Rosie O'Donnell saves pensioner's life while out dining at Dublin restaurant

Comedian Rosie O'Donnell sprang into action while dining at a restaurant in Dublin earlier this week as she came to the rescue of an elderly woman who was choking on a piece of food. The actor, comedian and former talk show host, along with her youngest child Clay, moved to the Irish capital in January just days before Donald Trump returned to office as US President. The pair have been embroiled in a longstanding feud which stretches back nearly two decades, predating Trump's initial presidential run, back when Rosie was still a host on The View. Trump has repeatedly lashed out at her, branding her "disgusting" and "a slob" with "a fat, ugly face." Rosie had been out performing at the International Comedy Club on Wednesday evening and met up with her cousin Mary and her friend Kiki after the gig. The trio headed out to dinner at The Dylan Hotel in Dublin city centre when Rosie noticed a fellow diner who was in distress. The Sleepless in Seattle star took to TikTok on Thursday where she went into detail about the incident, explaining how she sprang into action after spotting that the 90-year-old woman was choking. "I'm eating my tuna tartar and I go, 'that woman is choking! That woman is choking!' "I get up, like nearly knock over the table, and I run over with Kiki and my cousin Mary, we run over to the woman, and I stand her up, and we put Kiki behind her and I put her fist in the right place, and she starts to give her the Heimlich, which she hadn't done before. "I'm holding her hands and talking to her and saying, 'it's okay, it's okay, can you breathe?' And I put my hand near her, and she could not breathe at all and she started getting red into the face, and now my heart is going, you know. "And I'm one of those people who in a crisis, I'm great, but after the crisis, I'm a mess. So it took about a minute [before] I screamed at the top of my lungs in this restaurant, 'call 9-1-1!' So, guess what? There is no 9-1-1. in Ireland, it's 999." Rosie continued: "So, I'm coaching Kiki, who's doing it and I'm telling her what to do and I'm trying to calm the woman down and the daughters are upset. "My cousin Mary puts the napkin in front of her and says 'it's okay, get it out, get it out,' and I pushed Kiki's hand, and she got it, and something came out, a big wad of stuff. "It was unbelievable to me because I was thinking, 'am I going to have to do a tracheotomy?' I took a course, and it told they told you what to do if it wasn't working, and you we were in a dire situation, and we were in a dire situation." "I didn't know. In panic mode I go into thinking I'm Superman or something, and I'm not an EMT. But when I see something like that, I spring into action. "So the woman's name was Angela, she was 90 years old, and we're all sort of crying." Rosie said she was left in a state of shock following the incident and was unable to finish her meal, but noted that Angela had no qualms about tucking back into her food despite the distressing ordeal she had just endured. "So I go back to my table and I can't eat, my heart is going, I'm teary. And I look over, and there's Angela finishing her meal! Honest to God, it was unbelievable," Rosie said, laughing. "But I just wanted to say that if Angela or her daughters are watching, I'm so happy that everything turned out okay, and Angela, I hope you're feeling good this morning. "Really an unbelievable night. You know, sometimes God puts you in the right place at the right time, and you figure out what to do or what to say." Rosie finished off the video by responding to Trump's recent comments about her on his Truth Social platform in which the US President labelled the comedian 'a threat to humanity' and said he was 'giving serious consideration' to taking away her US citizenship. Hitting back at the US Commander-in-Chief, Rosie said: "Even though Donald Trump says I'm a threat to humanity, I'm not a threat to humanity here in Dublin. "I'm saving old women while I'm at dinner." Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest news from the Irish Mirror direct to your inbox: Sign up here.
