PETALING JAYA: A group of concerned parents is looking to bring judicial review proceedings over a planned 46-storey building project next to The International School @ ParkCity in Desa ParkCity, Kuala Lumpur. A parent who asked to be known only as Lee said numerous pleas made to property developer Perdana ParkCity for the project to be reconsidered have fallen on deaf ears. 'We are planning to file for a judicial review and will ask that work be suspended pending the disposal of the case,' she told FMT. Lee claimed the project was initially planned for another location, but was relocated to an empty plot of land next to the school. An announcement made during a quarterly parents' meeting in January, caused an uproar, she said. Construction of ParkCity Tower, a 46-storey office building, is set to begin this year and scheduled for completion by 2029. Lee said construction has not yet begun, but a tall crane was brought in on April 28 to conduct groundwork near the school's field, causing panic among many children and parents. Advertisement She said the crane has since left the site, but parents remain uneasy after seeing videos on social media showing the crane operating in close proximity to the school. The parents' committee, which has been outspoken on the issue, has since been served with a legal notice from the developer warning them against speaking out against the project. A 42-year-old parent, who asked to be identified only as Chia, said she may withdraw her child from the school if safety issues persist. 'It is a major concern, especially seeing how close the crane was to the school field where children play and run freely,' she told FMT. Another parent and resident of Desa ParkCity who spoke to FMT on condition of anonymity also expressed concerns for the safety of her child. 'It has only been a year since the new primary school building was inaugurated. Now they tell us a massive tower will be built next to it,' she said. She said Desa ParkCity is a small township, and many students cycle to school, including her son. The presence of heavy construction machinery on the surrounding roads pose a real safety risk, she said. She said the project will also cause major traffic congestion, affecting the nearby hospital across the road, and called for a proper evaluation of the potential impact of the development on the community. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? This Mother's Day, Orchids unveils the mirrors of educational philosophy

The film showcases the balance between discipline and nurturing, highlighting how maternal instincts recognize curiosity as the foundation of learning. With beautiful cinematography, the film portrays heartfelt moments of motherhood, culminating in a powerful image of children running toward their mothers for support after moments of mischief. Celebrating the powerful role mothers play in shaping their children's lives, Orchids The International School launched a new film this Mother's Day titled "Weapons of Maa's Destruction: Behind Every Champion". The film is a tribute to mothers everywhere who navigate the delicate balance between discipline and nurturing their children's innate sense of wonder. This two minute tribute portrays the playful and heartfelt moments of motherhood—whether it's cleaning up after curious adventures, calming creative chaos, or guiding little hands and hearts with patience and care. Saurabh Jha, vice president marketing, Orchids The International School, said, "This Mother's Day, we wanted to honour the maternal instinct that knows when to set boundaries and when to break them down—an instinct that recognises curiosity not as defiance but as the foundation of all learning.' 'This mirrors our educational philosophy at Orchids, where we believe that nurturing a child's natural inquisitiveness in a supportive environment creates not just successful students but compassionate, innovative human beings,' Jha added. With beautiful cinematography and a moving musical score, the story is told through the eyes of children whose innocent adventures lead to household messes. As they hide in closets, under beds, and behind curtains—seeking refuge from expected scoldings—the camera lingers on their anxious faces, capturing the universal childhood moment of waiting for the consequences of curiosity. The film shows how these mothers, after discovering toppled plant pots or crayon drawings on freshly painted walls, pause just long enough to gather their thoughts before their faces soften. In a series of heartfelt scenes, we see them gently coax their children out of hiding—not with scolding, but with open arms and kind, understanding smiles. The film ends with a powerful image: the same children who once hid now run toward their mothers, seeking not just forgiveness but support in their adventures. It's a touching reminder of the trust that grows when discipline is balanced with understanding and encouragement. Watch the video here:
