'Modern Family' star quotes classic scene in coming out post: 'I'm gay!' Show Caption Hide Caption 'Modern Family': Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould talk growing up on show Known for playing Alex and Luke Dunphy on ABC's "Modern Family," Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould talk growing up before the fans' eyes over the decade. USA TODAY Lily from "Modern Family" is all grown up, and she's celebrating Pride Month right. Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, who starred as Mitchell and Cameron's daughter Lily Tucker-Pritchett on the ABC sitcom for nine seasons, took to Instagram to share that she is bisexual — and she did so by quoting a famous scene from the show. In the post, Anderson-Emmons lip-synched to audio from a "Modern Family" scene where her character Lily announces, while at a restaurant with her parents, "I'm gay! I'm gay!" She captioned the clip, "People keep joking so much abt me being gay when I literally am (I'm bi)." "Happy pride month to all and to all a goodnight hehehe," she added in the caption. The original clip comes from the Season 4 episode "The Future Dunphys," in which Lily announces that she is gay. But it soon becomes clear this is because she's under the impression that the fact that her parents are gay makes her gay. Mitch and Cam subsequently take Lily out to a Vietnamese restaurant to teach her about her heritage. But Lily has no interest, declaring that she hates Vietnam and that "I'm not (Vietnamese), I'm gay!" Tim McGraw's daughter Gracie McGraw comes out as queer: 'Happy freaking Pride' In a May interview with Entertainment Tonight, Anderson-Emmons noted that the scene has become "unescapable" for her online. "My comment section, I could post anything, and there will be at least one comment that's like, 'I hate Vietnam!'" she said. "Honestly, I'm here for it, though." 'Modern Family' star Eric Stonestreet talks weight loss, Mounjaro and facing stigma Anderson-Emmons also revealed to Entertainment Tonight that she has been rewatching the show for the first time. "I started to realize, 'Oh, wow, people have seen more of me at that age than I have seen me at that age, and they remember more than I do," she explained. "So I was like, 'I should go back and watch.'" Anderson-Emmons starred as Lily on "Modern Family" beginning in the show's third season, when she was four years old, and stayed a part of the cast through the series finale in 2020. She is also a singer and released the single "Telephones and Traffic" in May. In an Instagram post on June 16, Anderson-Emmons teased that she has "new music coming soon," with her song "Don't Forget Me" set to drop on June 27.
