‘Goodbye…': British passenger's Instagram post before boarding Air India flight in Ahmedabad goes viral
London-based yoga enthusiast Jamie Meek had just wrapped up a memorable trip to Gujarat with his partner, Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek, when the couple shared a series of Instagram stories capturing their final night in India. In a post shared late Wednesday night, Jamie reminisced about their 'mind-blowing' experiences, calling their time in India a 'magical experience' as he reflected on their journey. 'It's our last night in India,' he wrote, tagging their stay at The House of MG, a heritage hotel in Ahmedabad. 'This hotel,' he captioned a glimpse of the property. Jamie, who is also the director of The Wellness Foundry, a London-based centre for tarot and spiritual wellness, said spending their last night at the hotel and enjoying a traditional Gujarati thali was 'a perfect way to round up the trip'. 'There's been too much... It would be so nice to remember this and share it with everybody because we really have been on quite a journey,' he said in one of the stories. 'We've just had the most delicious thali food. It was a perfect way to round up the trip. So yeah, excited to share it all with you actually.' In another video, Fiongal added: 'So it's our last night in India. Uh and we've had a magical experience really. It's been, yeah, there's been some quiet mind blowing... mind blowing things have happened... we are going to put this all together and create a vlog. I think it's my first ever vlog... we're going to make a vlog about the whole trip. Yeah and share it.' On Thursday morning, just before boarding Air India flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, Jamie posted a final story: 'Goodbye India...' In a video recorded at the airport, the couple joked about their journey: Fiongal said, 'We are at the airport, just boarding. Goodbye India.' Jamie replied, 'Goodbye. It's a 10-hour flight back to England.' Fiongal then asked, 'What is your biggest takeaway, Jamie?' Jamie responded, 'I've done this already.' Fiongal insisted, 'On a different thing.' Jamie replied, 'What's my biggest takeaway... I don't know.' Fiongal quipped, 'Yeah, fascinating, great. Thanks for your contribution (laughs). My biggest takeaway is don't lose patience with your partner.' Jamie added, 'You're already starting to. You've already while we're having chai at the airport. You can see you've learnt nothing.' Fiongal concluded with a smile, 'Going back happily, happily, happily calm.'

Ahmedabad plane crash victim's final ‘Goodbye India' post is now a haunting reminder of life's uncertainty
A routine farewell video shared by a British passenger just before boarding Air India Flight AI171 has now become a haunting reminder of the tragic flight that never made it home. The video, recorded at Ahmedabad airport by Jamie Ray Meek, captured a calm and smiling goodbye just hours before the aircraft crashed minutes after takeoff, killing all 242 people onboard. What began as a peaceful end to a holiday has now become one of the final glimpses into the lives lost in one of the worst aviation disasters in recent memory. A Calm Farewell Before Disaster Jamie Meek, a yoga practitioner and director of The Wellness Foundry, had been visiting Gujarat with his partner, Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek. On the night before their flight, the couple posted a series of Instagram stories from their stay at The House of MG, a heritage hotel in Ahmedabad. Meek reflected on the "magical experience" of the trip, calling the evening complete after enjoying a traditional Gujarat thali. The next morning, he filmed a short video at the airport, appearing relaxed and in good spirits. 'We are at the airport just boarding. Goodbye India on a 10-hour flight back to London,' he said. Speaking alongside Fiongal, he shared a light-hearted reflection: 'My biggest takeaway is to not lose your patience with your partner... Going back happily, happily, happily calm.' The video has since been widely shared online, offering a deeply human perspective just moments before disaster struck. Crash Details and Immediate Response Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, took off from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:38 PM, bound for London Gatwick. Within minutes, the aircraft lost altitude and crashed near Dharpur in the Meghaninagar area. Eyewitnesses reported thick smoke rising from the crash site as emergency teams rushed to the scene. The flight carried 169 Indian nationals, 53 British passengers, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian. Among the victims was Meek, along with his partner. Air India confirmed that no one survived the crash. A helpline has been set up to assist families: 1800 5691 444. Global Reactions and Support Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the crash as 'heartbreaking beyond words' and directed senior ministers to visit Ahmedabad and lead relief efforts. Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu and Home Minister Amit Shah were both asked to ensure all assistance is provided to the affected families. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the news 'devastating,' and said he was being briefed as the situation developed. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy expressed his sorrow online, confirming that crisis teams had been deployed in both London and Delhi to support those impacted. Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles III is being kept informed. Russian President Vladimir Putin also extended his condolences to India, calling it a tragic event and offering sympathy to the families.
