-year history of BRS, party MLC K Kavitha has expressed reservations about the speech of party supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao at the pink party's recent silver jubilee public meeting at Elkathurthy in Hanumakonda district.
In a letter, that went public on Thursday, Kavitha provided 'feedback' to her father, stating "people expected some more punch in your speech. But the cadre and leaders are happy".
BRS held the public meeting on April 27, but she reportedly wrote the letter on May 5. The purported letter came to light on Thursday on the eve of Kavitha's return to Hyderabad from the US.
She was in the US for the past 10 days to attend her son's graduation ceremony.
Kavitha noted that some key issues were missing from the BRS president's speech and lacked clarity. She said KCR should have targeted BJP, talked about the Waqf Amendment Act and 42% reservation for BCs, and emphasised on his "inaccessibility to his own party leaders". She also pointed out his speeches were usually peppered with Urdu words and phrases, but were surprisingly missing this time.
The six-page handwritten letter, in a mix of Telugu and English, addressed to 'Daddy', listed 20 points, 'eight positive and 11 negative'.

"You spoke about BJP for just two minutes. This has led to speculations that BRS will align with BJP in the future. Even I personally felt that you should have targeted BJP. Maybe because I suffered. Our party cadre and leaders are of the opinion that Congress has lost credibility at the grassroots, and some people think BJP will emerge as an alternative in the state," Kavitha said.
"Another reason for the speculation is that BRS did not contest the MLC election, mainly to help BJP.
To address the prevailing political scenario, everyone expected you would provide a special programme or guidelines. At least now, we can hold party plenary for one or two days to mainly hear the opinions from the party cadre and give them direction," she said.
The BRS leader made a mention of reported complaints from former ZP chairpersons, ZPTCs, and MLAs that they could not get an appointment with KCR, citing "selective access" to their leader.
She advised her father to "kindly reach out to everyone".
Regarding leadership and responsibilities, Kavitha said for such a huge meeting, some old hands were given in charge roles, and those who participated in the Telangana movement were ignored.
On the positives of the meeting, Kavitha said the big-ticket event boosted the morale of the party cadre, and they stayed till the end listening to the KCR's speech with rapt attention.
"Many people liked your mention of Operation Kagaar (sic) and also 'Congress Fail Fail' and (homage to) the Pahalgam victims," she added.
"Many people appreciated criticising CM A Revanth Reddy without taking his name, even though he is attacking and criticising you. People think it is your stature," the MLC said. Once again, it was proved that BRS means Telangana, and Telangana means BRS. She mentioned that he should have spoken about changing the Telangana Thalli statue in the speech.
"Overall, the participants and people expected some more 'punch' in your speech. But the cadre and leaders are happy," she said, concluding the letter.
Party leaders said this was the first time a leader has expressed her opinion openly in the form of a letter in the 25-history of the party. However, there was no official reaction from KCR's office.

Government confident of Parliament consensus on Yashwant Varma's removal

NEW DELHI: If Justice Yashwant Varma doesn't resign and holds on to his argument of being "innocent", he may earn the unenviable distinction of being the only judge to be removed through Parliament's removal motion, with most parties pledging "unity" on the issue of corruption, of which the three-member SC panel has found him guilty. Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju said most of opposition parties favoured bringing the motion of removal, which may be introduced in the monsoon session (July 21 to Aug 12). Can't approach graft in judiciary through political prism: Rijiju Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju said most of parties favoured bringing the motion of removal, which, by all accounts, may be introduced in the forthcoming monsoon session, scheduled from July 21 to Aug 12. Rijiju said Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) has sent the recommendation for the monsoon session to President Droupadi Murmu. The minister said although opposition parties would formally respond in a couple of days, he had been assured of their support and was confident of the same, as there was no scope for politicking as corruption in the judiciary could not be approached through a "political prism". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villa For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search ads Learn More Undo Rijiju said he would also reach out to smaller parties as govt wants all parties to "jointly" move the motion. "Govt feels the matter related to corruption is not one political party's agenda. It is a stand of all parties to fight against the menace of corruption, whether it is the judiciary or any other space," he said. He , however, said the decision on which House the motion would be brought in - LS or RS - would be taken based on the business of each House. According to the Judges (Inquiry) Act, 1968, once a motion to remove a judge is admitted in any of the Houses, the Speaker or the Chairman, as the case may be, will constitute a three-member committee to investigate the grounds on which the removal has been sought. The committee will consist of the CJI or an SC judge, an HC chief justice and a "distinguished jurist". Meanwhile, Congress said govt had announced dates for the monsoon session 47 days in advance to run away from the opposition's demand for an immediate special session to discuss Pahalgam terror attack and Centre's "failure" to bring the terrorists to justice, the impact of Operation Sindoor and its "blatant politicisation".

