It's set to be a sombre episode of WWE Friday Night Smackdown this week, after the news that WWE Hall of Famer and polarizing pop culture icon Hulk Hogan died at the age of 71 from a cardiac arrest. The '80s superstar, real name Terry Bollea, was 'the' household name when it came to discussing wrestling with those who weren't familiar with the artform, with his name uttered in the same breaths as Giant Haystacks, Kendo Nagasaki or Big Daddy. Hogan transformed the WWE, under the guidance of Vincent K. McMahon, into a worldwide phenomena with his influence and legacy interwoven not just in wrestling culture, but the overarching pop culture fabric. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad However, as mentioned, he later would become a polarizing figure; from numerous stories over the decades about his backstage politics, his hesitance to unionize wrestling in the '80s and creative control in WCW leading to some very last-ditch booking decisions, through to his mainstream controversies including racist remarks while undertaking a 'tryst' with his best friend's wife and recent support of Donald J. Trump. Something that wrestling fans were very adamant to let him know they were not happy with. Alongside the matches that have been announced so far this evening, we would envision that a portion of tonight's WWE Smackdown will be dedicated to Hulk Hogan; for better or for worse, he did make wrestling what it is today - if we were to separate the character from the man himself. WWE Friday Night Smackdown preview - July 25 Jelly Roll and Logan Paul come face to face ahead of their tag team encounter at SummerSlam 2025 on this evening's episode of WWE Smackdown. | WWE Randy Orton & Jelly Roll Confront Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul Tensions are at an all-time high between these four men, and this week they will come face-to-face. With their SummerSlam tag team match looming, the confrontation between "The Viper" Randy Orton and music sensation Jelly Roll, and their formidable opponents Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul, is sure to be explosive. Given their previous physical altercations, expect sparks to fly and potentially another brawl as they look to gain the upper hand before their major Premium Live Event clash. They are set to challenge the current WWE Tag Team Champions, Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis of The Wyatt Sicks. Can Andrade and Rey Fenix pull off the upset and capture the titles, or will The Wyatt Sicks continue their dominant reign? All eyes will be on this pivotal championship encounter. Alexa Bliss v Roxanne Perez In singles competition, Alexa Bliss will go head-to-head with Roxanne Perez. Both women are fierce competitors, and this match promises to be an exciting showcase of their talents. With the Women's division constantly evolving, every victory counts, and both Superstars will be looking to make a statement ahead of their Women's Tag Team Championship match at SummerSlam next week. Cody Rhodes to Appear "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes is confirmed to make an appearance on SmackDown this week. This comes after last week's dramatic segment involving John Cena, where Rhodes took out the Cenation Leader. The WWE Universe will be eager to hear from Cody and see if there are any further developments following the intense build-up to their SummerSlam encounter. CM Punk Accuses Vince McMahon For Sabotaging His WWE Return, Years Before Comeback At Survivor Series 2023
CM Punk has revealed that Vince McMahon, the former chairman of the WWE, sabotaged his return to the company, years before he made a momentous came back at Survivor Series 2023. Punk, who will be challenging Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Summerslam in New Jersey next month, recalled that he had a secret meeting with McMahon and Triple H, the current chief operating officer of the WWE around 2018 or 2019, to discuss a potential WWE return. Punk went on to add that they had an "handshake agreement" for the same and how it didn't work out, also accusing McMahon on "ghosting" him. The former WWE champion also revealed that McMahon was personally calling him to cut out the middleman, having initially communicated with him through his agents. "We had a meeting and we had a handshake agreement and then he ghosted me. So, that's why it didn't happen. Unbelievable," Punk was quoted as saying by Fightful. Punk also revealed how the meeting help him and Triple H bury the hatchet over their ever-so-volatile relatioship over the years. "That would have been probably the first time that me and Triple H probably started chipping it away at any problems or drama that we had in the past," he said. "That was the first instance." Punk had left WWE after Royal Rumble 2014 due to a fallout with the management, accusing them of ignoring his serious health issues. His departure from WWE led to a bitter rift that lasted for years, before both the parties made up to give his return a green light in 2023. He made his return to the WWE, appearing after the mainevent Men's WarGames match in his hometown Chicago. Punk appeared post-match after Cody Rhodes, Seth "Freakin" Rollins, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and Randy Orton defeated The Judgment Day (Damian Priest, Finn Balor, "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio, and JD McDonagh) and Drew McIntyre. However, this led to a strong reaction from Rollins, who didn't seem happy with Punk coming back to the WWE, paving the way for an ongoing storyline.

