The caption of the post read, 'And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too…. I'll see you on the dark side of the moon,' which is part of the lyrics from the same song, 'Brain Damage.' Pink Floyd's Classic Album Brings The Band To A Milestone Its Only Seen Once Before

Pink Floyd scored a new No. 1 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart in the United Kingdom just last week. The group's Live at Pompeii - MCMLXXII debuted atop the list, adding to its already-impressive run of bestselling titles in the genre. While that live recording begins to descend, the band has another reason to celebrate on the same ranking this frame as an older collection reaches a landmark figure — one that Pink Floyd has only achieved once before. Wish You Were Here celebrates its five hundred and fiftieth frame on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart this week. As it reaches that impressive milestone, the set climbs 10 spots, jumping from No. 35 to No. 25. Surprisingly, despite spending more than a decade on the tally, it has never reached the summit. Instead, it has thus far peaked at No. 3. Pink Floyd has now seen two efforts hit the 550-week milestone on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. The only other release to do so is The Dark Side of the Moon, which not only reached that figure, but long ago passed it. That bestseller still stands as the group's longest-charting success, winning over Wish You Were Here by exactly 100 weeks as of this stretch. Only a handful of other Pink Floyd projects have crossed into triple-digit territory on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. The Wall recently passed 500 appearances. Animals has spent 148 frames on the list, while A Foot in the Door: The Best of Pink Floyd has racked up 123 turns. This week, the legendary rockers occupy four spots on the Official Rock & Metal Albums ranking. Two of those efforts, including Wish You Were Here, make notable gains. The Wall also ascends, rising from No. 38 to No. 29. Meanwhile, The Dark Side of the Moon holds steady at No. 13. Live at Pompeii, after debuting at No. 1, slips slightly to No. 3 in its second frame.

Pink Floyd's Blockbuster Seller Has Never Hit No. 1

It's rare for The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd to fall off the Billboard charts entirely. At some times, it lands on multiple rankings, and in other instances, it ekes out just enough purchases to appear on one or two tallies. Last frame, one of the bestselling albums of all time in America was pushed off the rankings by a slew of Record Store Day releases, making it the relatively uncommon moment when the set isn't present on at least one roster. Now that almost all of those exclusive titles have vacated the competitive lists in the United States, there's room once again for albums that can be relied on to appear almost every frame. That includes The Dark Side of the Moon. This week, the blockbuster release reappears on just two Billboard charts. The Dark Side of the Moon is back at No. 22 on the Vinyl Albums list. It also comes in at No. 30 on the Top Album Sales chart, which ranks all purchases, not just those on vinyl. Luminate reports that in the past tracking frame, The Dark Side of the Moon sold a little more than 2,600 copies in the U.S., though how those are spread between CDs and vinyl records was not shared by the music industry organization. That sum proved to be enough to bring the title back to both charts, although it's actually down double digits from the previous period, when sales hovered just below 3,100 in total. For a project released several decades ago, The Dark Side of the Moon is still performing remarkably well. However, it's not even one of the highest-rising returning favorites this week. The classic effort earns the twelfth loftiest reentry on the Top Album Sales chart and the fourteenth highest comeback on the vinyl-only roster. Despite its incredible popularity and enduring appeal, The Dark Side of the Moon has never reached No. 1 on either of the charts it returns to this frame. It has peaked at No. 2 on the Vinyl Albums list and at No. 7 on the Top Album Sales ranking. It's incredible that the collection has never managed even one turn at the top, especially considering the fact that it has now racked up 359 stays on the vinyl list and 510 turns — just shy of a full decade — on the Top Album Sales roster.

