Elizabeth Hurley Cast in 'Mischievous' Career-First Role and Fans Are Already 'Obsessed'
Elizabeth Hurley has landed a head-turning new gig! Marking her return to TV screens—her last TV show appearances included Runaways and The Royals from 2015 through 2019—the 59-year-old actress has been cast as 'The Deceseased,' a dead, glamorous benefactor in a gripping new series. Appearing in The Inheritance, which will air on the UK's Channel 4, it also marks her foray into a competition series that's described as very high-stakes. Per the synopsis, 'Thirteen strangers are summoned to a grand stately home. They are there to compete for part of the fortune left in the will of The Deceased.' It teases that 'winning the money won't be easy' as 'The Deceased had a wicked sense of humor and has designed a mischievous game to ensure only the best players can get their hands on her inheritance.' The executor and trusted legal counsel for Hurley's character, who will be keeping a "watchful eye," will be played by lawyer and British TV personality Robert Rinder. Contestants will have to work as a team to complete The Deceased's final request, including 'a series of devilishly difficult assignments that will demand they are clever, collaborative and cunning,' however, the twist is that only one player can claim the money gained in each request. Hurley released a statement calling it a 'thrill to be part of this clever game.' And fans shouldn't be surprised that the model will bring her A-game, noting, 'It all takes place on her huge estate in the English countryside, and she dresses to the nines in every scene.' Fans can also expect it to be as gripping and have the same allure as The Traitors, considering it hails from the same team, Studio Lambert. Steven Handley, Channel 4's Head of Reality & Entertainment, described the upcoming 12-episode show as "part Knives Out, part Succession", previously teasing the inclusion of "British icon" now revealed to be Hurley. 'The Inheritance isn't just a battle of strategy, alliances, and inevitable betrayals - it's a cocktail of drama, jeopardy, and outright mischief that Reality fans love. I can't wait to see how our players handle the challenges, the twists, and a few sneaky surprises, Handley revealed, per Deadline. Immediately following the reveal, fans took to the comments with reactions such as, "This looks insane 😍" "Hooked already ❤️ can't wait to see" "Obsessed already" and "This sounds very hardly wait to see it !!! ❤️🙌🔥😍🌟💞👌." 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

Liz Hurley playing The Deceased on a Channel 4 game show? It's camp and it's on-trend
What's this week's biggest casting announcement? Kieran Culkin and Elle Fanning set to enliven The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping? Carey Mulligan tipped for Greta Gerwig's Narnia film? How about Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig 'in talks' to brood through Damien Chazelle's new prison project? It's none of the above, obviously. It's the news that 'actress, model and British icon' Elizabeth Hurley will play The Deceased in Channel 4's 'wickedly immersive new reality series' The Inheritance later this year. This is either going to be excruciatingly unwatchable or the most amazing thing on the channel since the Countdown board was arranged to spell 'GOBSHITE' for eight points. But who is The Deceased and what's her motivation? She's a 'fabulously glamorous benefactor', according to Channel 4, and she has the kind of sense of humour that you don't encounter every day – even if it does seem to have become a little less rare of late. READ MORE For laughs, she has designed a mischievous game that will make things complicated for the 13 strangers who fancy a piece of the fortune she has left behind. These strangers have been summoned to a stately home to work as a team to complete The Deceased's 'devilishly difficult' final requests, overseen by The Executor, aka barrister-turned-broadcaster Rob Rinder. Alas, only one player can claim the money won each time, so they must persuade the others that they alone deserve the cash they earned together, with the victor being the person most adept at out-scheming their competition. Insert your own corporate workplace metaphor here. Just as a sidebar, I googled 'liz hurley the deceased' on Wednesday, and the top result was Google AI assuring me that she is 'alive and well'. Thanks, Google AI. I like to keep an eye on Hurley because I feel a certain kinship with her ever since I went to a 1990s-themed party – one of those recessionary cosplay things – wearing a black maxi dress customised to look like her Versace safety-pin gown in a very dim light. So I'm confident that screen-wise what she excels at is rocking up to various shows being effortlessly camp. Channel 4 does indeed assure us that The