Netflix fans only just discovering 'most underrated' film that has left them 'traumatised'
An 'underrated' thriller on Netflix has found a new lease of life 30 years since its initial release Movie fans are just now discovering a seriously intense thriller on Netflix that has left them 'traumatised'. Originally released back in 1995, psychological thriller Copycat, stars Sigourney Weaver as Dr Helen Hudson, a criminal psychologist who is struggling with agoraphobia. The renowned expert became a recluse after a traumatic attack that saw her nearly get murdered by killer Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick Jr). Years later, Helen is recruited by San Francisco police officer Detective M.J. Monahan (Holly Hunter) to try and hunt down a serial killer replicating the methods of infamous murderers. Although she fears the outside world, Helen uses her knowledge and expertise to try and catch the person behind the copycat killings while working with M.J. The cast of the film - which developed a cult following in the decades since its release -also includes stars like Dermot Mulroney, William McNamara and Will Patton. As well as Copycat doing pretty well at the box office - grossing $79 million from a $27 million budget - the critical response was positive too. On Rotten Tomatoes, it was given a 76% rating. Copycat was released on UK's Netflix last month - and it's fair to say the film has found a new lease of life 30 years since its initial release. On Facebook, Netflix uploaded the opening scene of Copycat in which Helen is attacked by Daryll in a public toilet. Reacting to a 'traumatising' clip, one person said: 'Man! This scene made me afraid to use public bathrooms. I mean, even to this day I'm still on high alert at rest stops.' Someone else added: 'I remember seeing this in theaters. I was freaked out in public restrooms for months!' A third chimed in: 'This scene TRAUMATISED me when I saw it as a teenager, for years and years. I'd always be looking up when using the public bathroom to make sure it didn't happen to me.' Meanwhile, others praised the film as a whole, with someone declaring: 'I really liked this, one of the most underrated movies out there.' Another agreed: 'Great movie, it holds up and I agree no one really talks about it.' It wasn't just the audience that Harry Connick Jr creeped out thanks to his portrayal of killer Daryll Lee Cullum. In 2024, he revealed that Sigourney Weaver was so freaked out by his performance that 'she wouldn't talk to him' on set. 'Every time I came around, she went the other way,. She was like, 'I don't want to be around that guy!'' he told SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham.

Sarah Jessica Parker issues Hocus Pocus 3 update
Sarah Jessica Parker has been "having some conversations" about Hocus Pocus 3. The movie still appears to be in the works, despite a lack of updates in the past year, but the 60-year-old star admitted she and the cast would "like to do it". Speaking on Watch What Happens Live!, she said: "No more developments other than we would like to do it. "We've been having some conversations." In the 1993 original, Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy appeared as the Sanderson sisters, a trio of witches who were resurrected on a Halloween night. A year ago, Midler - who reprised her role as witch Winifred 'Winnie' Sanderson in the successful fantasy comedy sequel in 2022 - urged Disney to hurry up with Hocus Pocus 3 while the cast are "still breathing". Speaking on Busy Philipps' QVC+ talk show Busy This Week, she said last July: "I haven't seen the script, but, I've heard rumblings. "I think if they're gonna, they oughta, because time is not just marching, time is barrel-assing to the finish line. "Get us while we're still breathing, I mean, God!" Midler also admitted on the show that she initially thought the 1993 original movie was a "dud", until it later became a "cult classic". In June 2024, the star revealed talks had taken place regarding a third film in the franchise. She told SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show: "Now, they're kind of talking about a third, very gingerly and very gently. "They are. They're talking about a third. The second one was a huge success." Midler also insisted her Hocus Pocus alter-ego is "probably the least like me of any character" that she has played during an acting career that has spanned more than half a century. The Stepford Wives star said: "She is the closest thing I will ever get to Shakespeare. She's from the era, from the time of Shakespeare. "She really does put it on, and yet she has all the great things you love in a great villain. She's vicious, she's hilarious, she's ridiculous-looking, and she doesn't know any of that. It goes completely over her head."

‘Underrated' 90s thriller compared to Criminal Minds is coming to Netflix
A 90s thriller that was branded 'utterly unmissable' is finally being added to Netflix in just a few days. Copycat was released in October 1995, and followed agoraphobic criminal psychologist Dr Helen Hudson who offers to help police officers investigate a string of murders inspired by notorious serial killers. However, things take a turn when she realizes that the murderer is stalking her, basing his killings on a lecture she once gave. Sigourney Weaver led an all-star cast as Dr Helen, alongside Dermot Mulroney, Harry Connick Jr and Holly Hunter, with Jon Amiel serving as director. Nearly 30 years on from the premiere, the psychological flick is now coming to Netflix on Sunday, June 15, perfect for the next movie night. Copycat currently commands an impressive critics Rotten Tomatoes score of 76%, compared to a slightly less ranking of 64% from the audience. Fans have been raving about the film on the platform, as Gabe R penned: 'Copycat's extremely intelligent twists and plot keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the amazing cast and score makes the movie even better.' 'If you like Criminal Minds you will love this movie,' an anonymous reviewer insisted. Ulli M penned: 'An underrated 90's thriller, great cast and score. As Alan P added: 'Utterly unmissable serial killer thriller with two of the finest actresses ever.. whilst the subject might not be for everyone, the way it's told is supremely entertaining and the end result is nothing short of magnificent.' Sigourney won praise for her efforts as a murder expert who became agoraphobic after an attack, but overcame her battles to help track down a gruesome serial killer. However, she previously shed light on how filming such a tough role took a huge toll on her life, claiming that she was 'often a basket case' during production. Last year, Harry – who starred as the vile murderer – unpacked his time on set and shared that the actress actually avoided him on set. 'Sigourney Weaver, she's so unbelievable. She wouldn't talk to me,' he recalled during an appearance on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham. More Trending 'I didn't meet her till the premiere. She would not— every time I came around, she went the other way. She was like, 'I don't want to be around that guy!' 'I remembered what it was like to be in high school.' Copycat will be available to stream on Netflix from June 15. Got a story?
