Female-Centric Biblical Series ‘The Faithful' Based on Book of Genesis Ordered at Fox From ‘CSI' Producer Carol Mendelsohn

Fox has given a series order to 'The Faithful,' a Biblical series centered on five women from the Book of Genesis. Carol Mendelsohn executive produces the project via her overall deal at the network. 'The Faithful' will run for six episodes over the course of three weeks around Easter and Passover and follow Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah, Leah and Rachel, whose descendants were foundational figures in Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Per the logline, the series is told through the eyes of the courageous and passionate, yet flawed women' and tells stories of 'discovering and losing love, the challenges of marriage, the joys and heartbreak of children, confronting temptation and finding faith.' Rene Echevarria wrote the pilot serves as showrunner and executive producer. The series comes from Fox Entertainment Studios and is distributed by Fox Entertainment Global. ''The Faithful' follows the Old Testament's heroic, Biblical matriarchs and opens a new lane of storytelling at Fox,' said Michael Thorn, president of Fox Television Network. 'This show is the definition of strong, female character-driven storytelling, exploring timeless themes that originated thousands of years ago, yet remain startlingly modern and relatable. Carol, Julie and Rene bring unbelievable depth, dimension, intimacy and surprise to stories so many think they know but will completely rediscover through this powerful new lens.' See Fox's descriptions for the major characters below. Sarah & Hagar Sarah feels incomplete without the child that has been promised to her and her husband, Abraham, by God. After braving isolation, famine, the ire of Pharaoh, and several more years of barrenness, she resorts to her own plan to bring a child into the world involving her maidservant Hagar and Abraham. However, jealousy soon sets in after Hagar gives birth to Ishmael (from whom the prophet Mohammed will descend). Then a miracle happens. Though well past her childbearing years, Sarah and Abraham conceive and have a son of their own, Isaac. Lineage, birthrights, and personal freedom are at odds with long-held grievances and shattered love. Rebekah After a difficult and painful pregnancy, Rebekah prophetically learns that she will birth twins who will be divided and that the elder will serve the younger. Her sons exist in conflict from the very start, with Jacob literally holding onto his brother Esau's heel during birth. While her husband, Isaac, is firm in the right of succession for Esau, Rebekah is equally convinced that Jacob is the most deserving one to be the rightful heir. After watching the boys grow into very different men, she is determined to cajole, manipulate, and even deceive Isaac, now on his deathbed, to ensure that Jacob is the chosen one. By executing the ultimate deception, Rebekah sets the stage for one of history's most paramount moments of brother against brother, family destiny, and fulfilled prophecy. Leah & Rachel Once the best of friends, Leah and her younger sister, Rachel, both yearn for Jacob's heart and hand in marriage. But Jacob's heart is with Rachel, whose beauty has captivated him. However, on Jacob and Rachel's wedding night, her father tricks Jacob and sends Leah into the marriage tent instead of Rachel. So now he is compelled to marry Leah as well, forcing the sisters into a bitter rivalry for Jacob's love. While Rachel has his heart, it's Leah who presents Jacob with his firstborn son (and many more to follow). Rachel eventually births a son, Joseph, but the pregnancy and delivery nearly kill her. As Jacob, the rivalrous sisters and their clan return to the promised land of Canaan, Rachel makes the ultimate sacrifice to complete their family. Between them, the sisters bore the famed twelve tribes of Israel, from whom will descend Moses, Joshua, and eventually, two thousand years later, Jesus of Nazareth. ‘Lopez vs. Lopez' and 'Night Court' Canceled After Three Seasons Apiece at NBC

NBC has canceled Lopez vs. Lopez and Night Court after three seasons apiece. The cancellations come on the final business day before NBC's upfront — when networks pitch advertisers on their coming slates — on Monday. Night Court aired its third season finale, which will now serve as a series ender, on Tuesday — although sources say Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show with Universal TV, may try to find a new home for the series. More from The Hollywood Reporter Biblical Drama 'The Faithful' Greenlit at Fox Josh Charles to Star in 'Doc Martin' Adaptation at Fox How 'Long Bright River' Star Amanda Seyfried and Showrunner Nikki Toscano Recast the True Crime Formula This Night Court stars Melissa Rauch (who also executive produces) as Abby Stone, a judge in Manhattan's often chaotic night court and the daughter of Harry Stone, the lead character in the original 1984-92 series (who was played by the late Harry Anderson). John Larroquette reprised his role from the original series as attorney Dan Fielding; the season three cast also includes Lacretta, Nyambi Nyambi and Wendie Malick. Marsha Warfield made several appearances as Roz, her character in the prior series. Showrunner Dan Rubin executive produced Night Court with Rauch, Winston Rauch, Larroquette, Mat Harawitz, Lon Zimmet, Lindsey Shockley and Mona Garcea. Lopez vs. Lopez starred George Lopez and his real-life daughter Mayan Lopez. George (George) wrestles with his sobriety and getting older while Mayan (Mayan) is getting married. Lopez vs. Lopez also starred Selenis Leyva, Brice Gonzalez, Matt Shively and Al Madrigal. Universal Television produced Lopez vs. Lopez in association with Mohawk Productions, Travieso Productions, Mi Vida Loba and 3 Arts. NBC will likely reduce the number of primetime hours devoted to entertainment programming next season as it makes room for primetime NBA telecasts. Still awaiting word on next season are Lopez vs. Lopez on the comedy side and dramas Brilliant Minds, Found, Grosse Pointe Garden Society, The Hunting Party, The Irrational and Suits LA. How BBC is keeping Celebrity Traitors secret after rumoured line-up 'leaks'