Inheritance will be camp, with Liz promising that The Deceased 'dresses to the nines in every scene'. It will also be 'cut-throat and completely gripping', which either points a fatal fondness for alliteration or is another way of saying 'this is definitely as good as The Traitors, we swear'. [ The Traitors Ireland: Slane Castle heir on how reality TV show marks new chapter for a venue 'full of stories' Opens in new window ] The Inheritance, co-produced by The Traitors UK makers Studio Lambert, doesn't exist in a vacuum. It continues a pattern of actors – and not perennially out-of-work Joey Tribbiani-type actors either – signing on to headline a new-ish breed of TV confections that sit at the intersection of gameshow and reality series. Actors have long presented gameshows, of course, but the names now muscling in on the patch are becoming starrier, more acclaimed and more likely to prompt speculation about the big pay cheques that must have been waved in their face. It began in the US, where its version of The Traitors is presented by Scottish actor Alan Cumming, the host with the most major acting awards. Does his Emmy for the persona he adopts while presenting the reality competition series rank among them? He would probably say so. 'I act my socks off in The Traitors, just like I did on The Good Wife,' he said last year . You can see why there was a long queue of people keen to front The Traitors Ireland – an honour that went to Sister Michael herself, actor Siobhán McSweeney . There's no better example of the trend than Jamie Foxx, who won the best actor Oscar in 2005 and now hosts Fox gameshow Beat Shazam. The industry being the international affair that it is, this is filmed in Dublin, meaning Jamie Foxx got to visit Johnnie Fox's pub. But the phenomenon also thrives outside the US, with ITV recently gifting us Genius Game with video-link inserts from David Tennant. This show was baffling in so many respects that the question 'why is David Tennant fronting an ITV gameshow?' was the least of it, frankly. Maybe he wanted to emulate fellow Rivals star Danny Dyer, erstwhile host of The Wall. [ Genius Game review: David Tennant's new show deserves to be sent to dunce's corner Opens in new window ] I did enjoy the bit on Genius Game where one of the contestants explained that it was 'not just about being the best, but knowing when to be the best and when not to be the best' – a strategy I plan to implement at work. Speaking of The Irish Times, I must inform my more televisual-minded colleagues that the dream is over. The dream of having a CV that includes both 'journalist for The Irish Times' and 'well-paid gameshow host', like the late Henry Kelly of Going for Gold, is toast. It's an A-lister business now. Everyone else is playing catch-up.

The Inheritance's Elizabeth Hurley plays dead woman in Traitors-style show
Get ready for your new TV addiction this autumn with The Inheritance as the Traitors-style show debuts a first-look trailer, starring Elizabeth Hurley and Rob Rinder. Pulling in the star power for the new launch, it features Hurley in a dramatic role as "The Deceased" as she poses in front of a white frilly coffin while wearing a glamorous sequinned gown. She gives a flavour of what's to come in the Channel 4 series and explains what the game of alliances and betrayal will involve, as viewers also get a glimpse of her co-star Rob Rinder. A first-look trailer and image has been released for the new immersive reality show, with Hurley posing in a coffin as The Deceased. She plays the character of a recently-deceased wealthy woman whose will is being handled by executor and trusted legal counsel Rinder. A first image from the series features Rinder standing alongside glamorous benefactor Hurley, sitting up in her coffin. In a first trailer for The Inheritance, Hurley explains more about what to expect from the series, as well as what her role will be. Standing in front of the coffin, she says: "I play a glamorous and mysterious benefactor, known only as The Deceased." Cutting to a shot of a grand country estate, she continues: "The Deceased lived here, in this beautiful house on a vast country estate, and following her untimely death has left behind a fortune to be claimed." Hurley explains a little more about what players will be aiming to do and as Rinder appears on the front steps of the house, she adds: "The wonderful Robert Rinder is executor of the will and he'll be keeping a watchful eye on the would-be heirs and heiresses. I can't wait for you all to see it when it comes to Channel 4 this autumn." If the forthcoming Channel 4 series appears to have vibes of The Traitors about it, that may be because it comes from the same production company, Studio Lambert. Like the hit BBC One series, it is set in a luxurious country estate and requires players to work