ISI trying to influence state polls: Himanta

1 2 Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said Pakistan's ISI is seeking to influence the state election due early next year in favour of its preferred outcome and the process has already started on social media from a call centre set up for the purpose in Kolkata. Sarma said, "The special branch is reviewing about 2,000 Facebook accounts where the owners belonging to a particular community are commenting over the coming polls and half of these handles are operated by handlers from Bangladesh and Pakistan," raising serious concerns about foreign interference in the democratic processes of the country. "This number will increase as the election date draws near because ISI wants that somebody should win. Everything is under my surveillance. I will give the details on Sept 10. There is so much of penetration in Facebook. This is a dangerous situation," Sarma said He said these 2,000 Facebook accounts were opened on a single day, which suggests the use of social media platforms to spread a negative tone that is a common tactic in modern hybrid warfare, where the aim is to destabilize and influence public opinion without overt military action. But Sarma is confident that BJP will win the election again. "In Assam, there is no alternative to BJP for Indian Assamese people. BJP is necessity driven by nationalism, identity, and development. Could Congress have taken the decision to give arm licence to the indigenous people of the state? "BJP is a compulsion for people of Assamese. What Assamese people want, BJP can give and BJP's politics is based on ideologies of Assamese people. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo It is difficult to separate BJP from Assamese people," Sarma said, adding, a "unseen power has been helping BJP, which believes in Santan dharma." He added, "People of Assam for the first time have got a govt of their own. In the last one month, how many Bangladeshis we have pushed back we know, Assamese people cannot imagine. I don't have to say but only BJP can do this because BJP understands the soul of Assam. This is what the people want and BJP wants to do what Assamese people want."

Ex-judges in post-retirement jobs or poll fray hit public trust: CJI

NEW DELHI: Taking a swipe at judges who resign to contest polls, as Calcutta HC's Justice Abhijit Ganguly did last year, or take up govt posts after retirement, CJI B R Gavai said such decisions raised "significant ethical concerns" and could undermine public trust in judiciary's integrity. Delivering a lecture at a round table organised by the UK Supreme Court Tuesday, CJI Gavai said, "If a judge takes up another appointment with the govt immediately after retirement, or resigns from the bench to contest elections, it raises significant ethical concerns and invites public scrutiny. "A judge contesting an election for a political office can lead to doubts regarding the independence and impartiality of the judiciary, as it may be seen as a conflict of interest or as an attempt to gain favour with the govt." He said, "The timing of post-retirement engagements could undermine public's trust in judiciary's integrity, as it could create a perception that judicial decisions were influenced by the prospect of future govt appointments or political involvement." Flagging this tradition of judges accepting post-retirement assignments from govt, which is as old as the institution, Justice Gavai said, "In light of this, many of my colleagues and I have pledged not to accept any post-retirement roles from the govt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo This commitment is an effort to preserve credibility and independence of the judiciary." The first SC judge to accept governorship was Justice S Fazl Ali, whose appointment as Orrisa governor was announced by the Nehru govt in 1952 when he was still a judge of the Supreme Court. Justice Ganguly's plunge into politics immediately after resigning from Calcutta HC and contesting elections on a BJP ticket was dramatic as he had judicially castigated TMC govt in many cases.
