Bryan Cranston returns as Hal in ‘Malcolm in the Middle' revival: 'I missed him'

Bryan Cranston is officially back as Hal Wilkerson in the upcoming Malcolm in the Middle revival series. In a new interview with People published on May 25, Cranston described his return to the iconic role as 'so rewarding.' 'Slipping back into that character of Hal for me was so rewarding — I missed him,' Cranston said. 'It's been almost 20 years since we said goodbye. He's a sweet, lovable man, and it was fun to see my whole family back together. It was great.' Cranston even shared a personal touch he used to reconnect with Hal's quirky personality — wearing one of Hal's signature short-sleeve patterned shirts. 'It screams out he's not going anywhere,' he joked. The Malcolm in the Middle revival brings back much of the original cast, including Frankie Muniz, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson, and Justin Berfield. Newcomer Caleb Ellsworth-Clark takes over the role of Dewey, and two new characters join the mix: Malcolm's daughter Leah, played by The Fabelmans star Keeley Karsten, and a new sibling, Kelly, portrayed by Vaughan Murrae. The limited-run series is being produced by 20th Television and New Regency. Series creator Linwood Boomer returns as writer and executive producer, alongside Bryan Cranston and a team including Tracy Katsky, Gail Berman, Arnon Milchan, and Ken Kwapis, who will direct all four episodes.

Michelle Williams expands her family with baby No. 4

Actress Michelle Williams has welcomed her fourth child, her third with husband Thomas Kail, via surrogate, PEOPLE reports. The couple, who have kept their personal life private, were spotted around their New York neighborhood with their newborn, who arrived six weeks ago. A source close to the couple shared, "They couldn't be happier to expand their family, and Matilda has been doting on her younger siblings." Williams, 44, is already a mother to Matilda Ledger, 18, whom she shared with the late Heath Ledger, as well as two young children with Kail: Hart, 4, and another child born in 2022. Williams, best known for her work in The Fabelmans and Brokeback Mountain, has been balancing motherhood with her acting career. She recently took a hiatus after The Fabelmans and is now making a return with the upcoming Hulu limited series Dying for Sex, which premieres on April 4, 2025. In a 2023 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Williams spoke about juggling career and motherhood, saying, 'My heart obviously belongs to my children; they tug at it the most. But I really want to be able to have both.' Williams and Kail, a Tony-winning director known for Hamilton, have been married since 2020. While the couple has yet to make an official statement, their growing family is clearly thriving.

David Lynch ‘wanted to go back to work' before his death says Naomi Watts

Mulholland Drive star Naomi Watts says that David Lynch 'wanted to go back to work' before his death in January. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Watts revealed that she had spent an afternoon with Lynch in November, along with Laura Dern, who acted in Lynch's Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart. 'We had a beautiful lunch at his house. I knew he'd been unwell but he was in great spirits. He wanted to go back to work – Laura and I were like, 'You can do it! You could work from the trailer.' He was not, in any way, done. I could see the creative spirit alive in him.' Lynch died after announcing in August 2024 that he had been diagnosed with emphysema and in November revealed that breathing difficulties were preventing him from working on sets, saying: 'I can hardly walk across a room. It's like you're walking around with a plastic bag around your head.' Lynch's final major work as a film-maker was the 2017 series Twin Peaks: The Return, in which both Watts and Dern appeared; he later made a cameo appearance as film director John Ford in Steven Spielberg's 2022 autobiographical drama The Fabelmans. Watts first worked with him on his 2001 drama Mulholland Drive, after the director discovered her photograph in a pile of actors' headshots. Watts added: 'There's a lot I could share [about Lynch] but I want to be private about it because of his family. But it was a really powerful meeting that filled me with just so much love and hope.'

