Shelved Larry David Doc Could Still Potentially Be Released, Says Director Larry Charles — Here's How
HBO's pulled documentary The Larry David Story just might see the light of day, says the Seinfeld creator's longtime collaborator Larry Charles. But morbidly enough, it may have to wait until one of the men dies. On SiriusXM's The Julia Cunningham Show Monday, Charles said that his shelved documentary with David could potentially be released on YouTube down the road. 'I hadn't [thought of that] until this moment, but that's an interesting way of looking at it. You know, I do have a copy of it,' he said. 'As long as I don't make money with it, nobody seems to really care,' Charles said. 'That might be the case with the Larry David documentary also. I'm going to explore that as soon as we get off the air here.' When Cunningham suggested that maybe Charles hit 'upload' the day David dies (or include its release in his will, in case he dies first), he replied, 'Anything is possible, as we know.' The documentary was originally scheduled for release on March 1, 2022. Just one day before, HBO tweeted that the film was being postponed. 'The Larry David Story on @HBOMax is being postponed,' HBO reps wrote. 'Instead, Larry has decided he wants to do it in front of an audience. Stay tuned for more info.' No other comments were made at that time. Charles said that he was told that David's agent threatened HBO, saying they wouldn't get another season of Curb Your Enthusiasm if the doc came out. In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, he elaborated on why he thinks David had the documentary pulled. First, he alleges that David 'didn't like how he looked or sounded.' The production — which was filmed simply as a conversation between the men, with David sitting on a couch — featured natural lighting sans makeup, and that may have ultimately unsettled the comedian. 'We all have our vanity and our ego,' said Charles. The director believes the other issue was that David was far more vulnerable than funny in the finished product. 'He cried. We talked about death and spirituality. We talked about his family,' Charles recalled. Though Charles thought their chat was 'revelatory,' he says that as the release date got closer, David, who was initially pleased with the project, grew more 'troubled' by the thought of its public consumption. Ian Somerhalder feels uncomfortable watching his wife, Nikki Reed's film, 'Thirteen'
Ian Somerhalder , ' The Vampire Diaries ' actor, humorously revealed that he feels uncomfortable watching his wife's controversial film, 'Thirteen,' which is about underage substance and sexual abuse. While Nikki Reed did become famous, Ian can't seem to accept the semi-autobiographical film that she wrote and starred in. 'As a dad now, I watch it and I go, I throw up in my mouth a little bit. But it's incredible (that Nikki began her career) at 13,' Ian joked during a Thursday, April 24, interview on The Julia Cunningham Show. Nikki Reed's childhood Previously, Reed had mentioned that Ian avoids the rewatch of the film, with or without their two children - a daughter, 7, and a son, 1. 'I really embraced the fact that I grew [and] I lived on fast food and diet sodas, and I smoked cigarettes and I have the most wonderful mom who raised two kids in Los Angeles, making $16,000 a year on her own,' she said according to US Weekly. Furthermore, the ' Twilight ' actress expressed that she honours her journey arc, transforming her life from when she was young to now. 'I think it speaks volumes. … All of these were passion areas of mine that I pursued on my own, which, for anyone listening, curiosity is the best thing you can have. You keep that as a secret weapon in your pocket because as long as you remain curious and courageous, the transformation's incredible,' Nikki added. A life away from Hollywood The duo have moved to Southern California in the rural areas of a farm away from the chaotic city of Hollywood after getting married. In 2023, Ian shared his gratitude for living a peaceful, secluded life, stating, 'It's unbelievable when you see these amazing creature life forms. And how they all live on the farm together is really special,' during an interview with E! News. While he did mention that life can be tiring, a walk with dogs and family makes all of it worth it.