as a team on challenges, but ultimately betray each other to bag the prize money. Across 12 episodes, 13 players will have to complete the tricky assignments The Deceased has included in her will and use their cunning and wit to secure the money attached to each final request. But there's a twist - only one player can claim the money from each request, so they must manage to convince the rest of the group that they alone deserve to get the cash that they all earned. A Channel 4 description of the show reads: "The Inheritance is a game of wit, willpower, persuasion and betrayal, where it's not about who deserves the money, but who is willing to outplay, out-charm and out-scheme the competition to claim it. It is camp, cut-throat and completely gripping." Hurley said: "It's a thrill to be part of this clever game, playing The Deceased; it all takes place on her huge estate in the English countryside and she dresses to the nines in every scene. Tune in this autumn to catch The Inheritance on Channel 4." Rinder added: "This is a high-stakes strategy game served with a side of scheming and sabotage. As The Executor I enforce the rules, keep the chaos in check - more or less - and make sure our players are deserving of every glittering penny left by our dearly departed deceased, played by the iconic Elizabeth Hurley." Since the runaway success of The Traitors, it's no surprise that plenty of other shows have tried to emulate its popularity. Studio Lambert are trying their luck at Channel 4 this time, but The Inheritance is just the latest in a long list of immersive reality TV series. The cast for the long-awaited Celebrity Traitors has recently been announced, which is set to welcome the likes of Stephen Fry, Kate Garraway, Paloma Faith and Alan Carr to the castle later this year. Over on ITV, Stephen Mangan will host The Fortune Hotel again for a second season which sends pairs of contestants to a luxury Caribbean resort for its game of alliances and persuasion. In March, Netflix launched its own Traitors-esque show Million Dollar Secret as Peter Serafinowicz hosted scheming and backstabbing players hoping to win big at a Canadian lakeside estate. Studio Lambert has previously tried out another similar style of series at Channel 4 - 2023's Rise and Fall hosted by Greg James saw contestants divided into Rulers and Grafters who had to make their way from the servant basement of a luxury tower block to the penthouse suite. However, it was dropped after just one series. The Inheritance is expected to air on Channel 4 in autumn 2025.

Good Morning Britain star teams up with Liz Hurley for high-stakes reality show
Elizabeth Hurley is set to front a brand new exciting Channel 4 reality show titled The Inheritance Good Morning Britain's Robert Rinder is teaming up with the dazzling Elizabeth Hurley for a brand-new enigmatic reality series on Channel 4. Dubbed The Inheritance, the show has been teased as a mix of "part Knives Out, part Succession". Revealed earlier in the year, the programme will see 13 strangers called to an opulent country house where they must vie for a slice of a fortune bequeathed in the will of The Deceased. While the identity of The Deceased was initially shrouded in mystery, Channel 4 has now unveiled that Elizabeth will portray the elegant benefactor. However, clinching the cash won't be straightforward, with The Deceased having devised "a mischievous game to ensure only the best players can get their hands on her inheritance", the series outline suggests, reports Bristol Live. Elizabeth isn't going solo in her endeavours, as GMB's own Robert Rinder will feature as her Executor and trusted legal adviser. Rob commented: "This is a high-stakes strategy game served with a side of scheming and sabotage. "As The Executor I enforce the rules, keep the chaos in check – more or less – and make sure our players are deserving of every glittering penny left by our dearly departed deceased, played by the iconic Elizabeth Hurley." Elizabeth added: "It's a thrill to be part of this clever game, playing The Deceased; it all takes place on her huge estate in the English countryside and she dresses to the nines in every scene. Tune in this autumn to catch The Inheritance on Channel 4." Players must put their differences aside and work together to tick off a series of tasks set by the late aristocrat, using their skills, intelligence, and a healthy dose of cunning to succeed. However, in a twist worthy of The Traitors creators, contestants will be forced to fight it out for the cash, with just one person set to reap the rewards of their hard work. As the group navigates each assignment, they will need to decide who among them is most deserving of the cash. This is where things are likely to get heated, as players must convince their fellow contestants to hand over the dosh.