Pink Floyd's Multiple Masterpieces Return During A Quieter Week

Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here return to multiple U.K. charts after ... More Record Store Day excitement settles. (Photo by Michael) A week after Record Store Day releases inundated the United Kingdom's music charts, things are starting to settle — and for some legendary acts, that means a welcome return to familiar territory. Among those making their way back onto multiple tallies is Pink Floyd, as the band brings two of its bestselling efforts to several prominent rankings across the Atlantic. It's not that people stopped buying or listening to the progressive rock, but rather, that the charts simply became too busy with momentarily exciting new offerings. Now that the frenzy has passed, Pink Floyd once again occupies multiple spaces with a handful of collections. When it comes to Pink Floyd's catalog and its latest comebacks, The Dark Side of the Moon is the standout. The full-length appears on four U.K. rosters this frame, returning to half of them after falling off amid the Record Store Day chaos. The classic effort reenters both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums charts, landing at No. 70 and No. 75, respectively. At the same time, The Dark Side of the Moon climbs on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, vaulting from No. 19 to No. 10, finding its way back inside the top 10. But the set doesn't gain ground everywhere. On the Official Album Downloads chart, which counts only digital purchases from platforms like iTunes and Amazon, the title takes a steep tumble, plunging from its all-time high of No. 36 (this version, at least) to No. 85. The Dark Side of the Moon is, of course, one of the bestselling albums in music history. Several versions of the title have charted in the U.K., so while it looks relatively new to some of the lists it's found on at the moment, that's not exactly the full story. Despite being released more than 50 years ago and selling millions of copies, the particular version of The Dark Side of the Moon currently appearing on the Official Albums Sales chart has only spent three frames on the tally, and it peaked at No. 29 – but fans know that's not the all-time best showing for the project. Older editions have performed far better over the decades, climbing higher and spending hundreds of weeks on various rosters. Pink Floyd isn't only scoring with one album this week. Wish You Were Here also manages a comeback. That project is back on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, reappearing at No. 23. Over its lifetime, the set has peaked as high as third place and has racked up an incredible 547 weeks on that genre-specific ranking. Pink Floyd's influence can really be felt on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart this frame, where the group claims not just one or two, but three spots. In addition to The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here, The Wall is also climbing. The sprawling double det nudges its way slightly upward on the ranking, ascending from the last spot — No. 40 — to No. 38.

Roger Waters Rocks Back Onto The Charts With A Highly-Anticipated New Album

Roger Waters' The Dark Side of the Moon Redux live edition returns to four U.K. charts, driven by a ... More Record Store Day vinyl exclusive. LONDON, ENGLAND - JUNE 06: Roger Waters performs on stage at The O2 Arena during the 'This is Not A Drill' tour, on June 06, 2023 in London, England. (Photo by) Roger Waters surprised many in the music industry when he announced plans to re-record The Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd's defining masterpiece. As the former member of the pioneering rock outfit reimagined the iconic project, fans were understandably curious — and many were more than a little skeptical. The result, dubbed The Dark Side of the Moon Redux, dropped in October 2023, offering an altered, introspective take on one of rock's most celebrated collections. That version became a quick hit in the United Kingdom, and now, Waters is back on the charts thanks to a live rendition of the effort. The Dark Side of the Moon Redux reemerges and jumps back onto four charts in that country. While not everyone loved the reworking, this week's success is a clear sign that there's still considerable interest in Waters's updated take on the legendary set. While it's not new to any of the rankings it sits on at the moment, it also wasn't present on any of them just days ago. The live version lands highest on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, where it returns at No. 4. That placement represents the redux set's strongest showing this frame. It manages to reach No. 36 on the Official Vinyl Albums ranking and narrowly misses the top 40 on two additional rosters. The Dark Side of the Moon Redux reenters at No. 44 on the Official Physical Albums tally and No. 45 on the Official Albums Sales list. The Dark Side of the Moon Redux previously reached No. 1 on all four of the charts it revisits this week. Of the quartet, the Official Rock & Metal Albums ranking has been the most welcoming. Waters's revision of the classic collection has now appeared on that tally 14 times – more than any of the others. Its showing on the Official Vinyl Albums chart is less impressive. This latest appearance marks just its fourth frame on that particular list, which tracks the bestselling vinyl titles in the U.K. The latest version of The Dark Side of the Moon is more than just a reissue — it's a live recording, pressed on eye-catching neon pink wax and released for Record Store Day. The performance featured on the vinyl comes from Waters' two sold-out concerts at the London Palladium in October 2023. At the time, the album was still brand new, and fans were eager to experience it in person. This wax pressing constitutes the only live version of Redux currently available.
