Timeline of feud between Paris Jackson and executors

Kevin E G Perry, The Independen In June 2009, Michael Jackson was at home in Los Angeles while preparing for an ambitious 50-show residency at London's O2 Arena when he suffered a cardiac arrest and died. His sudden death sent shockwaves around the world. The 50-year-old singer, widely known as the "King of Pop," left behind one of the most remarkable, and lucrative, music catalogs in history. Nevertheless, his financial affairs were in disarray. It later emerged that at the time Jackson owed more than $500m to various creditors. His estate was placed into the hands of a pair of executors, attorney John Branca and A&R executive John McClain. The estate's beneficiaries were named as Jackson's three children: sons Prince and Bigi and daughter Paris. However, in recent months a public rift has grown between Paris and the estate's executors. The 27-year-old actor and musician has repeatedly raised concerns about "irregular payments" and has accused lawyers of "skimming money" from her father's estate. Here, we look back at how the feud between the estate's executors and beneficiaries has developed: June 25, 2009: The death of Michael Jackson: It was partly his own financial difficulties that convinced Jackson to stage an ambitious 50-show concert residency at London's O2 Arena. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, later said: "He was under enormous pressure. The children told him they were tired of living in hotels and rented places, but Michael was broke... He wanted to do the London shows and then buy a family home, probably in Vegas. But night after night he would tell me he didn't feel he had the capacity to do it." On the day of his death — June 25, 2009 — Murray said Jackson returned home to his rented Beverly Hills mansion at 1am after rehearsals for the shows. 'He was hysterical. He was begging me, 'Please Dr Conrad, I need some milk (Jackson's term for the anaesthetic propofol) so I can sleep.'' Murray admitted to giving Jackson a small quantity of propofol, but claimed that he believed the singer also injected himself from his own stash. Jackson suffered a cardiac arrest, and Murray was convicted in 2011 of involuntary manslaughter and given a four-year jail sentence. January 11, 2024 — Jackson's estate agrees biopic deal Jackson's estate does a deal with Lionsgate and Universal to produce Michael, a biopic of Jackson, directed by Training Day and The Equalizer filmmaker Antoine Fuqua and starring Jackson's nephew Jaafar Jackson in the lead role as the King of Pop. March 22, 2024 — Jackson's son Bigi files to block grandmother Katherine using estate funds for legal battle Jackson's son Bigi — formerly known as Blanket — files a legal motion to prevent his grandmother, Jackson's mother Katherine, of accessing estate funds in order to fund a legal dispute, believed to be over the estate's own recent catalogue deal with record label Sony, worth a rumored $600 million (£476.8m). June 28, 2024 — The full extent of Jackson's financial difficulties become public. Branca and McClain file a petition to the Los Angeles Superior Court seeking legal authorisation to pay several law firms for their services rendered to the estate from July through December 2018. August 22, 2024 — Estate agrees to sell portion of Jackson's songs to Sony for $600 million, despite grandmother's objections. The estate was given the go-ahead by a Los Angeles appeals court to sell a portion of the late pop icon's songs to Sony Music Group for about $600 million. July 11, 2025 — Paris Jackson raises concerns over "irregular payments" made by estate. Jackson's daughter Paris files an objection to the request for legal fees from Branca and McClain. In the filing, she expresses concern about the practice of executors granting "so-called 'premium payments' for unrecorded attorney time." July 15, 2025 — Executors say they've had to deal with 'issues' with Jackson's ex-wife. Branca and McClain revealed they had to deal with "issues" related to one of the King of Pop's ex-wives as they made a plea for legal fees. Jackson was married twice, to Lisa Marie Presley from 1994 to 1996 and to Debbie Rowe, the mother of Paris and her brother Prince, from 1996 to 2000. Bigi was born via surrogate. August 4, 2025 — Paris Jackson alleges lawyers are 'skimming money' from the estate.