WWE Raw gets 'special' early UK start time tonight on Netflix
There's been another schedule change for WWE fans to keep an eye out for on Netflix. After Friday's episode of SmackDown – which was marred by technical issues for over 30 minutes early in the broadcast – started at 6pm, tonight's episode of Monday Night Raw will also have a 'special start time'. Whereas the blue brand's earlier start was down to the company being in Saudi Arabia for Night of Champions, tonight's is a different situation. There's plenty on tap with World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER set to appear a couple of weeks before his match against Goldberg at Saturday Night's Main Event. WWE is also pushing on to the upcoming all-women's Evolution premium live event, with plenty going on later tonight. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Tonight, WWE Raw starts at 11pm for fans in the UK. It's not a huge departure from the typical weekly start time of 1am, but it does mean viewers tuning in live on Netflix could be in bed asleep by 1:30am, instead of half an hour into the show. Rhea Ripley kicks off the show Penta & Sami Zayn vs. Bronson Reed & Bron Breakker WWE World Tag Team Titles : The New Day (c) vs. The Judgment Day : The New Day (c) vs. The Judgment Day Sheamus vs. Rusev World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER appears Nick Aldis and Adam Pearce make WWE Evolution announcement Whereas recent changes like the Saudi shows and WWE's European dates earlier this year were down to time zones, this is a different situation. Instead, tonight's Netflix broadcast kicks off two hours early because WWE is actually taping both tonight's Raw, and this Friday's episode of SmackDown, on the same night. Friday's episode is on the 4th of July, so WWE has made the decision to pre-tape the show – the first of the return to the two-hour format – and give the talent some time off with their loved ones. Not surprisingly, the WWE Raw roster has been stacked with two superstars and champions since making the worldwide jump to Netflix in January. GUNTHER is at the top of the division as World Heavyweight Champion, while Iyo Sky is currently the Women's World Champion. The men's and women's Intercontinental Championships are held by Dominik Mysterio and Becky Lynch respectively, while The New Day legends Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods are World Tag Team Champions. More Trending On the men's side of the Raw roster, former world champ CM Punk, Sami Zayn, Penta, Mr. Money In The Bank Seth Rollins and the latter's crew Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed lead the way, as well as the likes of Finn Balor, Jey Uso Logan Paul, AJ Styles, Karrion Kross, Rusev and Sheamus. Meanwhile, the women's roster is stacked with Kairi Sane, Bayley, Asuka, Lyra Valkyria, Raquel Rodriguez, Rhea Ripley, Stephanie Vaquer and Rhea Ripley. Going into Evolution, the women's roster was rocked recently by a devastating injury to Liv Morgan, who required surgery on a dislocated shoulder. Huge 'WWE Night of Champions 2025' Match Postponed Due to Injury
Huge 'WWE Night of Champions 2025' Match Postponed Due to Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports. WWE has revealed that a big match previously scheduled for "Night of Champions 2025" is now off the card. Advertisement The initial plan was for Dominik Mysterio to defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against AJ Styles in Riyadh on Saturday. During Monday's episode of "Raw," Adam Pearce informed Styles that Mysterio isn't medically cleared for the match. Styles was promised a title shot once Mysterio is ready to return to action. Mysterio hasn't competed since the June 9 episode of "Monday Night Raw." He lost a fatal four-way King of the Ring match featuring Sami Zayn, who ended up winning the match, Bron Breakker, and Penta. Mysterio remains involved in backstage segments on "Raw." He even appeared on TV during Monday's episode of the red brand. It would seem that Mysterio's injury isn't serious enough for WWE to strip him of the IC title. While Liv Morgan won't be featured on "Raw" for the foreseeable future, Mysterio figures to be an important part of the red brand as his storyline girlfriend recovers from an injury of her own. Advertisement WWE is in the midst of a storyline where Mysterio's faction, The Judgment Day, is on the verge of imploding. Balor has seemingly been tearing the group apart ever since Mysterio pinned him at "WrestleMania 41." Balor has introduced Roxanne Perez to the group, which has created tension. Morgan's tag team partner, Raquel Rodriguez, hasn't taken too kindly to Perez, and Mysterio has been uncomfortable with "The Prodigy's" advances. Time will tell how long it'll take before Mysterio is back in the ring. Related: 'WWE Raw' Results: Who Advances to King and Queen of the Ring Finals at 'Night of Champions 2025?'