Secrets about Celebrity Traitors are slowly being revealed after the rumoured line-up leaked before filming even began. The beloved BBC programme, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, is hitting screens for a celebrity version after three successful civilian series. For the uninitiated, The Traitors sees contestants take on challenges to try and win prize money by day, but at night, they're split into two groups: The Traitors and The Faithful. The former are tasked with killing off members of the latter group, but no one is sure who is who. To avoid being 'murdered' at night, the contestants have to try and discover who is really a Traitor and who is lying, leading to some explosive banishments. Season one of the hit programme saw team Faithful split a whopping jackpot three ways before Harry Clark stole over £95,000 right from under his friends' noses in series two, leading to him being declared the 'Ultimate Traitor'. And earlier this year, two more Faithful managed to make it to the very end and win a huge five-figure sum. Now, celebrities are taking part in the game, with a leaked line-up reportedly revealing who will be playing. Here is what you need to know. It's been said Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway, Jonathan Ross, Sir Stephen Fry and Alan Carr will all be taking part in the murder mystery gameshow. Want to get all the latest news and predictions for the best and most dramatic show this new year? Join our The Traitors WhatsApp channel for live episode coverage, behind-the-scenes gossip and a place to recover from all the cliffhangers. Simply click on this link, select 'Join Chat' and you're in! Don't forget to turn on notifications! In the 'leaked' line-up, they're joined by comics Lucy Beaumont, Joe Wilkinson, singers Paloma Faith, Charlotte Church and a whole host of other stars. Typically, the BBC has kept details about The Traitors under wraps until the very last minute, such as where the contestants sleep, with some secrets still remaining shrouded in mystery. And they're said to be taking things a step further for the celebrity edition. Before the 'leaked' line-up was reportedly revealed, a source claimed 'a military-style operation' was in place to transport the stars to Ardross Castle in Scotland. The A-listers were said to be travelling to Inverness Airport from their homes across the world by a variety of means including planes, trains, cars and even boats. As if that wasn't enough, it was claimed a 'no-fly zone' would be in place over the venue to prevent drone photographers from capturing any scenes. An insider recently told The Sun: 'For a show with secrecy and shocking plot twists at its heart, navigating the celebrity version has been a real puzzler. 'Casting the likes of TV presenter Kate Garraway, former rugby star Joe Marler and singer Paloma Faith creates a situation which is a lot more open to leaks and gossip than recruiting a call centre manager from Liverpool or a retired opera singer. 'So execs have worked really hard to lock down every inch of the production. 'Instead of a simple travel process which could be open to leaks, celebrities will all arrive via various methods of transport. 'And there's a no-fly zone already in place over Ardross Castle and the surrounding area to stop any preparations being snapped, or any of the action during filming. 'Preserving the magic of the show has become an obsession.' So far, the stars are keeping their stint on the show a big secret too, with Kate's Good Morning Britain star's quipping she'd make 'an excellent Traitor' while Sir Stephen played coy when asked by Metro. He said: 'I can say that the BBC would slice off my testicles if I were to comment publicly on the possibility of such a thing as dwelling in a castle in Scotland for a week or two – or indeed for a day or two, quite likely. 'I would be fired in the driveway, which is the thing they sometimes do, isn't it, before you even get there, if you say the wrong thing.' 'I think it's brilliant. I'm not usually a fan of what you might call reality TV, but I think of it more as a game than reality TV, it's just a very clever game, simple but complex as well,' he added. The Traitors season three came to an end earlier this year with Faithfuls Leanne Quigley and Jake Brown splitting the £94,600 prizepot. More Trending After weeks of lies, betrayal, brutal murders and shocking banishments, they walked away with the five-figure sum, and mum-of-two Leanne later told Metro: 'The whole game was just a whirlwind. I really, really enjoyed myself while we were in the castle. 'And I think the best thing to come out of it for me is the friendships that I've made with everybody, they're all such incredible people.' Metro has approached the BBC for comment, though we understand the leaked line-up is speculation and no official announcement has been made.