Netflix fans loving 'must see' sci-fi thriller despite what reviews say

One fan described it as a 'hot mess' Netflix aficionados can't get enough of a 'hot mess' sci-fi thriller that's been described as a concoction of The Matrix, Avengers, and The Bourne saga. As it stands, Infinite has secured a spot within the top ten movies for UK viewers on Netflix, claiming the ninth position in the platform's film charts. ‌ Initially released in 2021 on various streaming platforms after its cinematic debut was postponed due to the Covid pandemic, Infinite first graced Prime Video before finding its new digital abode on Netflix. ‌ Adapted from D. Eric Maikranz's novel The Reincarnationist Papers, the movie was directed by Antoine Fuqua, celebrated for directing action-packed favourites like Training Day and The Equalizer, which both featured Denzel Washington. Starring Mark Wahlberg as Evan, a man gifted with memories of his past lives and holding the whereabouts of an apocalyptic device, he finds himself pursued by factions wanting the device for their own objectives, reports Surrey Live. Yet, despite Fuqua's notable filmography, Infinite didn't manage to charm critics, scraping together a paltry 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. A viewer expressed their grievances online, stating: "This movie is a mix of The Bourne Identity, The Matrix, Avengers Infinity War rolled into one and it just one big hot mess." They continued: "It doesn't work at all! It's a damn shame too because you would think a movie directed by the same person who directed Training Day and The Equalizer (both great movies) would be good but you'd be wrong." ‌ Another cheekily claimed it's "the 'If Michael Bay directed a Christopher Nolan film' mashup we were all expecting." Yet, despite the mixed reviews, the film's current success on Netflix indicates it has found its audience. One advocate for the film remarked: "I really enjoyed this film. Simply for the odd story. The wonderful cheesiness that kept it feeling a bridge above a B-rated nature. I felt it was an A-." Someone else chimed in: "I'm glad I didn't listen to the reviews! This is a solid movie. I think we are all just spoiled. This is original, with great settings and special effects. Fun weapons. Excellent premise. It's not like any movie I've seen. If you like Kingsman movies, this should be up your alley. Not as funny, a bit silly in places, lots of action." Another person shared their enthusiasm, saying: "Awesome, suspenseful and edge of the seat entertainment. Has everything it needed to make it an instant classic. And leaves you wanting to see more. Great cast and a must see."

Titus Welliver to Play NYPD Officer in MGM+ Crime Drama The Westies, Opposite J.K. Simmons

Titus Welliver is returning to law enforcement — and this time, he's going after the mob. The former Bosch star is joining J.K. Simmons in MGM+'s The Westies, a crime drama centered around the real-life titular Irish-American crime gang in 1980s New York City, our sister site Deadline reports. More from TVLine Spider-Noir: Nicolas Cage Suits Up in Superhero Series for MGM+ and Prime Video - WATCH Jon Hamm to Star in MGM+ Drama American Hostage From EP Shawn Ryan The Equalizer Spinoff Not Moving Forward at CBS More specifically, 'The Westies is set in the early 1980s when the construction of the Jacob Javitz Convention Center on the Westies' home turf in Hell's Kitchen promises a financial windfall for the Irish-American organized crime gang,' per the show's official logline. 'Despite being outnumbered 50-to-1 by the Five Families of the Italian mafia, The Westies' legendary brutality and cunning have given them the leverage necessary to share the spoils through a fragile détente. But internal conflict between the brash younger generation and the old-school leadership threatens to set a match to this powder keg, which will sweep the Westies into the FBI's ever-deepening investigation into the Italian mafia.' Welliver is playing Glenn Keenan, described as a 'troubled NYPD officer who grew up with the Westies crew, torn between loyalty to the law and love for his wayward son.' He'll appear opposite J.K. Simmons as mob boss Eamon Sweeney. Chris Brancato serves as showrunner of The Westies, co-creating and executive-producing alongside Michael Panes. Production on the eight-episode season is set to begin in Toronto in July. Welliver is best known for his 10-season run as Harry Bosch, the titular detective in Bosch and its spinoff Bosch: Legacy. The Legacy series finale dropped April 17, ending Welliver's 10-season run as the police detective from the Michael Connelly novels.
