Ex-Seattle police staffer seeking $3M, alleges affair with top cop was rumour
The former chief of staff for Seattle's top cop is seeking $3 million in pain and suffering, alleging that claims she was having sex with him were just rumours. Article content Article content According to Fox affiliate KCPQ, a legal rep for Jamie Tompkins sent a letter to the mayor's office on Nov. 26, 2024, 'to determine whether the city is interested in a negotiated resolution of this dispute.' The letter was obtained by the station following a recent public records request. Article content Tompkins and Diaz have publicly denied the rumour they were in a sexual relationship despite an Office of Inspector General report said they slept together and tried to keep it under wraps. Article content Article content Diaz came out as gay during a radio interview in June 2024 after he was accused of 'predatory behaviour' and 'grooming' by four female officers. At the time, Diaz was married with three children. Article content 'It's a story that it's struggled with, over the last four years, that I'm a gay Latino man,' a tearful Diaz told The Jason Rantz Show on KTTH. 'You know, it doesn't bother me. It's more of my concern for my kids because they're going to have to deal with a lot of the struggles that I might not have to deal with.' Article content Diaz said he realized he was gay later in life and accepted that fact in early 2020. Article content In October, Diaz sued Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell and other city employees for $10 million, alleging discrimination, harassment and retaliation while police chief. Article content Diaz and Tomkins were placed on paid administrative leave in late October. Article content On Nov. 6, Tomkins resigned from the police department. The mayor fired Diaz in December after the inspector general report found he had 'an intimate or romantic relationship with a former SPD employee (Tompkins)' and did not disclose that before hiring her as his chief of staff. $10,000 worth of stolen Lego bricks recovered via search warrant alongside stolen guns and drugs
This story was originally published on Pierce County sheriff's deputies used a search warrant to uncover approximately $10,000 worth of stolen Legos within a storage unit. Sasquatch Bricks toy store in University Place was victim to a robbery Feb. 13. The crime took place during off-hours, with the owner, Scott Nelson, learning about the crime through his security system. When Nelson called the police, they said they had already been notified. The suspect allegedly backed a U-haul to the front door of the store in order to steal $10,000 worth of Legos. 'Thankfully, our neighbor upstairs, when the thief backed up with a U-Haul, they ran into our store sign that was just hanging outside the front door, which promptly woke them up. And they were like, 'Well, this is a little unusual for just being about five o'clock in the morning,'' Nelson told 'The Jason Rantz Show' on KTTH. The case went cold until Thursday when investigators served a search warrant on a storage unit. Within the unit, the suspect, the stolen legos, stolen guns, and drugs were discovered, according to Pierce County Deputy Carly Cappetto. Nelson acknowledged that he was, in some ways, lucky that this was the first time his store had been broken into. He chalked up this incident to the recent surge in retail theft plaguing the region. 'I don't know if it's political or not, but when these thieves or retail theft rings know that there's not going to be a whole lot of consequences involved with it, you know, they'll continue to do it,' he said. He was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property.
