Disney Pushes Next Two ‘Avengers' Movies; Dates ‘The Dog Stars' & ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2'

Meanwhile, Avengers: Secret Wars is moving from May 7 to December 17, 2027. Insiders noted that these two films are among the biggest ever made, and the delays simply allow more time to execute on a gargantuan vision. Disney/Marvel elected for December dates, given the success they've had in the holiday corridor with titles like Spider-Man: No Way Home. Disney Sets Release Dates for "The Devil Wears Prada" Sequel, Ridley Scott's "The Dog Stars"
Yara Sameh Disney has shared updates on a pair of high-profile titles from 20th Century Studios: "The Devil Wears Prada 2" , and Ridley Scott's post-apocalyptic thriller "The Dog Stars". News broke last July that a sequel to the 2006 comedy 'The Devil Wears Prada' was officially in the works at Disney. The studio has now officially set a May 1, 2026 theatrical release date for the follow-up. Though it was reported last year that Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt would be returning, no cast members have been officially confirmed. Stanley Tucci, who starred in the original 'Devil Wears Prada,' recently told Variety , 'I know they're working on it. If it happens, I would be so happy, but I cannot give you any information. Otherwise, I'll go to the actor's prison or something. [The original] was one of the best experiences ever. 'The Devil Wears Prada' was based on Lauren Weisberger's dishy 2003 novel about a young woman's nightmarish experience working at a fashion magazine Weisberger worked as a personal assistant for American Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Streep starred as Miranda Priestly, the all-powerful editor-in-chief of the fictional Runway magazine. Hathaway was Andrea Sachs, a fresh-faced journalism graduate who gets the job that 'a million girls would kill for' as Priestly's assistant. Blunt is Priestley's harried first assistant who must show Andy the ropes. Tucci plays Nigel, a longtime fashion editor at Runway who takes Andy under his wing and introduces her to Runway's fashion closet. The next chapter reportedly follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and as she faces off against Blunt's character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs. The official dating of the sequel came amid a sweeping reorganization of Disney's coming theatrical release calendar, which also saw the delay of both 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Avengers: Secret Wars.' Moreover, 'The Dog Stars,' with Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin and Margaret Qualley, is set to open March 27, 2026. Meanwhile, the studio has also set an October 3 theatrical re-release of 'Avatar: The Way of Water' in Imax/3D, ahead of 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' on Dec. 19. In 2022, the studio issued a similar re-release of the original 2009 'Avatar' in anticipation of the release of 'The Way of Water.' read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies

Ridley Scott's forthcoming dystopian thriller The Dog Stars is continuing to cast up after previously landing Jacob Elordi as the lead. A random transmission picked up by the pilot's radio from his 1956 Cessna offers hope for a better life. The Hollywood Reporter reported last month that Elordi was in early negotiations to replace Paul Mescal. Scott told the crowd at a Gladiator II screening in December that Mescal would likely drop out of reteaming with him in The Dog Stars due to the actor being busy with Sam Mendes' four-film Beatles project. Sony has not confirmed Mescal's rumored casting as Paul McCartney. Smith and Cliff Roberts serve as producers on The Dog Stars, which hails from Scott's Scott Free banner.
