Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds praises Derry-born captain James McClean comparing him to ‘grumpy' Samuel L Jackson
McClean has caused controversy in the past over his vocal political stances. Besides his footballing prowess and status as Wrexham's captain, McClean is also known for his refusal to wear a poppy during matches. But Reynolds, who bought over Wrexham FC back in 2020 with Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney, has lavished praise on the midfielder. 'There is a burning, fearsome, 5000 kelvin oven inside that guy that is remarkable, and one of my favourite players to watch,' the Deadpool actor said. The 48-year-old The Hitman's Bodyguard actor went on to compare the Londonderry-born sportsman to his 'grumpy' co-star and Hollywood icon Samuel L Jackson. Speaking to the Fearless in Devotion Podcast, Reynolds said: 'I grew up as the youngest of four boys, right, I have a people-pleasing gene in me somewhere. I always love the guys that don't have that,' he said. 'I gravitate towards grumpy people. Samuel L Jackson can be a grumpy person and he's one of my favourite human beings on planet earth because of it. 'I love it. James has a bit of that.' McClean captained the Wrexham side which was promoted to the Championship this year marking the third promotion for the club since Reynolds and McElhenney bought it. The Marvel actor's 'favourite' player scored four goals in his 41 games with the Welsh team. Following stints with Derry City, Sunderland, West Brom and Stroke City, McClean joined the team in the summer of 2023. In his first season, he helped elevate the club from League Two to League One. The player who once bore a 'Free Derry' tattoo and compared British soldiers to 'terrorists' is known for stirring controversy with his political beliefs and recently caused a stir by branding the city of Shewsbury, as a 'cesspit'. Last November, McClean refused to wear a football shirt with the Remembrance Day poppy on it for their match against Mansfield. During the League One fixture he stood away from his teammates during a minutes silence to maintain the stance he has taken for over a decade in the Premier League – he first refused to wear the emblem at Sunderland in 2012. 'The poppy represents for me an entire different meaning to what it does for others,' he wrote on Instagram in November. 'Am I offended by someone wearing a poppy? No absolutely not, what does offend me though is having the poppy try be forced up on me. 'If the poppy's purpose was to honour World War one and two, then I would have no issue wearing it.' Coronation Street fans were recently introduced to Kevin Webster's brother, Carl, played by Jonathan Howard. The character arrived on one of the nation's beloved streets to support Kevin (Michael Le Vell) through his treatment for prostate cancer. However, he has also since discovered that their sister Debbie (Sue Devaney) was having tests for young-onset dementia. But many Corrie viewers might not know that in real life, the actor is married to a famous Hollywood star – wondering who it is? Jonathan is married to the actress Elodie Yung, known for her roles in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Daredevil, The Hitman's Bodyguard and many other popular films. More recently, the 44-year-old who is originally from Paris, played the character of Thony De La Rosa in The Cleaning Lady. Jonathan and Elodie reportedly live in America and have one daughter, who was born in 2018. Jonathan's first appearance on the ITV soap came following a minor collision in Frescho's car park with Abi Wester (Sally Carman), who he didn't know was married to his brother Kevin. Following a spark between the two in the car park, Carl then asked to take Abi out for a drink but little did he know she was his sister-in-law, despite her insisting she was married. However, sometime later, Carl and Abi met again in the Bistro on the cobbles when Carl showed up to surprise his family, which was followed by an awkward handshake between the pair, as they pretended to meet for the first time. Similar to his wife in real life, Jonathan has also appeared in Hollywood productions including a Marvel movie. In 2013, he was cast in the Brad Pitt post-apocalyptic film, World War Z and in the same year, he starred alongside Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman in the Marvel hit, Thor: The Dark World, as Ian Boothby. Speaking to Radio Times and other media outlets, Jonathan shared that his Corrie character Carl could he hiding a big secret. He revealed: 'We'll find out, why have I left Germany? Nina Dobrev Joins Movie "Bear Country"
Nina Dobrev is set to join Russell Crowe and Kartiah Vergara in "Bear Country", the action thriller helmed by Derrick Borte that's currently shooting in the Australian state of Queensland. An adaptation of the novel Strip by Thomas Perry, "Bear Country" stars Crowe as the aging yet formidable club owner, Manco Kapak, who has been robbed by a masked gunman. Now, his aspirations of selling his club and riding off into the sunset alongside his girlfriend appear more distant than ever. Cartel bosses are breathing down his neck and a young upstart has been posing as the new guy in town eager to purchase the club. Dobrev plays a quirky bank teller who gets involved in crimes inspired by her Bonnie-and-Clyde-like fantasies. Borte adapted the screenplay with Daniel Forte. Producers include Mark Fasano (Marlowe) of Nickel City Pictures; Jeffrey Greenstein (The Hitman's Bodyguard) of A Higher Standard; Deborah Glover (Sleeping Dogs) of G2 Dispatch; and Mark Bower and Bruno Mustic of Life & Soul Pictures. The adaptation is supported by the City of Gold Coast and by the Australian Government through the Location Offset. Dobrev recently starred in the action thriller "The Bricklayer" opposite Aaron Eckhart, the Netflix action comedy "The Out-Laws", produced by Adam Sandler, and the romantic comedy "Love Hard", which debuted as the #1 film in the world on Netflix. She also starred in and exec produced "Sick Girl" and played a lead in "Run This Town" opposite Ben Platt. Her previous work also includes "Flatliners" for Sony and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", directed by Stephen Chbosky.