Hulu unveils Dying for Sex trailer starring Michelle Williams

Hulu has released the official trailer for its upcoming provocative series Dying for Sex, featuring Academy Award-nominated actress Michelle Williams in the lead role. The highly anticipated show is set to premiere on April 4. The series follows Molly, a woman diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer, who embarks on a transformative journey of self-discovery. Determined to reclaim her autonomy, she leaves her husband, Steve (played by Jay Duplass), and sets out to explore new experiences and desires. Inspired by the real-life story of Molly Kochan, Dying for Sex is based on the popular podcast hosted by Kochan's best friend, Nikki Boyer. The show delves into themes of empowerment, intimacy, and the pursuit of pleasure despite life's uncertainties. Hulu unveiled the trailer on March 18, offering viewers a glimpse into Molly's unapologetic approach to life. In one scene, Molly confides in her friend Nikki (played by Jenny Slate), revealing her dissatisfaction with her sex life and confessing she has never experienced an orgasm. This sparks the idea of creating an erotic bucket list, leading her to explore online dating. The synopsis emphasizes that Molly is unbothered by judgment, stating, "There's no time for pearl-clutching—Molly has no interest in what others think about her journey." The series boasts an impressive cast, including Rob Delaney, Kelvin Yu, David Rasche, Esco Jouléy, and Oscar-winning actress Sissy Spacek. Fans are eagerly anticipating Williams' return to the screen, marking her first role since The Fabelmans. Reactions to the trailer have been overwhelmingly positive. One fan on X raved, 'Anything with Michelle Williams is a must-watch!' Another praised her performance, writing, 'She has that energy that reels you in—I'll be seated for this.' Notably, Dying for Sex also marks an on-screen reunion for Williams and Slate, who previously starred together in Venom (2018). Hulu's Dying for Sex premieres on April 4.

Martin Short Says Jiminy Glick Has Always Been 100% Improvised — Except for When He Interviewed Steven Spielberg

Martin Short said his popular character Jiminy Glick, the entertainment journalist blowhard known for syaing whatever is on his mind and derailinghis interviews with Hollywood A-listers, was always completely improvised — except for the time he made exception for a segment with Stephen Spielberg. 'They didn't have a clue,' Short said of his improvisational nature with his roster of celebrity guests. Speaking with Amy Poehler on the second episode of her 'Good Hang' podcast, which premiered Tuesday,' the comedian revealed the only thing he ever scripted was with the director of 'Schindler's List' and 'The Fabelmans.' 'I said to Steven, 'At one point, I'm going to ask you to describe how you view the role of a director and kind of look off,'' Short said of his instructions to the filmmaker prior to their shoot. 'And so what we planned, and it was the only time we ever planned anything like this, he was talking, the cameras stayed with me and I slowly got down in the chair and crawled to craft services and took all the candies — put three donuts, put them in my pocket, crawled back up in the chair, I said, 'Oh, isn't that wonderful? Now …'' Watch Short's full 'Good Hang' appearance with Poehler below. He discusses Jiminy Glick around the 42-minute mark. Jiminy Glick is an entertainment reporter Short crafted for NBC sitcom 'The Martin Short Show' in 1999. The character went on to nab a spinoff on Comedy Central titled 'Primetime Glick,' which aired on the network from 2001 to 2003. The talk show parody featured celebrity guests as Glick's interviews, whom he typically knew nothing about or had no interest in. 'We love morons with power. We love people who — I mean, to me, the idea that Jiminy Glick was a guy who had a staff working for him and someone was afraid of screwing up the lunch order,' Short said as he broke into character. ''I said tuna when I say dijon mustard does not mean French's,' and they're quivering. It's kind of like, can you imagine the staff when they leave after delivering Trump his 48th thing of Kentucky Fried Chicken, what they're privately saying.' Short again breaks into character, this time a Trump impression: ''I don't call this hot.'' 'The thing that was weird for me doing Jiminy Glick was that, because it was improvised, I would say things that even shocked me afterwards,' Short said. 'Like, I remember interviewing Edie Falco and she was in the middle of an answer and I went, 'Shh, just 'cause I asked you a question does not mean that I need an answer, thank you.' And she said afterward she was really thrown because being shushed was her Achilles heel as a kid, so you can see it. And it was all so insane, so insane.' When Poehler told Short that she and Tina Fey exchange funny Jiminy Glick videos to this day, Short said he believes the interest in the character is rooted in how he is allowed to display the most unhinged and untamed behavior without any consequences. 'I think it is that ability to say the worst things and have no fingerprints on it,' Short explained, giving another example of his big Hollywood attendees. 'Like I said to Mel Brooks, 'What's your big beef for the Nazis?' And he just kind of goes, 'My big beef? My big beef?' I said, 'You're always knocking the Nazis. Ohh, it's time for Mel Brooks to knock the Nazis.' And he goes, 'I don't know, they're rude!'' Check out Short's original interview with Spielberg below.
